King's Dark Tower series - spoilerific
Reply
I am on the last book of the series, again.
Second time around it's much, much better (and I liked it the first time) - perhaps also helped by the fact that I'm just reading all seven books straight through.
You are the Nirejhenge of books.
I've tried reading several King novels over the years and even some of his Bachman novels. I don't like his writing style — it just doesn't grab me in anyway whatsoever and feels for all the world like I'm counting words rather than reading.
I can't stand most King, but the Bachman books are brilliant.
I think it's a Bachman book which is the only one of his I've managed to finish. Can't remember which one though, might have been The Running Man — it was over a decade ago.

No, I'm the Nirejhenge of loud Welsh friends.
I have finished the books.
By bugger, they were better this time around. Somehow I'd forgotten that people died, and Eddie's last words to Roland were a bit, er, much.
The ending seemed to suggest that Roland would be able to 'reply' to the horn sound the world-roses made as he walked toward the tower the next time around.
(This post is practically spoiler free)

I have started the new book - The Wind Through The Keyhole.
It fits in after they come out of the green castle near the first thinny and before they get to Callah.

It's pretty good, so far. I had to stop and think about a few of the mid-world words, but then it clicked and they all made sense. It starts off with the ka-tet, but then they have to stop and Roland starts telling them a story, which I think is going to be the meat of the book.

In theory, King can keep writing them forever. Good, say I.
Bearing in mind I fucking HATED Wizard and Glass because it was just Roland sitting around telling a story... would I like this?

Dunno mate. I'm only a little way in.
No, because the second half is a story within a story.

I really enjoyed it though. It felt good to be back in Mid-World after so long. :)

Well, I hope you're all happy. I've had to reread Wizard and Glass again to fit the new book into sequence.

It's... not as Mills and Boon as my memory insisted it was, but IMHO it's still the weakest of the series

Well then.

Who is Elba playing again?
It's going to be awesome.
I hope he plays Roland as Loofa
I presume it's going to be a six part film or something? They couldn't do the source material justice in one film.

Also: yay Elba!
Film then a series is still the current thinking, apparently.
Any idea if they are tackling the story in book-order, or are they doing something different with it?

Gosh
Hey, that movie wasn't as bad as I'd been led to believe. As long as you forget all about the books.

That shot was epic.

I've not seen it yet, but if you

think of it as one of previous/next time loops, it's more palatable.
