iPlayer

Hmm. iPlayer has changed. I don't think I like it.

Unable to parse the programme page. Possible reasons:
1. The iPlayer has changed
2. You are outside the UK (and not using a UK proxy).
3. The BBC think that you are outside the UK.

FUCKING FUCK OFF >:(
How can you not like it? It's better in every conceivable way. And makes listening to 3hr long radio shows actually feasible.

Looking forward to iplayer-dl updating though, as I only just found out about it.

I haven't really tried using it properly yet. I just opened the page and got overwhelmed with how much content there was. First port of call: make a cynical thread on BETEO.

It'll take a bit of getting used to.
To be fair, it is much better than the old one.
The downloader will work again soon, I'm sure.

What I'd really like is for the listen again (or live streaming) to be offered for the iPhone. And, an easy and reliable way to download the radio shows. There was a thing I used to use on the PC, but in all honesty it was a bit flaky.

I have moderate hopes of one of these happening, on the basis that they're switching from RA to MP3 for the audio stuff, which should make things a lot easier. If not, I'll have a try at hacking it myself.
The iplayer-dl is fixxored! :o
I love the way you get all pissy when things won't work on a Mac, but then request them for the iPhone and not just 'mobiles' :)
yeay! Talking of downloading stuff on the iplayer, here's Stephen Fry's views on the future of the BBC. It's really interesting, and he talks about how his grandma will be breaking drm soon.

ha Grim... got ya. Thats very true.

Though according to the iplayer-dl guy N95 support is on the way.
Bruce vs Stephen Fry's Granny (hang on - his Gran is still alive?) would be awesome :)

I don't really use the iPlayer, but if it started working on my phone I probably would.

Eh?

Umm, well I have an iPhone, and iPlayer is already most of the way implemented for that, I'm just hoping that they complete it. I'm not asking for the moon on a stick.

Nah fixed now.

The developer guy is here. It's a ruby script basically.

I just realised though that the script uses about 50-70% of my iBook's CPU - which means using it to download a show whilst working (ON THE THESIS OF DOOM) to then watch on the office couch (out of reach of the ethernet) hammers my poor little lappy a bit too much :(

If anyone wants to send me a Macbook just PM me for my address ok?

As I said: Eh?
iplayer-dl is a Ruby script that works on any platform. Or none of them, if iPlayer suddenly changes and breaks it.
So that can hardly be construed as being "pissy" about it not working on a Mac, specifically, can it.
It works much more effectively on the iPod Touch (and presumably iPhone) now, which is nice. It's all pretty splendid all round, save for the fact that Mitchell and Webb's Daydream Believers* criminally isn't on there.

(*Their new Radio 2 comedy, a sort of Peep Show meets sketch show affair, it is good.)
