What a perfect opportunity to post this picture of me, the wife and the lead singer of the Spin Doctors. He did a gig the other week and it was great!

I was also wearing Captain America socks that night too and didn't realise until I got there. I must have looked like a right Marvel fan boy.

Not seen this before, was it taken at weekend?

There was an Xbox in the boot! And some Chanel Perfume! And a Fabergé Egg! And an original Picasso sketch! And Lord Lucan's suicide note! Honest!

Good to hear. And don"t forget: I I weren't here, you'd have nobody to aspire to be.

It's actually quite useful to know exactly what not to do and say.

I don't think you needed an example to show that a flasher mac was a poor idea.

Mali - do you have any photos to hand of you in a situation that people might want to aspire to (and perhaps might be secretly jealous of)?

It's really funny you mentioned that. Only this summer, after walking the Monsal Trail, I bumped into someone who had also done it. And they had it filmed!
Let's roll the dice on the Subaru's MOT! I think rear shocks (car looks slightly saggy at the back but it does have 2 car seats and stuff always in it*), and a side light out because I don't drive it at night**

In EXCITING ROVER NEWS everything currently functions to a degree, but you cannot clear windows by opening then closing them.

*Might as well put stiffer anti roll bars in if they are being changed out, with a quick decoupler.

**MrsA complained the auto headlights were broken***. It doesn't have auto headlights.

*** Also, the "horrible, juddering banging noise" the car makes all the time is her using third gear for EVERYTHING****

**** Which explains the clutch
Literally third gear for everything? Parking, traffic jams, motorway? That doesn't sound healthy.

Not everywhere, but noticeably up hills. And there are many very steep ones around here (and few gritters, so AWD useful when going to/from Dick Hudsons)

I've had some experience with these bastards, it's a forester right? the springs go soft so shocks probably won't help. The real problem is that the springs you get from the usual motor factors are all too soft straight out of the box and the ride height is low again straight away so you can't use aftermarket springs. Subaru don't have any original ones left so you can't use those either. The closest we got to a satisfactory solution was to fit discovery springs which make it a tad too high and a little harsh but close enough. can't remember what model disco though, it was the older one with the staircase roof.

Yeah, Grim.. said to get these

To fit.

Equally, I could be just overly concerned as the back of the car has in it 2 isofix based child seats and a double buggy in the boot so it does sit a bit low due to the weight
Sounds Hella Flush to me.
If only. You see, MrsA is shorter than the roof line. There has been many occasions, when, after egress, I have engaged in what has turned out to be a solioquy as she's suddenly 200 yards across the car park.

Tbf anyone in their right mind would swiftly walk away if you're talking at them.

Nice, that looks more like it
Big Car failed MOT because of a sidelight bulb. Which I forget it had (they arecseperate to headlights). Anyway, it's being done now. So, that's a relief for me.
Neighbour appears to have taken delivery of a Focus RS. It sounds like it means business.
I'm just watching one of those on The Grand Tour. Looks like a lot of fun.
Certainly does. Although the new RS is a big step up from the previous version.
That said, I'd rather spend my money on a Mustang convertible with the Ecoboost engine.

Mate.
The Mustang 'vert that I rented in Vegas was an EcoBoost, not the V8 as I first thought.

Was still a real pleasure to drive - although admittedly American roads and traffic are very different to here.
There's no denying the EcoBoost is a lovely engine.

Who wants to guess what a better engine might be? ;)
The one I rented was not an ecoboost, and man was it fun. Big fucking roads with no other cars? Yes please.

The soft top was pointless though, because Arizona is a dustbowl.

Seriously man, what's lovely about it? In my view it's just yet another tedious, blown 4-pot that's fine in a little family hatch like a Focus, but a Mustang...? 8) Pur-lease.

If you're going to go to all the trouble and expense of getting an (IMO lovely) car like a Muzzie, don't emasculate it with some crappy little eco-box mill. I'm sure it does make good power, torque or whatever but it's just wrong for this kinda car. It'd be like shoving a CBR600 transverse four into my Harley.

Woofly, atmo OHV V8 or nothing. :)

Oh, and fixed head too, not convertible. :)

I can understand it to an extent. The V8 sounds amazing but 17 mpg is not so good. And it still looks the same.

It's what's inside that counts ;)

I'd take the Focus RS over a Eco 'Stang, though.

Yep, it would be brisk enough to keep me happy and would make it just about affordable instead of too much.
I'll probably buy a diesel E Class convertible instead though. :p
I can definitely see the appeal of having 'sensible' versions of high performance/muscle cars. (If you can accept the slight contradiction in terms.) The problem with big V8s is they're always going to be fucking abominable on fuel, I was sniffing around Merc C63s as an alternative to the S4 but real-world I'd be getting through two gallons of petrol a day just to drive to work and back in an entirely sensible manner, and you have to think about how those costs will mount up over time.

Indeed, one of the reasons I went for the S4 is that they dropped the old (mega-thirsty) V8 for a supercharged V6 for the 2010 model, which added a fair chunk of extra miles per gallon onto its fuel efficiency.

If I were choosing one of these two Mustangs for a daily use car, I'd go for the EcoBoost I think. Looks the same, goes mostly the same, doubtless it's missing some 'character' that some folks would consider borderline heretical to drop from the package, but I'd have no problem with it.
