*spurts tea from nose* There’s no way that Prince Ali is the iconic song everyone knows from Aladdin. Of course it’s a Whole New World! I’ve no idea why you’d think otherwise.

Really? If I think of the film I always think of Prince Ali and ‘Never Had A Friend Like Me.’ The other song is OK, but I think it’s a bit wishy washy.
Whole New World is proper cheese.

Thanks for clarifying your opinion on this, Mali. Sorry, Sat. Looks like you are most definitely wrong on this one.

He absolutely is.
I'm just going to check outside to see if the other Horsemen have arrived.

Isn’t it you who likes the awful love song from the Muppets Christmas Carol, though?
The one they never show anymore! Micheal Caine's greatest acting moment and it gets cut out.

Christ, even as a kid I wanted to rip my ears off during that song. Fuck that song

Ok, I distrust your opinion on this slightly less, then.

Whoever it is who likes that song, your opinion is mud.

Probably Trooper.
I just watched the song on youtube, still as great as ever.
A whole new world was released as the single for the movie, sung by singers rather than the actors in the film so yeah... Surely that's the song that everyone thinks of?

Well, not everyone, as I don’t, but it seems most others here do. It just seems bland to me. I do love Robin Williams so much, though. I was thinking about him this morning, so I’m perhaps biased.

Bland is popular
Trailer for Doctor Sleep (follow up to The Shining)

We went away for a few days in crap weather so I also saw Aladdin
I was super reluctant because I don't understand why in the world they are making all these live action versions of super animations so went into it extremely skeptical and thought it wasn't too bad because they left most of it reasonably close to the original. Hate Jasmin's new song, ugh. Never liked whole new world in the first place, prince ali, arabian nights and the thief song where they are being chased are the bestest
I thought all of the film lacked fun/snark and when we got home on tuesday we watched the animation on dvd

unfortunately for me the weather was tryly crappy so I was also forced to watch Detective pikachu, expected it to be super crap and it mostly was but not as poor as my expectations
and the secret life of pets which was also meh, but had funny bits in. The "story" made no sense.

She is entirely correct.

She didn't say A Whole New World wasn't the iconic one, though.
But, but - Rocketman is out! You need to know it is a musical, in case that puts you off. The ending is a bit meh, and I'm not sure they actually bang out any of the songs in full. But it's a magical ride.

PROTIP - Watch with subtitles, I watch everything with subtitles and have done for years.

We do now as well - partly because both Ruth and Second Born seem to have some mild hearing issues and it's much better having subtitles than having either of them say "what did he just say" about 30 times through a film. There's also, to be fair, the modern mumble acting technique causing issues as well.

My parents used to have the Ceefax subtitles on for Rab C Nesbitt, but for other reasons, obviously. I always found the show perfectly understandable.
As Amazon have managed to sting me AGAIN for a trial of Prime (bastards), I'm now watching Robo Vampire. It's good, but there's no Ninja Master Gordan yet.

My mother wanted an iPad case. I had to order the iPad case. So she could use the iPad case. Now she has an iPad case and I have 30 days of watching trash.

Speaking of which, this is on Amazon prime:

That is delightful. It rocks on the side of justice.
Also added to Amazon this week..

Alien Predator
I watched the new Aladdin yesterday and thought it was great.
Detective Pikachu isn’t a bad film but it is shit. It isn’t funny (apart from one scene where Pikachu is giving a foot rub) and the script just blows a big fat hairy dick. I expected as much from the trailer and this didn’t disappoint.

Yay, another Halloween is being made. Double yay, Jamie Lee Curtis is in it :luv:
The other night as I was flicking through the channel guide I noticed John Wick 2 was on telly and had already been on for a while so I thought I'd watch what was left just to enjoy the shooty bang bang action, missing the beginning didn't really matter as I'd seen it before.

BUT! in a surprise twist it turns out I hadn't actually seen John Wick 2 after all, as I didn't have any recollection of the amazing scenes before me - who was the deaf chick with the sharp haircut? what was Morpheus doing on a rooftop with some pigeons? Luckily I was able to piece the plot together fairly quickly.

Out of fear I'd missed some important minor detail, later in the week i watched from the start on Netflix. Imagine the DOUBLE TWIST SURPRISE when I fully remembered the beginning bits where John takes back his beloved car and then proceeds to ram it into people and things. Turn out I had seen the beginning before... something must have happened that made me miss the middle and end on that first time of viewing. Maybe it was kids waking up or maybe I fell asleep but to wrap up this exciting tale, it was certainly an odd way to have watched John Wick 2 in a jumbled order. And I preferred the first one. Yet I'm still quite keen to see the third one.
I went to see Toy Story 4 and ... it was great! I really enjoyed it and thought it was almost perfect. The new character Forky was my fave.

8.5/9 out of 10

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The only annoyance was the wrapping up of Gabby Gabby’s storyline. They avoid a happy ending with a pointless fake out only to do a happy ending about 2 minutes later. They should have just given her the early happy ending and been done with it.

but then her evil plan would have been rewarded. The way they ended it meant she found someone equally alone who didn't care about her stolen voice box.

Loved toy story 4 also, though it didn't get me in the feels quite so squarely as toy story 3. The latter very much tweaked my fear of the kids growing up and moving on.
Tonight I've watched the Purge. It wasn't very good at all.

I understand your point in your spoiler but the fake out and then ‘real’ happy ending did nothing for me or the pacing of the film. It slooooowed right down thanks to cramming in all the goodbyes together. Since Woody had already volunteered his “assistance” rather than being a unwilling participant to her evil plan having her story close earlier wouldn’t have made that much difference IMO.
I watched Transformers the Last Knight and thought it was OK, quite fun but unlikely to stand up to any scrutiny whatsoever.

I enjoyed reading some of the reviews on IMDB. Boy, did it get some bad ones.

I think I've seen all the Transformer films now but I'm not 100% sure... to be honest I'm struggling a bit to remember much about them other than some set pieces here and there, the whole series seems fun but also quite forgettable and kinds of inconsistent nonsense really.
I've seen most of the Bay Transformers films and they're largely cack, which is unsurprising because, well, Bay.

Bumblebee, on the other hand, is brilliant. More of this timeline please.
Yesterday. It's a bit odd. I liked it, it's sweet (Richard Curtis, so as you might expect), but it has a really interesting premise, and doesn't really do enough with it.

Spiderman: Away from Home. I wondered if I might feel a bit Meh, post Endgame, but I loved it. LOVED it. Brilliant. He's such a good Spiderman, and it mixes the teeny bits with the action, and the idea of him being local but acting more widely than that so well. We're back to credit sequences, the first is a doozy and the one right at the end worth waiting for.
Is it ok for a 9yo that loved the previous spidey film?
we're mostly watching series but we watched I am mother on Netflix
I thought it was pretty good, interesting premise and stayed pretty interesting. I thought the ending let it down though
I liked Far From Home a lot.
miki wrote:

Yes, I think it's fine. Though they might tut a bit at the teen romance stuff. "Get on with saving the world, idiot!"

Just discovered there's a John wick action strategy game coming out, with Thomas Was Alone's Mike Bothell at the helm

https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/johnwickhex/home

And now I've pre-ordered it for £4 thanks to epic's 10 pound off any game offer. First game I've pre ordered I think.

This is sounding good.
