Thanos didn't bring Vision back to life either. He reversed time with the time stone.

It’s like you’re not even paying attention.
I’m getting visions of Vision version aversion.

I would argue that Vision was alive and born from the Mind Stone. His personality was a mixture of the Jarvis AI, Tony Stark and Banner's engrams and whatever Ultron plugged in there. The spark that woke him up was the lightning strike from Mjolnir. He was defo alive.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The new White Vision? Maybe not. He has the memories and mid of Vision, but not Mind Stone portion. Could you argue that ScarletVision gave him a 'soul'? Maybe??

Yes it was very Frankenstein esk..

So without the mind stone it is just a robot? I am sure they will explain white vision away, now his memeories are unlocked as the SW Vision unlocked them.

Still a robot... robots are not alive.

Do you even know what show I was talking about?

Yes. Wandavision.

You’ve got your answer then.

Hint: it’s not Wanda.

Vision was never alive. He was an AI, in a body made by Ultron. They just found a way to switch it back on..

This is not new, as he was destroyed in IW and Thanos brought him back, then took the mindstone.

It's a bit more than that, because they could switch the robot on, but he wasn't Old Vision. But then Old Vision, now a product of SW, can transfer over all his memories. I suppose they could do some clever "New Vision doesn't know this because SW didn't, so her version of OV couldn't know it". But I reckon it'll just be some 'she recreated him, which recreated his memories' stuff.

I'm fine with it, because it was lovely, but it is just a complicated "dead! No! Not!"

I think that was the fun part. The series was lovely and the was wrapped up.

I think i am going to prove myself wrong - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test

The white vision will pass the Turing Test, even though technically not alive. A bit like Data on Star Trek.

Damn Sci-fi

Basically I disagree strongly with everything Sat said about Wandavision. It’s genuinely like we watched two entirely different shows, because the things he said in his post didn’t happen in the one I watched. Bonkers.

There was also an excellently batshit scene where The Vision went for a walk and imagined he was walking down the aisle at Wrestlemania, on his way to fight for the world title.
I can’t imagine being the guy who watches a fantasy superhero series where a woman literally materialises a pair of kids out of thin air, or a guy turns into a green monster or has an entire film where people go back in time travel due to a loads of bollocks where someone just says quantum before a word like it’s a thing and yet, after all that, stakes his claim on ‘robots cant be alive’. Hilarious.

It’s a lot more complicated than that. You have to first ask, “what is being alive?”

It’s quite philosophical, as was covered briefly by the Trigger’s Broom* paradox he discussed with himself

You could’ve saved yourself a lot of bandwidth knowing that 99% of it’s on Netflix and the other 1% is on Prime
But then I can't test out the BitTorrent capabilities of my (at the time) shiny new NAS.

;)
You could…by downloading something that isn’t on Netflix
I've just skimmed right past the last posts because they seemed to be talking about WandaVision and I'm not up to date.

We finished series one of The Expanse. Really enjoyed it, fantastic world building and left us eager for more. Started series two immediately and love it.

I could be a dick about it, But you seem to be doing all that.

Yes with sci-fi you have to suspend belief.

The film About ultron covered the creation of vision. Yes he is sentient, does that make him alive?
I mean if having feelings and thoughts and a consciousness isn’t being alive, what is? Why should meat with a current flowing through it have a monopoly on life?
I guess that is what the Turing Test proposed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test

Never heard of it, tell me more.

I mean that test is to see if AI can trick you into thinking it’s alive, it doesn’t ponder the question as to whether it actually *is*.

But as you’ve already said a robot isn’t alive on a number of occasions, it appears your mind is made up.

Excellent! Series two and three are the best it gets, I think, though one was excellent.
Seriously though, this book by Penrose is very interesting:

Yes I did, but it is always good to challenge ones own views.

We're on series three at the moment. Getting to the "might as well see what happens" stage with it, though. Finding it not terrible but not really great either. Main guy whatshisface is a bit dull, Amos is the best character and Naomi whenever she appears always makes me feel like I'm witnessing an episode of Dr Who. And why did the pilot suddenly turn into a complete whoopin' and a hollerin' space cowboy sometime in series 2 and now seems to have stopped it again?

So who programmed the Transformers then?
I’ve watched an episode of Disenchantment from the Simpsons/Futurama guys.

Not only did it not knock my socks off, I was positively bored by the end of it. I was waiting for the jokes but it didn’t even muster a smile. Does it get Golden-era Simpsons/Futurama better or is this it?

I’ve also watched copious amounts of the early seasons of The (US) Office. Now that’s hilarious. Apart from when Ricky Gervais shows his gurning fucking face for two cameos.
Disenchantment is never as immediately funny as Futurama, but it’s still entertaining.
I remember his cameos being quite late in the run? And yes, they’re shit. In general an amazing series though.
Remember MTV’s Liquid Television? It had a load of different animation styles and weird stories, plus it also gave us the spectacular Aeon Flux.

Love, Death & Robots is that.

Loads of different styles telling weird stories lasting no more than 10 minutes each. Most are entirely average, a couple are really good (the lost spaceship, in particular) and some are just shit (hitler, the trash heap, lucky 13 spaceship).

The animation on display is really where this all shines though. Some of the CGI makes you wonder if they’ve just done CG over real actors, some do a bit of the old manga, some Pixar style stuff etc. Some of the voice acting is a bit terrible but if you like animation then you’ll enjoy seeing the incredible effort that’s gone into some of these.

I could see one or two of these being made into a full series like Aeon Flux - especially the Chinese spirit one. I was gutted when that skipped time and just ended. There’s even some tatties and, to even that out, a fair few penises. So a bit of everything for everyone.
I watched another episode of Disenchantment too. I won’t be watching any further.

I was hoping you were talking about a second series there, but that sounds like the first one. I do hope they make another one, because they were very good on the whole.
I believe there's another series coming

The Expanse is wonderful. I binged seasons 2-4 in like a week.
We’re nearly finished season two. It’s brilliant. I look forward to the kids going to bed at night time so we can watch more!
I've watched 3 episodes of Jack Ryan series 2 tonight. It's brilliant. Not the normal sort of programme that I would enjoy and it's quite confusing but very tense.
WTF. Riverdale is doing a "keys in the bowl" swingers episode
The Expanse just goes to show how important the broadcaster is. Imagine if it had been put out by HBO? I adore it.

Makes me nervous about the Wheel of Time show which is also being made by Amazon Prime, although with Rosamund Pike playing Moiraine it might be impossible to miss.
We've just finished season 5 of the Expanse and was suprised enough by:

Oh wow. I couldn't find a clear timeline, but some suggestions:

That the series was filmed when the allegations were made. So I wonder whether that accounts for it being a fairly low key event (I wasn't sure it had even happened at the time) - they just spliced it in afterwards without extra filming, to get rid of him.

Did you see the WoT pilot from way back in the day, it's utterly atrocious!

I'm very interested in the new show, as it's probably my favourite fantasy series, but not sure how they are going to do the breadth of it justice.

That makes sense - I was thinking just of 'no reshoots with him', which fits that.

Alien spaceship wreckage lands on earth. Weird shit happens.
Caught up on The Expanse so now we’re waiting for season six. Incredible show. Might be better than BSG.

Absolutely. My favourite bit right now is doing an impression of her swearing excessively at the slightest inconvenience. Like my wife brings me a gin without a raspberry in it.
