Duds: None of the game's were talking about need space to jump about. Thats why they were listed.

They can all be controlled entirely with a Joypad? You can't use the remote lying down and I can't sit cross legged on a bed forever.

And if Excite truck's "React 3 days after you do things" controls is the best it'll get then it's probably not worth the effort.

Endless Ocean is the perfect laying down on a bed and play game.

Indeed, shame it's a tech demo on the least techy format. I might still pick it up cheap but I suspect I'd be thinking "You know, this really would be so much better in HD" the entire time.

You are dead to me. In my heart.
I guess for Duds the problem is less moving arms around (you can do that lying down) but point at the screen, as you need to be sat with the screen directly in front of you, rather than at a strange angle. Find that a tad annoying myself as I often sit on the bed playing games. Of course, you could always buy a stool and put it on top of the XBox (with the feet either side natch).
Bit harsh to suggest that you need a massive room or anything and it's Nintendo's fault, more that your room is ridiculously tiny. Mario Kart should be playable though? The wheel thingy just detects movement and doesn't use the pointing thingy, no? So it doesn't matter where you hold it in relation to the TV?

No no, that doesn't work either :)

dudley, which tech is it supposed to be demoing then?
it isn't really a wiimote demo game (there were some prequels on the ps2)
it'isn't a flashy graphics game.
it just an invite to explore game.. loved every minute of just discovering some ruined or play with some fishes without any pressure while listening to a bit corny new age music track..

but amnyway, wii fit... we really felt we had done something and had both fun. .this could really be a family game for us.. (did get Celine to play mario kart, she loved winning luigi circuit against the computer, but then she lost interest soon)
The point being that the gamplay is largely fixed, it's an explore em up.

And if the point is discovering stuff, the "Stuff" has to be as pretty as possible.

So they've whacked it on the least pretty machine. That's all.
personally i think it might look less nice in HD which often makes things too clear, which wouldn't feel right under water.. but anyway, it's a nice game, but if you approach it as a tech demo you might not enjoy it that much i guess (and it's cheap anyway)
Indeed, which is the one thing that'll probably make me pick it up later.

It looks great on HD.

Dudley how long are your arms?
Image ?
How would you know, the Wii doesn't support HD?
Does the Wii support 720p?
myoptika wrote:

480p only me thinks (i don't have a HDTV so I'm not certain).

Also: On way now to "collect from store"!
Yeah, sorry Dudley. I meant to say it looks great at 480 output on my HD telly.

I know the Wii isn't HD and I know you know, I was being lazy and now you've made me type all this!

;)
So... Anyone got Wiifit, then?
I've got it!

Seems rather good so far. But only played it when drunk, so can't really say that much.
If they bought out Queefit, that'd interest me.

And that's why we stay away from you after you've had chilli.
Is someone going to convince me to buy one of these? I don't have a wii, is there a bundle price?

Ace.

I've been thinking that it might tip me towards getting a Wii as the missus seems dead keen on it too. No significantly cheap bundles that I've been able to spot and I reckon it will be a while before there are given the way they are selling.
Yeah, it would mainly be for the gf in theory. I'm not sure the other wii games really appeal to me to be honest.
I bought a DS Lite and Mario kart, and then one of those supercards so I could play every game ever.. and then didn't.

So I'm hoping to be enthused. I have a Playstation 1 on which I mostly play Tempest X but haven't even switched that on for a while.

I'm also tempted to try a 360 for the network gaming and car racing fun, but buying both of them might be overkill :S
So I spent an hour "working out" and to be honest I think it will be really hit and miss with people, but I love it.

If your a 20 something, who never needed to work out, but then has got rather unfit the last 4 or 5 years and realised you should do something about it, then it's a brilliant first step to build up your confidence before going to the gym and what not. But if you already go to the gym then it's probably not for you.

I'm in the 'overweight' band (there is Underweight, Ideal, Overweight and Obese) and I've set an aim to sort that out it's a great motivation tool rather than the actual thing that will get you healthy I think.

Interestingly, my lady's BMI was 'Ideal' but yet it still suggested she should try to lower her BMI down to 22 from 23.

It's not a big Joule burner but it's yoga stuff is excellent, and the balance point really helps you focus and improve. Coming up to my thesis and endless hours huddled in front of my laptop I'm thinking a bunch of Yoga poses to stretch myself will be brilliant. That and it's a lot more fun than just copying out of a book, and you get a lot more feedback too.

That and the graphing of the BMI with time will really help keep me on focus. But of course it comes down to whether it will still hold my attention over the following months - and I think that comes down to what kind of person you are.

Good stuff.

If you're just a bit jaded with gaming in general then I reckon the 360 will be more likely to renew your enthusiasm, all things considered it's easily the best console I've ever had.
Does it weigh you?

Yes, and it finds you wanting.
Apparently Zavvi had WiiFit display models you could try out. Surely that's like some kind of athlete's foot distribution system?
I had a go on my brothers wii fit earlier today, and proceeded to annoy him by utterly smashing his highscores withing 2 goes of each game I had unlocked. With a mii that looked like David Baddiel.

Quite fun. And it told me that I needed to increase my BMI by a fair amount. And that I was 6 years younger than I actually am.

this is very true..my bmi was in the ideal range too, but i want you to get to 22..
Seems sold-out everywhere. Had wondered if, at 70 quid, it would be the Wii's Powerglove (i.e. a pathetic flop), but doesn't look like that so far, unless say the initial stock was so limited to guarantee selling out immediately.
£70 is no more than games that have needed hardware (Guitar Hero for instance) so nah it's not too expensive.

A-ha, good point. Yes, Guitar Hero did rather well and is pricey*. And less 'useful' than WiiFit, arguably - WiiFit can possibly make you live longer, whilst Guitar Hero is bugger-all use teaching real guitar playing.

* though it seems to have been discounted to £50 when my girlfriend bought GHIII before Christmas.

Yes, but nobody dreams of being a globetrotting yoga superstar, so bollocks to Wii Fit.
Guitar Hero was £60, wasn't it?
But your point still stands. And I can't find WiiFit anywhere.

I did mean the 360 version, the PS2 might have been £60.
We got one from Sainsburys on Saturday. It's fun, and encouraging me to give a proper yoga or pilates lesson a try.

I'm not sure if I'd personally class it as a game despite some of the gaming elements (beat your high score, it is fun -or at least so far- and HNNNGH unlocking things). But one thing is for sue, I do like it and am going to try hard to stick with it. My wife likes it a lot too.
My Mrs looks interested in this, so I expect to pick one up in the future.
Let me preface this in saying that I am averse to exercise in it's many and varied forms. I am a distinct salad dodger.

WiiFit is ace! Exercising and having fun. I actually enjoyed jogging on the spot in my front room. Fantastic stuff.
We had some friends over and gave it a try, straight into 'trial' mode so there was no messing about with the BMI and all that.

It went down very, very well. Ski slalom, ski jumping and hula-hoop seemed to be the favourites. Good fun trying to get a better score than the person before, bit of friendly competition.
Got it and love it, hope I keep it up every day. :)
Yes! Finally 3 starts on ski jumping in WiiFit U. And that on the day we traditionally watch ski jumping in Garmisch Partenkirchen.
