Advertise-me-do

Seeking a few thoughts on how to spend some pennies on advertising.

I run a business to business service and already advertise on Adwords as well as the Yellow Pages and yell.com.

Adwords works quite well for me but the Yellow Pages and yell.com yield far less. However I continue to use them because they are at least better than nothing.

So I'm trying to find new avenues to promote my services.

I've pretty much established that printed advertising doesn't really work for me (adverts in newspapers, business sections etc). Customers pretty much have to be looking for my services to begin with. Mailshots don't work as I don't have the resources to do the follow-ups.

So what's the hot place to advertise apart from adwords? I get umpteen companies phoning me up offering me listings on their sites but most of them are not big names. I'm not sure that business people even use services like Touch Local either.

Anyone have any experience of any services I might not have heard of?

Cheers.
Hmmm, not something I can help with unfortunately. But I promise to give you first shout if I ever get some money to make 'proper' video stuff.

I found myself walking around the kitchen earlier, fingers outstreached, humming the Noseybonk theme as I prepared my tea.

Please pray for me tonight.
Sorry chinny - I'll be too preoccupied, as with every night, with fervent prayers for Zardoz to dream all night about Noseybonk.
Soooo.... what do you do. Is it video editing?

Yeah production, low end corporate stuff.

Pron?

I bet you do, don't you. And keep copies for the "library", with all the ladies' faces replaced with Alan Sugar's rugged visage. Oh yes.

No. In fact I had to add some negative keywords to my adword campaign to stop me having to pay for people looking for such services.

Doing that kind of work would destroy my business in, ooooh, about 3 seconds.
You mainly work for the Scottish Catholic Church?
Why not diversify into pr0n Chinny? Lots of money(shots) in it.

See my previous answer.
You want to work for people who aren't such prudish twats, then.

I generally find that someone's attitude to pron is a good barometer of their attitude to various things that any faintly human liberal holds dear.

I believe Chinny gets work from large companies. We all know their attitudes to anything which doesn't inspire short-term profit for the handful of people at the top...

Their attitudes? If they're against that sort of thing, why has there been such a kerfuffle about big City firms holding client meetings in strip-clubs, which the City firms maintain is perfectly acceptable?

Surely not... double standards... ?
Double post craziness

What happened to the delete post option?

Large companies, small companies, 3 charities, and a school. I wouldn't see any of them going a bundle on it to be honest.

Is there anything 'viral' you can do?

Not for the kinds of clients who use me. It's more about people finding me when they need me which is why Adwords is good.

Are you the A-Team?

A security guard asked me yesterday if I was planning to put a rocket launcher on my tripod (it's rather big).

I also have a metal case from Maplin that I use for radio mics but would be the kind of thing The A-Team might keep handguns in.
Chinny. For the love of Gods (by the Bitmap Brothers), PLEASE put an avatar on. You are not the same person without one.

Look, I've done it OK!

First of all I wanted a picture of Soldeed from The Horns Of Nimon*. Googling revealed an image that I'd captured 10+ years ago and made avaliable but had been butchered.

So then I looked for Benny from Crossroads only, yet again, to recognise the image I wanted as one of my own!

So I went into the archive and found a better one.

I also found a fantastic grab of Amos from Emmerdale Farm that I took.

I used to do a lot of video grabs, many of them for reasons I can't remember. That is all.

* I could even recognise that I'd taken it on my Vidi 12 on the A1200. Sigh.
Who is that, then?

Miss Diane. Or not.....

Benny from Crossroads (no, not the remake - althought I think he did have a cameo in that)

I don't think Benny did get a cameo in the remake. But yes, it is Benny.

Is it you that looks like Benny? Someone from (World Of Spectrum - Ed) claimed to look like Benny.

Anyway, here's my picture of Amos. Captured August 1998 according to the file creation time. Cripes!

No, look in the avatar thread for pictures of me...

That would be effort.

From now on I will imagine you to look like David Hunter from Crossroads, and you can imagine me to look like Adam Chance.

I may change Benny. I've just realised the implications of trying to give help in advice threads while a grinning loon in a hat sits to the left of my text.

I see your problem. I'll shoot in the dark since I'm still not very wise about what you do...

Is there anyone whose client base overlaps with yours? Folk who get commissioned to do promo videos (or whatever kind of business you're in), for example?

Could you try and get some cross-promotion going there?

I have this to an extent already. But it's not work you can rely on.
