As a bit of fun, completely optional (and you can all tell me to feck orf), if you want the chance to win a prize* then here's larks:

Post a photo in this thread that contains a representation of William Shakespeare or Vincent Van Gogh, constructed out of items that you have lying around your house.

You mustn't state when posting the photo which of the two people it is representing.

I'll award points for: closeness of the resemblance (assuming I guess the person correctly), ingenuity in the use of household items, and artistry of the photo.

Winner gets the prize ;)

Deadline is 23:59:59 GMT on Friday 18th.

There is actually a prize, but it's probably nothing exciting. Also, it'd require you telling me your postal address.
It has been pointed out that, as well as being a shitpost, the deadline is a bit harsh.

Extended to 23:59:59 GMT next Friday, the 18th.
Look upon my mighty skills and despair, mere mortals!

It's a solid opener from DavPaz there.
May be a little abstract but see what you reckon.
Were they already broken, or did you break them for this specific purpose?
This is how much I love you Gazchap... I tore them off my daughters head and snapped them right there and then in front of her.

They were already broken....
You've already said I can't win because you don't want to be accused of nepotism, but here goes...

For some reason that makes me think of Bryan Cranston more than either of the other two, but at least that answers my boggle about what the hell you wanted with one of my blue shirts.

Reminds me of when I threatened to throw one of my soft toy dinosaurs at my older brother when I was a kid, and he looked me square in the eye and said "if you throw that at me, I will rip it's head off."

He wasn't bluffing.

I'm flattered that you've done a portrait of me but I think it's out of scope here.

I did think of you as I was building it, tbf
This is excellent, and the entries are all excellent. I’ll see if I can find anything later.

Starts off hard, touches moisture, and becomes floppy?
Any more potential entrants (perhaps wishful thinking) are reminded that the deadline is 23:59:59 this Friday ;)
I understand that this is not the remit of the competition, but I’m half way through making this Van Codd portrait of Russell.

It’s to hang in our downstairs toilet/mini art gallery (“The Loovre”) once we’ve finished decorating. It’s a long way to bring finished as I need to broaden the brush strokes and I’m still refining (or, you know, the opposite) my brushes, but the form is there.
The Loovre cracks me up every time I read it :DD
:D

It’s a long way from being finished, but I’ve got a few ideas for the artworks.
Was this so you could train an AI bot you've been building?
Oh yeah, this was a thing wasn't it.

DavPaz's entry: Clearly William Shakespeare, nice use of household objects and some artistry with the pen work and black-and-white photo.

TheVision's entry: Took a second, but clearly Van Gogh. The artistry comes in the interpretation of the household object. Two things let it down -- firstly, if you showed the photo outside the context of this thread, they'd just think it was a photo of some broken headphones. And secondly, they were already broken.

Jem's entry: Clearly Van Gogh, good use of household items, artistry in the photo comes (IMO) from the use of the sheet as the backdrop, rather than just leaving the table.

Mimi's entry: I'm assuming Van Gogh from the full beard (vs goatee) and The Starry Night on the keyboard in the backdrop. Artistry in said backdrop is good, but the blue skin of the Smurf lets it down.

In terms of ranking, I think I'd have to go with:

DavPaz in first place
Mimi in second place
TheVision in third place

Honorable mention to Jem of course, but as she mentioned she was ineligible to enter officially by the Terms And Conditions.

TheVision would probably have stolen the crown if he'd deliberately broken a pair of headphones for the photo, and thus made an intentional (and slightly unhinged) sacrifice in the same way that the man himself did with his ear.

But, you're all winners in my book, so everyone gets a prize! ;) PM me with your postal addresses and await your surprise reward!

(and thanks for playing!)
Yay! That masters in Fine Art finally paying off!
Yay! My kids clumsiness pays off!
Yay! My existence has been merged into being an offshoot of my wife.

Oof.

The toilet tissue was supposed to represent his bandaged ear.
Aaah, shit. Sorry, man, I got confused with Mimi's follow-up post and thought they were both part of the same post.

It looks a bit like he's hanging himself, which is a bit bleak :D

SWAG! Thanks Mr GazChap for my wonderful prize, you generous man!
What a great thread :)
Who's this handsome man? Oh... It's only Ross in his brand new T shirt!

Thanks for the prize GazChap... I love it!
Took me a minute as I tend to read it as Van Goff

Hahahaja! That’s amazing
Woo! Thank you so much GazChap! I love it!
Thank you so much for our gifts, Gaz! I have claimed this one as mine because I love it so much and he is super cuddly.
Either that is much bigger than I thought it was, or…

I'm just far away.
What a lovely thread.

Also, do mimi and russ have Minecraft wallpaper?
Wonderful! Gaz is best present picker. Ross wore this in a quiz last year:

We have 1970s wallpaper that we have painted over temporarily until we can redecorate the room properly :D
I think this particular vintage is circa 1990. The 70s stuff is the orange and brown paper under the anaglypta.
I'm perturbed that JBR has saved screenshots of quiz participants... I wonder how big that folder is?
It's in with quiz stuff, honest - just that one seemed a good idea because it was a funny moment to share with everyone. Then I didn't share it.

None of that screams "I wouldn't do this with screenshots of you all every few minutes just in case you pull a funny face", I realise.
What a brilliant thread! :D
