My Hooowaaaway P20 Pro decided to change my keyboard from GBoard to SmartKey, changed some sound effects for things, and generally make a few little tweaks and changes I had no interest or desire to see happen - which is kind of how Android has been for a while now.

They also made the 'switch apps' bit worse and the 'select text' bit way better.
Oddly, my phone has a notch and the clock stayed where it is.
The Switch apps button bit is very, very similar to how the Windows phone used to switch apps.

The recent update seems to have broken the voice input. It won't work anymore while the screen is locked. That's annoying.

I've noticed that they've taken the perfectly fine and usable volume controls which could be controlled with one button press and now hidden them behind a menu which requires two buttons presses in an unintuitive portion of the screen... But you know, progress and all that. I'm sure it makes sense to someone.

Me and Mrs Hearthly had a meeting at school today to discuss how Jnr's getting on and to discuss with the IOM's best autism expert how we can get her through the next two and a half years and hopefully get GCSEs in English and Maths at least. The teachers and the assistants are the most wonderful people, and the lady who's really deep into ASD is hard to get hold of for a meeting but we managed to get all five of us together for an hour to discuss the path forward - and we were very grateful to be able to attend this meeting.
So what do you do in such a scenario? Make sure your phone isn't going to start piping up about anything when you don't want it to.
And yeah, all of a sudden you get a load of new sliders and icons and choices where before a single action made your phone shut the fuck up. And yes I know the answer will be 'Ahhh but you can still do that exact same thing but in a slightly different way! Stupid tech heathen!'
I do sometimes wonder if the folks who foist this stuff on us via mandatory updates have any earthly idea how fucking annoying it is.

They'll have tested the shit out of that no doubt because it's a very obvious concern but I'm with you in being very sceptical that over time it won't ever be an issue. Not that I'm interested in it anyway but I'd only ever pick it up if the warranty was very robust around that specific issue.

I suspect they will invent the brand new idea of a slip case and it'll cost 99 quid.
I had a really nice slip case for an iphone, with a little tab to pull on so the phone would pop out a little. It was my favourite ever case.
Will these foldy phones need to be re-folded to take a call, if someone rings while it's open? It'd look daft holding a tablet sized device up to the ear, or using an awkward hold like the N-Gage.
