I have a road

See this road?
I found out today that it was never adopted, ie. it doesn't belong to the council, it actually belongs to me.
Plenty of people drive their cars on it, and park on it, and have houses on it.

What should I do with it? So far I have done a few handbrake turns safe in the knowledge that the local bobby can only stand and watch (and then, possibly, only with my permission).

Next step: Look into private clamping laws
Does it have two different names or one?
You own a road? Oh you are just taking the piss now.
edit: a riverside drive, no less!
Grim yesterday:
:hat:

Do that and I will actually hate you.

edit: also, please get a sign and name your road "Grim... St" :)
Clearly, you should forge in steel an enormous motorised shoe and hat and have them patrol the area.
although it sounds cool, doesn't this mean the council can send you bills for the maintance of the last few years?
No, he didn't solicit that service.

They can certainly STOP maintaining it now.

Are you sure? Do you own the entire block of flats that you live in, or something? Or do you merely have a part share in the freehold of the block and therefore actually only own a part share in the freehold ownership of the road?

And as for other people parking and driving, there may well be an established right of way now.
Grim..., how did you come to own the road in the first place? Have you inherited it, or something? If so, why did the person you inherited it from own it.

I am quite interested and quickly rifling through my chest of drawers to see if I have own long-forgotten streets that I have known nothing about. The Harrow Road, or something like that. Maybe the North Circular.

He's so rich now that councils and governments just assume he owns everything, and bend right over.

I ride past a 'Brains Lane' on the way to work. Worth a chuckle every time.
Do NOT do what the guy did in Mine All Mine.
Grim..., ignore these baffoons and there "legalality" questions!
In bed last night I had this thought: Does the road get to have a postcode, and if it doens't have one, can you "apply" for one? If so, try and bag "0ZZ" or something cooooool looking!
You should definitely change its name to "Grim... Beard Rd." too.
If it's your road, can you sell the naming rights, like they do with football stadiums. OK, living on Starbucks Street, or Tesco Avenue might be a but crap, but at least you'll get a few quid.
Call it "Excellent Street" and use it to hold drag races,

An old fashioned street party? I'll bring a trifle and some bunting.
Dig it all up and split it into allotments. With a bronze statue of yourself in the middle, with laser eyes.
That's just around the corner from my old flat... ah, the memories.
I iz under your road, uncoverin your victimz.
I have to echo the question as to what you own on that road that allows you to claim ownership on the road itself? :P

I suppose a tank would persuade people.
Can I build a house on it?

It'd be more of a shocker to the council if he discovered he also owned the river, since it's a fairly popular one.

Yes, but I'm by far the hardest bloke that was at the residents association last night, so I call the shots, obv.

Pavement yes, road no apparently. Because we could gate it if we wanted.

If we choose to maintain it (which we do) then we have to pay for it. We don't have to, though.

I would like to build four houses, then knock them down and build a hotel.

Grim.. yesterday.

Most obscure joke on here, ever.
I'm interested in this.
How do you specifically own it?

There is an unadopted road near me and it's a state, ofc the council won't do anything to help fix it as they didn't adopt it and turn their backs. So who's road isi t? If many people live on it...
