I'm one of the other people who has never played FF7.
I played Final Fantasy VII for a weekend, from Friday evening until Sunday night, with barely any sleep, food or toilet breaks.
And once I left the house on Monday morning I never, ever touched it again, despite not being anywhere near finishing it.
I think it was partly that the world had just opened up and I had no idea where to go and partly because I was scared that if I ever played it again I'd never do anything else.

I was also swept up by all the hype only to be disappointed. Also, I think there was only one swear in the game (when the black bloke goes 'Shit!!!' in a train somewhere) and the game chose to do that bit when my Grandpa was looking at the new game I'd got for Christmas. It was very embarrassing. But yeah, the random battles just ruined it for me. I didn't even get off the first disc before I'd become so totally bored I went and did something else.
Never played it. The only Final Fantasy game I've played is X. I quite enjoyed that, but I've no real desire to play another JRPG. The random battles and the grinding to level didn't really appeal to me all that much.
FF12 is different! Go buy it-now
