Weekly Forza 2 Time Trials
Week 1 - Tsukuba Short
Reply
Post your best times here. A new time trial will be picked by the winner on Friday 11th July at 9pm.
This just the arcade mode one? Or a sim mode "Use any car" one?
I don't know - perhaps arcade mode would be fairer?
CURSE YOU RED RING OF DEATH.

I started playing Forza again last night (before I noticed this thread) and had made a concerted effort to start unlocking shit again, and then it goes and RRODs on me and now I see this thread. Balls.
Either's good, how about whoever picks, picks. Depends, it's easier for fixed car because then everyone has a chance.

You're this week, you make the call.

I propose fixed cars in arcade time trial with all assists off :D
I'd agree Snappa, but the only thing is it'd alienate people who do use assists. Perhaps if you use assists you have to specify it when posting your time.

Arcade time trial on Tsukuba Short for this week. Go!
Ok, after about 10 laps, my best time is 44.183s with no assists. I'm going to keep trying, but I doubt I'll get much quicker than that.
I will try this with me wheel some time this week.

Which car? You need to set all of the rules in the opening post or this is gonna become a free for all!

Arcade time trial mode fixes your car for you. If this is the first one I think it's a Focus.
No, it's the Top Secret Skyline, I think.
I haven't played this for months - I'll have to dust down my wheel!

I don't mind what car it is as long as it's not that oversteering nightmare that is the drift special car...
So far, force feedback wheel is harder to drive with than joypad, but I'm getting closer to my best. I got 43.8

Edit. Hooray, 43.450

I can't get any better than my previously stated time. Is anyone else going to have a go, or are we going to have to ban AAB?
I've had a go but I remember now that I farkin' hate that S15. I just can't seem to get my brake points right. It was single handedly responsible for stopping my playing the arcade mode time trials.
You have to brake extremely early. Have you tried with assists on?
I don't think they're necessary to be honest. Not even with a joypad.
They will be for some people.
I will be giving this a go during the week. Only got back late tonight.
43.550 on about my forth lap, and no better 20 laps afterward.
I did it in seven secounds.

Do I get a prize?

Yes, you win a dictionary.
I'll have a go at some point. Won't post a competitive score, mind.
My existing time is 0:44:547. I dare say that in the time between posting that and now, I'm capable of over a second a lap faster, but I really don't want to drive that shitheap of a car.

Resoult!

Yep, you'll find that your tyres degrade enough that you won't be able to record a competitive lap time after about 6-8 laps. Just visit the pits and you'll be good to go again.
I will have a go a bit later on.
It is that drift car. Good choice myoptika :S

IIRC I got about 44.952 all assists off and with the wheel and pedals. Daresay I could improve on that by about a second with more practice, but I hate that evil handling piece of shit so I doubt if I will bother.

May I suggest the Lingenfelter for the next car if we're going to deliberately pick vile handling cars to kill my interest in playing this game :DD
Hey, don't look at me; I created the thread, but it was AceAceBaby who initially posted his time in the other Forza thread. It is a difficult car to drive, but then again I suppose it's a challenge to post a decent time.

Perhaps someone else should choose a time trial next week, as AAB has terrible taste in cars. ;)
I propose a yaris round nurburgring for next week just so Db Snappa can play in safety.

So it seems. Obviously a MaxPOWAAAAAAAR subscriber :D Or worse, the masochist's monthly called Hammer Me Nads...

I don't mind, really I just haven't played Forza in ages and that is a particularly nasty car to get to grips with after such a long play gap - unfortunately every time I got close to getting that 'flow' needed to post decent times I caught myself thinking this is the antithesis of fun and stopped playing before I constructed effigies and got my jigsaw out ;)

Also, how do you switch off the ghosts. I fucking hate ghosts.
Me too - does anyone know?

Tell you what, you go for it and post your best time. :DD
Porsche Targas round Nissan Speedway. :P
I posted in B&B only because I was quite pleased at doing a time inside the top 1000 on the leaderboard for what must be the most hated time trial in Forza 2. So by all means blame Myoptika for making a challenge out of it. :p

I will say though that the S15 isn't a bad car to drive, compared to a 1967 F1 car in GP Legends, or an LX6 "Caterham 7" car in Live for Speed, it has oodles of grip.

I didn't think tire wear was on in time trials, interesting. I did a lot of laps, though I don't remember if I was particularly fresh on my personal best. I also don't believe the assists are needed. If anyone is under 46 seconds in that car they don't need them. I always saw assists as something to help deal with the lack of finesse in inputs from joypads, but the MS joypad is excellent. I've played Forza now with a non-FF Madcatz wheel, an MS FF wheel, and an MS joypad. The joypad is in no way harder to use than either wheel in this game. However, I also stand by my belief that it doesn't matter for racing, so long as it means less crashing and wibbling. There isn't any money involved after all. For time trials, I'd like to see people at least try to up their game, but I don't care enough to insist. I'll just know that if I'm within 0.5 seconds of an assisted time, that I'm better. :)

As For Mr Dave- talk is cheap, so put up or shut up, or else we might think you're all mouth and no trousers. Step up to the plate and stand up and be counted. This aint no ten second race. :hat:

This option can be turned off in the, um, options.
I like short courses like this, because if you fuck up, you're trying again very quickly.

I spent (probably literally) days pounding round Autumn Ring Mini in a Cerbera LM in the first GT. Got down into the 25 second bracket eventually, might go back and see how much worse I am now, I do remember being around 30 for some time.
Same with Maple Valley Short, there are only three turns to deal with, which means you can work on them a lot.
I love short courses, also. I sometimes wish we'd do an endurance race on MVS.

Yeah, although Autumn ring mini (before they butchered it in later games) is surprisingly complex with that car (as you can see by the huge time I gained), the last 10 seconds of the lap especially. (iirc, a double right into a very quick double chicane and a long right hander). You always have to slightly sacrifice at least one for the others to be better.

The advantage of stuff like that of course is also that you see cars so much more often, you're lapping or being lapped rather than sitting on your own in a vast expanse of track. It also works for damage since in a long race, you can pit and still have something to fight for.
One of the shorter "snake" tracks has a couple of awful "aha!" chicaney bits that can catch you out. They're all generally hateful and un-flowing, but a good challenge for sure. Road Atlanta has a nice chain of esses you can flow through. Autumn Ring Mini in a Cerbera LM (If I remember that's one of the fastest cars in GT) sounds a handful for sure, though.

I was racing/lapping with my American friend yesterday afternoon. The Mazda Roadster (D298 or something) is a really nicely balanced car with great braking ability. I'd suggest it for a time trial on account of not being hateful. Ideally on a track with some bends in it. The speedway isn't a bad suggestion- if you pick cars that need to slow for the second loop then it becomes a matter of smoothness. Maybe the awful, awful Lingenfelter (way more horrible than the Top Secret S15) would work there. I might see how that goes.
It was one of the quickest, it was 25 seconds of nightmare twitch reactions, awesome, ARM did flow though.

Road Atlanta is a glorious track, if I get a chance to pick it's highly likely we'll be punting round it or it's short version in some kind of LM class.
I think that Cerbera was what I used for the endurance races in GT1 or 2, whichever one it was. Back when endurance racing seemed like a good idea. Everyone used that crazy Suzuki to win easy credits to spend on cars I remember.

I bought Motegi and Road America yesterday. I can't see anyone ever wanting to run them, but I had the points lying around.
I find the Lingenfelter is a useful Class U car once specced right up to max, but only on the speedway circuits.

I love Motegi and RA. It's such a crying shame that I never get to race on them, as they're not in the singleplayer game, and no one else has them on Wednesdays.
Road Atlanta is possibly my favourite track in forza.
Here's the current standings.
Whoo! Second by not much! Go steering wheel crew!
