Love Death and Robots S02 is here and it's... All right. Some good, some a bit mediocre, some with a classic Range Rover in.
There are only eight of them though, compared to S01's eighteen, which is disappointing.

Right, that was - fine. Thank everything for the "making of" at the end, which for this episode was actually the "explaining of" and helped a lot.
And I suppose this is my thing, and I get why the lead has to have different accents to differentiate the characters, but none of them were convincing. And the problem with 'learning' an accent, and learning the main sounds, is that you can end up sounding like a parody, like an impressionist - and there more Yarwood than Bremner - accentuating the most distinctive bit. I got that feeling over and over, and it was very distracting.
I watched all of BoJack Horseman over the past couple of months.
I enjoyed it, it was very entertaining and cleverly done, although not all of it was easy viewing. I might take a break from watching longer TV series for a while.

I watched the first episode, boy is it hard viewing, the violence and dehumanising treatment of the Slaves, but also the way it's put together and filmed, I was left feeling very unsettled. I am not sure I want to watch any more, but feel I should.
On a side note, have you (or anyone else) seen the film Tubman? It covers the same sort of subject matter, and I thought it was very well done.

I stopped watching, ages ago, as it seemed to disappear from the UK. I could VPN to the US, but I am too lazy
We now have americas full VPN on our works machines. I can now catch up on Supernatural during work hours

Since watching the friends reunion, we've been watching the box set on Netflix. We've got two series left now. I was wondering if it was worth grabbing Joey? I've never seen it myself and now seems as good a time as any to watch it.
It was ok, but nothing amazing.

I've never watched it from start to finish. I've seen almost all of them, for sure - I expect they'll be three or four episodes toward the end that I've never seen.

After my initial effusiveness, I'm finding the latest series of Fargo hard going. It feels like each episode is retreading the same ground. Only up to episode 5, and I know past Fargoes have always been slow burners, and things kick up several notches as all the threads connect, but we're making slow progress. You could say it's taking a while to get... Fargoing.
Alongside it, we've been watching The Great, which really is...erm, great! It's as if Armando Ianucci had a go at retelling the story of Catherine the Great. Utterly vulgar without being trashy, it's very funny, with brilliant performances throughout. Highly recommended.
And we started For All Mankind and Barry. The former seems outstanding, both in terms of story and production values. It frequently looks beautiful and I have a strange soft spot for Joel Kinnaman ever since the US Killing.
And Barry is brilliant because:
- 30 minutes
- Zazz
- Bill Hader
- Coal-black comedy
- 30 minutes
And finally, for anyone with kids, we started watching The Mysterious Benedict Society on Disney+, which is really excellent. Super stylised, reminds me of Channel 4's Utopia at times, with more than a little Wes Anderson thrown in. Our 9 y/o finds it endlessly exciting, and it features Tony Hale and Kristen Schall, so really, what's not to like.

Agreed. And I realised I was similarly crushing on Joel Kinnaman when I saw him in trailers for Suicide Squad. Terrible, terrible, trailers for Suicide Squad, but I'd still watch him.
We started watching The Magicians after Cras mentioned that they’d made a series of the audiobook I was listening to. It’s no Masterpiece, but it’s actually a lot better than the book. There are far more layers of storytelling in the series, and the consequences and actions make far more logical sense. The pace is better (in that it’s slowed down) and they do t keep passing academic years in about eight pages.
The series bears little relation to the books, in a good way. There are some familiar character names, place names, basic premise (magical school, and an enchanted land through a portal - basically Narnia) but even these settings are different from the book.
There is a lot of gratuitous sex in both the book and TV show, but despite a number of orchestra in the first series it still somehow remains a thorough 0 on the Craster scale. There’s not a boob not buttock to be seen. One of the main characters has just drank a whole mason jar of faun ejaculate, but a nipple has not graced the screen once. There’s also a brutal rape scene, which is apparently fine, but don’t let them see a centimetre of man arse or people will be disturbed.

And he was wrong. Series One was a bit crap, because even though they only tied about 10% to the book, it dragged it down. Series two onwards snd it is free snd glorious and I am in love with Elliot AND Margot, and they’ve had a couple of musical episodes because why not, and a 10 minute scene in complete silence, and it’s funny, and poignant snd actually I love this.

Some of the characters (Alice, Kady) are a bit mopey at the moment (mid-season 3) but Quentin is sweet. The episode when Elliot and Quentin quest for a key where they have to solve a mosaic hit me right in the feels, and was just really beautiful. I really quite like Penney, too, and Fen is funny. Actually, the one person I wasn’t so keen on was the Felicia Day character, because it kept jolting me out of the reverie.

I'd say it's money well spent to subscribe to Apple TV for a month or two and rinse all their content before cancelling.
Ted Lasso is the best feel-good TV ever.
For All Mankind is a great alternate history version of the Space Race and there's a good selection of other stuff to try.
We're doing Schmigadoon (Weird musical) and Physical (80s aerobics drama) at the moment.

I just took up the 6 months apple tv offer for PS5, I reckon we'll rinse it pretty quick though. There's some quality stuff on there but not bewildering amounts.
I've just finished For All Mankind. Really enjoyed it. I'm constantly baffled when sci-fi shows/films aiming for a sense of realism do things that are obviously nonsensical not just to experts but even to someone like me who has a passing interest in space travel and a GCSE level grasp of physics. It's just so fucking lazy. But I really appreciated what they did on this show, taking the NASA and Soviet programmes, borrowing some ideas from designs and cancelled projects that were advanced though never actually built and then doing a load of what ifs. Great fun.

Watched Lisey's Story on Apple TV. Should have sacked it off but we were at episode 5 by the time we twigged that it was utter shite then we fell for the old sunk cost fallacy and saw it through.
I love Brooklyn Nine-Nine but the first two episodes of this new series felt like a different show altogether, a really sharp turn or drop-off.
I admire that they are trying to acknowledge current affairs but boy did it feel different, and I'm sure it's a tricky tightrope to walk but I just didn't find much of it funny.
