Ashes Cricket 2009 - THE GAME

We'll see what happens when the game comes out.
There's achievements for completing the tutorials, so we'll see then!

Also, can you do a series online with someone? ie: do a test a night or something, save it and come back to it?
You could do in BLIC07, and as this game is built around the Ashes series, I'd bloody well hope so.

You should be able to save at the beginning of every over.

I was looking for such information on the Codies forums last night (also, number of online players) but found no such infos.
I think the number of online players is fixed at 2. So no 2v2, sadly.
What I actually meant was that if they bowl every ball at top pace, it loses its shock value to an extent... bowling a few balls just 2 or 3 mph slower than top speed means your really fast deliveries seem even faster and thus more effective.

Of course I am talking primarily about real life cricket here, in video game cricket this probably isn't relevant at all. But I'm determined to try to steer this thread back off talk of games which haven't even been released yet and back towards England's surge to Ashes greatness!
I suppose we could do a T20 torny or something if enough people get it and enjoy it.
But I wouldnt mind just bowling out riles over and over again :D

I'm sure we'll have plenty to talk about tomorrow when the real cricket actually starts again.
4 player online, and you can play 2 player co-op which could be fun. According to wiki anyway.

Well that was according to one of the game blokes on a youtube clip.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Yeah, I read back the wiki article. I just refuse to countenance the suggestion that they would build in 4 player local and not online.
It'll still be fun. But if you were doing 2v2 then 2 people would not be doing anything for half the game, apart from banter really. I can see the not putting it in on the online.

I assumed you'd just choose a batsman and a bowler each.

Or maybe one person bats, one bowls, and the other two could be Bumble and Beefy.

On the youtube clip I just watched the offline was 2 bat, 2 bowl.

In BLIC07 the second bowler is the fielder in the overs he isn't bowling.
Well, tried the demo.

Thoughts:

1) This game is more scary than such things as Dead Space, Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Those player models are terrifying
2) A score of 1/5 isn't bad for my first Batting attempt, is it?
3) A score of 5/1 isn't bad for my first Bowling attempt, is it?
4) What the hell am I supposed to do?

Be better than Australia
myp, I think you are right about the yellower the reticle is the better the bowl - as I've managed to restrict them to 3 per over bowling in that sort of line and length
Just downloaded the demo of the XBox game. I batted first on Easy and scored 39/3. Cook had a good innings of 22 off 10.

Time for a bowl...

32-1! Hurrah, I am victorious!

:)

Ive managed 63/2 on easy.

Ive tried to get a 50 with one player a few times most Ive managed is 37 so far, siddle is easy, just run down the wicket and hit him straight for 6
Interesting hands on from Eurogamer...roll on Friday.
I want ashes 09 now!

I just got 77/0 on the demo, on easy.
75 off 17 balls for strauss with a strike rate of 441.18! :D
Mine is supposed to be being despatched tomorrow to arrive for Friday. :)
I think I'll go to the shop and buy it on friday, I've got nothing else better to do.

My live runs out on saturday aswell :(

I dont know whether to use the free month I got when my xbox died now, or when I move and get better internets.

Are many of us getting this?
I think some bezzie games would be good fun, if only T20 or ODI's as to not spend days playing a series
As long as we can save the games mid session, I can't see why a Test match isn't feasible.
But will you be able to have like 2 or 3 test matches on the go at the same time, or once you start a test match, you can save it, but then can't play other online matches until the test match is finished? Or something
What's the price on this again? If I buy it I refuse to slog though, I will only ever bat sensibly and accumulate with caution.

30-40 at all good retailers and online stores
I restricted the aussies to 7/1 (with a first ball duck for the opener) and racked up the 8 required runs in 3 balls. I WANT FULL GAME NOW KTHNXBYE

Worryingly, I don't think I've taken a wicket yet. Wait, yes I have. I've taken a couple of catches. I haven't bowled anyone out yet.

Kid: I pre-ordered it from Amazon for £32, but I think ShopTo.net were doing it for £28.
Run outs galore on easy. It's my inviting bowling and restrictive feilding
I'm definitely getting this. Myp, Riles, Nikachu, my brother, 41b1n0k1d... possibly some others.

Sounds like a plan.

:D
Once you get the hang of the bowling it's pretty easy to restict the runs, but getting wickets you've got to give them balls they'll play at.
I really want this!

I dont think I've hit the wicket with the ball either yet. Few catches, few run outs, one or 2 lbw's, but no wickets.
The run outs are easier to get when you've set a big total for them to chase as they got for more runs than they should.
We could even have a T20 World Cup at this rate. We'd have to draw lots to see who gets to be each team. Oh, slight drawback would be the fact that each match would take about four hours.

Since I would fully expect to only have one match, that's not really an issue :D
I can understand you being put off by cricket games. I expect you're still sore from that time I beat you at Brian Lara on the PS1.
sore? Sounds like harsh tactics

I highly doubt that ever happened.

Wow, you really have scrubbed that from your memory. It was in 2003 and I think it was the same weekend we watched Bournemouth vs Hartlepool on Sky. it was a 10 over game and you knocked me over for about 58 - I managed to defend it!

I can't believe you can't remember that. Your housemate was playing some kind of motorbike game in his room.

I remember all that. I just thought it was a PS2 we were playing it on.
I scored 47/1 on normal last night and restricted the Aussies to ten without loss.

I am well ready for friday night. I don't think the wife is.

What sort of scores is she posting?

Yes, but it was the PS1 game.
Rather glad I didn't pre-order this now, as we have a post strike from tomorrow until Tuesday.

Fuck. Nationwide as well. :'(
Cock it, I've used Amazon Prime Next Day. Any idea who they'll use?

HAHAHA, I'm a twat. I Googled them and found a nationwide strike, but it was from 2007. This one is London only, thankfully.

-edit- Although, just as I say that...

Rather glad I didn't preorder this now as Doobs and Will have invited us out for dinner. The inconsiderate considerate cunts.
