pointless expenses and cars

Other than that, totally clean bill of health, it's a 20 year old car that's basically in perfect working order.

Rest of the service was as expected, oil change, oil filter change etc, full check over the car as a whole.

CAMRY IS THE FOREVER CAR.

When is the M4 being delivered?
That was before we were told we're working from home forever!

And that was before the island was COVID-free. :)
I believe I have identified the required bushes, they are not expensive and by all accounts fitting them is fairly straightforward (not that I'd attempt to do it myself, of course).

The exhaust I think I'll leave as it was 'borderline' and I'll most likely do maybe 1000 miles between now and this time next year, assuming the working from home situation remains the same. As such I'll reappraise the exhaust at the next service.

I was going to order a double DIN head unit to replace the factory fit cassette/radio/CD combo, but TBH it doesn't seem worth it since I'll hardly ever be in the car.

How are the parking sensors?
If it can play CDs it is already more useful to me than a PS5

Have you thought about saving £400 and buying a second hand CD player instead

I just keep going backwards until I hear a bang, and then I know it's time to stop.
Turns out they can get the bushes after all, OFFICIAL TOYOTA BUSHES cost £35 for a pair instead of £4.08p but I'll go with the £35 ones as I can be sure they're the right ones.

Amusingly, the two bits of the exhaust that need replacing cost....... £350 and £450 respectively. Needless to say I will not be spending £800 (+ labour) on the exhaust.

The lady at the garage said it was ridiculous and will get prices on generic parts for me, and also said there's a place in Douglas that can make up this sort of thing for a lot less than that.

(I might even just leave it, since it doesn't desperately need doing.)
NostraZardoz predicts you will spend more than the price of the Camry on bits before buying a performance car.
Does it have tyre pressure sensors?
It's a bit more low tech than that, one simply looks at the tyres and decides if they appear to be inflated enough or not.

Looking at the listing I'd say the MUCH CHEAPER ones are the right ones. Also they should be easy to fit as they're split (diagonal line from centre to lower right) rather than solid so just pop over.
Yeah I'm almost certainly paying way over the odds for the SUPER GENUINE TOYOTA BUSHES when the cheaper ones will be the right ones and do the job just as well. It's an extra £32 so I'll put up with that, fuck all chance I'm spending £800 on exhaust bits though.

Also aircon regas is booked in for tomorrow, but I don't have a price on it.
Make sure you get genuine Toyota cold air.
MaliTuning can provide OEM standard hot air.
Aircon regas done. £78.

Blows super duper icy cold now.

Just the bushes and the exhaust bits left to do and then I will have a perfect 20 year old car.

EDIT - The chap at the garage place was swooning over the car, saying what gorgeous condition it's in and how 'they don't make them like this anymore'.
But for all you know he also says the same thing about wattle and daub houses.
I thought you were leaving the exhaust bits?
I'll see what the price turns out to be for the generic parts, or to have them made up at Island Exhausts. Obviously it'd need to be a fuck lot less than the £800 Toyota want for original manufacturer parts.....
Which parts are on the way out? You can get a full replacement for under £500. Eg https://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/car- ... t%20System
Centre & rear exhaust silencers, according to the service report.

A mate has said to just leave them until they start blowing, which he reckoned could be months and months away before it starts happening.

Don't forget thatch.

We've all had lovers like that.
Used a good headlight restoration kit today, only £10 off The Amazon too! Started off using sanding pad attached to drill (too small to fit my polisher) but quickly reverted to doing by hand as it was making a few worrying marks. The polishing pad was fine on the drill though so that saved time. Very pleased with it.
Before. Note the weird cloudy dull muck half way up and all way along.
Also! While I was in the region I thought I’d pop some LED side bulbs in. On the passenger side I had to shift some of the air intake out of the way and discovered a bizarre almost full loop trunk! So I took it all out 4 da mad gainz
You could eat your dinner off that headlamp. Unless it's soup, but then who has soup for dinner?
We are taking delivery of a new Renault Zoe next week, testing the waters of electric car ownership. Keeping the yeti, but hoping the Zoe will prove itself of handling all our car needs, depending on how much we end up needing two cars.

Took it for a test drive and pulling away at roundabouts was a fucking delight.

You misspelled soul in a dramatic fashion.
Only Porsche’s have soul.
Alfa Romeo would like a word pls
Best part of leccy car ownership is wafting silently out of parking spaces and shitting up pedestrians.
I'm looking forward to one of those with an motor in each wheel that can turn on a tanner. Not that I'll be able to afford one.
The new Kovmobile

It's practically personalised!

It looks good Kov, how is it to drive?
I never noticed the reg :)

It is fab.. not noticed the drop in engine size. it is a 1.6 instead of 2.0. Will have a play this weekend
Nice motor, dude :)

Both the Celica and the Yaris passed their MOTs today, without any cause for serious concern. All the tyres are apparently close to the limit on the Yaris, though.
I would be a bit miffed if my car failed its MOT at the moment considering it’s gone about 150 miles in 4 months.
Exciting car news!

My claim has finally gone somewhere, the other side is paying my claim in full but isn't accepting liability, so it isn't completely over, but at least I have a very small lump of cash heading my way. (Final steps are for my insurer to start a separate proceeding to get the cost of writing off the car back from them, as they only settled my expenses and compensation. Until that happens it'll have to stay as a fault claim, which is annoying)
It's only taken a year to get to this point...

Good timing, as Donna's parents have offered me their MX5 which they never use. 1998 Mk2 MX5 1.8i S, 29k miles on the clock!, non rusted sills. All for the princely sum of £1k, which I couldn't turn down. So the 3 Series is up on ebay, and i'm picking up the MX5 next weekend.

Looks to be in pretty good condition (check out the carpet on the wall of the garage, always a good sign), and D's stepdad is super anal about buying stuff (Spreadsheets out the wazoo, Vision and Doc would love him), so it would have been researched to an inch of its life prior to purchase.
I'll most likley get rid of the chrome style bar though...
1998 and only 29k? Did he not like his car enough to drive it?
They've owned it for 5 years I think, and only do about 1000 miles a year. Donna's mum can't get in and out of it anymore...
That looks sweet!
Eibach parts are almost half price when ordered straight from the Fatherland! And that’s why there are wheel spacers heading my way.
Fucking hell, that's a billy bargain for 29K on the clock.
Don’t drive it into an 18-wheeler this time please.
