I wasn't all that impressed by them. I certainly didn't think they were must-experience.

I quite enjoyed them to the point that we went back and researched the series afterwards.
More or Less has a bit on Chernobyl, last week's episode. Fact checking, obvs.

Not researched, re watched.
Just finished series two of The Expanse.

What a brilliant, brilliant, thing it is.

Really? I stopped after S1 as it was merely ok.

Did you finish S1? The first eight or so episodes of S1 are dull as ditchwater but the last couple and every episode since are brilliant.

Yep. It was ok.

I think the first couple of S1 are a bit slower as we get everything set up, but I don’t feel like there’s a massive gap between midpoint S1 and midpoint S2. Really enjoying it though. I think I’m up to S2e08 or something.
Co-production with the BBC!
Holy shit The Boys (Amazon Prime) is fucking amazing. It's an existing comic series about vigilantes going up against corrupt superheroes. It's dark, violent, funny, and really well made. Great cast led by a Karl Urban who's a bit confused about his accent.

:This: episode one is amazing
Having read the comics,
(1) I’m a bit disappointed they didn’t cast Simon Pegg as the guy whose wife explodes, as he’s a spitting image of the character; and
(2) the comic is extraordinarily grim and full of fairly depraved unpleasantness, so I expect (hope?) it will have toned it down some.
I will definitely be watching it when it starts showing at my local multiplex.
He was originally lined up to play that role, but it took too long to get made so he ended up playing the dad instead.

By all accounts it's somewhat toned down, yes.
I'm really looking forward to it having enjoyed the comics and was pleased to see it getting good reviews in general. Apparently it's been renewed for a second season already.
What no 4k?

Well, it might be, but the prime UI is so utterly atrocious that it is impossible to tell.

All of :this:
Yeah, I agree - though the accents might get annoying. And surely they thought of Rev Stu first, then Pegg?
Been watching Succession. Pretty great.

It's the story of a wealthy family who lost everything, and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together. Sort of.

Media mogul (I think supposed to be somewhat based on Rupert Murdoch) is approaching retirement, and his shitty kids are scrabbling for power etc.

It's made by Jesse Armstrong (Peep Show/The Thick of It), although I'd say it leans a bit more towards Drama than Comedy (but it's still a comedy). It's an HBO Prestige Show, so it feels pretty different to his lower budget British TV work, but yeah it's got some of the same kinda feeling to it.

Kevin from Home Alone's brother is fantastic in it.
I watched all of The Boys today. It was good, you should watch it.

We are loving this. Definitely a drama as you say, but each episode has several laugh out loud moments, it's a strange beast.

Matthew Macfadyen's character is also brilliant, looks like he's having a blast playing him. In fact, it's a great ensemble piece, excellent performances across the board.
I've watched the first couple of episodes of The Boys and I agree with everyone who said it's great... It's great.

Oh yeah Macfadyen is another stand out for sure. He's like equal parts snake/creep/best friend/puppet master/puppet. Never know which direction he's going to go in.

Pretty sure Cousin Greg is going to end up sitting on the Iron Throne somehow. He's on the first steps of his path to becoming Don Corleone meets Gordon Gecko.
Boys gets better every episode.
Really enjoyed The Boys - different to the comics, which are also excellent (except for his continued use of the wrong flipping 'discrete').

And moved on to Patriot, also on Amazon, which from episode one looks like an excellent Black Comedy about a secret agent who is maintaining cover as a not-very-good engineer.
The Boys - brilliant, and no they haven’t toned it down a great deal :)
Two episodes in, and yeah The Boys is good.

I really like Simon Pegg as an actor, but I can't even remember what his real voice sounds like any more. It's always somewhat off-putting when he does an accent.

Finished this on Sunday. Utterly brilliant. And you may be onto something with Greg the Egg.
Yeah I wrote that post before the final episode, but I'm even more confident now.

I mean... apart from the sex, the orgies, Herogasm, the homophobic supes, the paedophile supes, the drugs cut with Queen Maeve's vaginal discharge...
Thought I’d take a look at The Boys after I read some gushing comments on a subreddit I follow. Turned it on and it’s about fucking superheroes and it’s based on a comic FFS; no wonder you lot are talking about it.

Still, I kept watching and, whoa, it’s kinda great. The characters appear interesting and I love the dark humour and violence.

I’m not enjoying this muted colour pallet that the show has going on though (at least in the 2 episodes I watched). It’s like someone filmed it and then slapped a dark tint over in post. And I’m concerned whether the superheroes are just going to be bad-guys rather than something more nuanced and complex that might elevate it above simple Preacher-style two dimensional characters with some nice arty violence.

Dammit and I forgot to download that German boob programme that was Hearty was on about too. I’ll watch this until the end or until it bores me and then I’ll watch the hairy tatties.
“You’re a filthy pig who loves to eat ass.”

This scene. Jesus Christ.
And that dolphin scene. Great stuff.
God yes the dolphin.
Is that fly that was in episode, what, 3 or 4-ish going to make a return? It just buzzed around people’s faces a couple of times in a single episode but it hasn’t been in any further episodes. So yeah, what’s the deal with the fly, aye?

BTW: got 2 episodes left to watch.

Just a style thing, according to Kripke.
Huh? How weirdly distracting.
Finished The Boys. Yeah, really fucking great. Definitely needs a second series.

Has the comic got an ending or is it an ongoing series?

The comic had quite a lot of issues and a few mini series but had an actual ending back in 2012.

The comic and the TV show diverge on quite a lot of things.
Cras wrote:

It’s like Preacher. It changes almost everything plot related, but is still very faithful to most of the characters and their arcs.

The comic has a very definite ending, but I don’t think they’ll go that way with the TV show. It wouldn’t fit now.
Wunch is fucking hot.

Obviously not, yah dum dum
She so fiiiine in the finale.
Finished watching The Boys last night.

The scene with Butcher and the baby was incredible.

Overall, tremendous fun.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Though, FFS, anyone could have come up with three ways to kill Translucent in under a minute, let alone that crew.

Be interested to see where they go with a second series.
A load of Futurama episodes have been added to Amazon Prime Video, so that should keep me busy for a while.

Although this is confusing -

No season six, but the list goes up to 10 seasons when Wikipedia says there were only 7.
