I like Serial (and S-Town), but I always found they petered out toward the end.

That's the nature of reality, I suppose. With the first season in particular, there was no chance of a shocking climax as you know from the start that Adnan was in prison for murder.

At least with Making a Murderer, there were a few shocking moments along the way. Serial has always felt like a fascinating journey, rather than a destination.

The new series is supposedly different as they've been resident in a courthouse for a few months and following lots of different, everyday cases. Should be interesting.
Dirty John had a cracker of an ending, though.

:this:
That's what made it better than Serial and S-town, in my head.
Doctor Death is grim* listening so far. The adverts in it are just hilarious though.

New episode out today!

What is it about podcasts that the only things they ever seem to advertise are recruitment agencies and mattresses?
"Sleep your way to the top"
And socks.

But nothing else
Except Squarespace
SquareSpace and Hello Fresh are all over YouTube as well in terms of sponsored content; they must have massive advertising budgets. Or these kind of adverts are really cheap...
Totally forgot to post about this. The always brilliant Julia Davis and someone called Vicki Pepperdine do a podcast called "Dear Joan and Jericha" which sees them as a pair of agony aunts talking through problems allegedly sent in by listeners. Pretty much the entire thing seems to be ad-libbed and it's weird, twisted and very funny throughout.

The animated 'Rex Factor' on Richard III is rather charming. Only 17 minutes so they've cut a lot of the story out, but an enjoyable take on the podcast of kings.

Nice! Like the sound of this.

Great podcast.
Just listened to the first part of Empire-ical Evidence on Radio 4. Andy Zaltzman and Anuvab Pal wander around London discussing how we remember the Empire today. Part Two takes the view from India.

*adds to iPlayer pull list*

Awesome, thanks dude.
And while searching for that to add, I came across this:

Clive Anderson talks a range of interesting Law stuff. Might be worth a listen?
Listened to the recent Richard Herring podcast with Ross Noble earlier. It was all decent but his stories from working with Mel Brooks were ace.
This season of Porno is utter gold.

This season is very good. I’m annoyed I’m always too lazy to bother getting tickets.

isn't it. James Haskel was a great guest
I want to know which member of the royal family he was carrying.
In a rare "ahead of the curve" moment I've already listened to today's porno guest's podcast. It's called The Butterfly Effect, and it's about how Pornhub changed the porn industry and, in turn, the world.

It's really interesting.
Going to see Rex Factor Live tonight!
Debating whether to get them to sign my copy of Dan Jones' 'Plantegenants', or perhaps my battered and well-thumbed edition of Tom Paine.

I listened to the first and realised I just didn’t care any more.
What are they up to now?

This is book four.

Sorry, that wasn’t clear. Ep 1 of season 4.
It just felt like the same stuff as before.
Christ, I thought that was the best one in ages.

When he jizzed on the cake!
Whaaa? Seriously? Ep1 was the wedding, wasn't it?
Don’t think that was in the one I heard. There was a mysterious man at the wedding.....
Ah, the wedding went on for three chapters, so I may have been confused.
Went to see Rex Factor live last night in a small pub basement. Very enjoyable, and everyone hung around the pub afterwards. Graham and Ali were very sociable too.
Had so much fun the show finished just before 9 but we left the pub at midnight! I now owe Ali a pint as he bought everyone a round.
G for gin! T for tonic! Our six titties are supersonic!
Rich Hall is doing the 18:30 show on Radio 4 today.

Silly Giphy
Serial season 3 is out, if you didn't know because Gaywood didn't tell you.
Oh God, the Christmas episode of Porno is brilliant.
I can recommend "The Offensive" podcast.

https://radiostakhanov.com/theoffensive/

...it's basically The Thick of It set in the context of the management team of football club.

Sounds intriguing. Subscribed!
The SGU's 'Science or Fiction' this week was all about bear safety. Brilliant stuff, although oddly 'buy them a drink' was not one of the solutions.
I'm increasingly convinced that the heavy lifting on the show is done by Steve and Cara. I find her interjections usually more informed and well-pitched than the other panellists.
David Tennant is doing a podcast - first ep drops tomorrow - guest is Olivia Coleman

I've ordered some of those poncy earbuds that all the hipsters wear these days, with the idea of listening to some podcasts on the way to and from work.

What's good these days? Comedy and interesting shit is the name of the game, plus can anyone recommend a good client for Android?

Porno is top of the list as I haven't heard any of them, and the radio 4 comedy half hour thingy, but other than that I have no idea, and I'm not going to scroll up and read the thread, like some kind of polite and engaged forum user.

This. Takes a few episodes before they nail down the format, and they only sort out the sound when they get to the Tudors, but otherwise it's brilliant. They're onto their thrid series now, looking at consorts (having done both the English and Scottish monarchs).

Also, comedywise: 'No such thing as a fish' - the researchers for QI reveal their four favourite facts from the past week.

EDIT: Oh, and:

'Remainaics' - for Brexity stuff and bad language
'Shut up and sit down' - board games
'Skeptics' Guide to the Universe' - for science, but can be a bit too long each week.
'David Tennant does a podcast with...' for loveliness.
