The Former World

I was part of the WoS forum when Stu announced he was making some elements subscription based and I recall how it lead, in part, to the formation of this forum. I distinctly remember the mood changing overnight within the board and how some WoS members became massive, massive cunts at the thought of having to pay for certain features that were previously free. Stu said he had people trying to dox him and get a hold of his bank records, all manner of rancid things came to light.

You're all still cunts and I hope the people who blustered and threatened over a fucking niche forum get diarrhea.
Welcome! You abrasive knobhead :D
Nice - 10 14 year old hate in a bottle !
Mate, you have missed so much!

Where shall we begin?
Cras got bitten by a crocodile

If that happened it was nothing to do with folks over here. Forming this place and leaving WoS was pretty civil all told. Stu wanted a change, a chunk of the vocal forum members didn't agree with it, exit stage left. Many then kept on using both forums while WoS still existed. There wasn't anything angry about any of it - Stu's even posted here a couple of times, I think. Stu's made a whole lot of enemies over his outspoken opinions, more so on politics than on videogames. I'd look there for your villains.
I reckon it was Gnomes.
I've heard that Mimi is a troublemaker
Are you just going to come in, call us cunts and leave?

I feel used
Yeah, who are you, my therapist?
anyway, it isn't "diarrhea", it's "diarrhoea".
Did you stay and pay?
I stayed and did not pay
No way.

Don't get fresh with me.

I stayed , did not pay but got an exception by doing some dodgy referral scheme so Stu got a free PS3 or something like that (cant quite remember but it was a 'sign up for this casino using this referral link - follow these instructions to get some free money' and it worked)

I was never a member of WoS and joined this forum after it was formed.

Do I still get to be a cunt?
No! Hands off our cunts.
I didn’t even know what WoS was until DoccyG suggested joining here.
I sneaked in through Forza... 3? 4?

It was like Board of Biffo but with a worse leader.
Wasn’t the thing with the bank details/address some entirely different group of people that were investigating the sale of those DVDs full of ripped Amiga games that were being sold from an address in Stu’s block of flats in Bath?

I vaguely recall something along those lines. I think the World of Champions lot had some lingering feelings about Stu that turned nasty around six months before we all decamped. The worst I ever said or did about him was saying that WoS sometimes felt like you were treading on eggshells. Which sent him into a tirade.

Edit: I also vividly recall popping on to RMLLMKLMMLUK and being told to "fuck off Stu fucker". So there's that.

I don’t even know what that is. I think this was the first website based forum I joined. I came from the twitching corpse of usenet

I think there are only half a dozen regular posters on UK games.video.misc these days, and the only post seems to be the weekly play want bin. It's a shame, but times move on!
Does this mean he's a "maybe" for Cottage?

I can totally see why you'd think this was me as I have been known to hold a 14 year grudge (I'm waiting for year 18 before I strike) however, I've been in Nottingham all day today and I have witnesses who will vouch for that so I am totally innocent.

The only newsgroup that I used to post on that still has any life is Uk.rec.motorcycles.

A shame, as Usenet *was* the internet for me for so long.

His travel pieces, especially the one on Imber, were superb pieces of writing.
Somewhere in the multiverse there's a globe-trotting flat-top wearing famous journo with several prestige TV shows, multiple coffee table books, and a sideline in Spectrum games.
We had joy, we had fun, we had coke shandies in the sun.
Coke shandies? Is that a thing? Thought we all had hot vimto
It was another Stu thing, yeah.
I might try it. Probably not though. Eww.
A coke shandy is surely coke and lemonade?
Coke and red wine is a good drink

That’s what it was, yeah.

That sounds awful.
I bet this guy is fun at parties.

Popular in the Basque region, and it's not bad actually. They call it calimotcho (probably spelled differently)

Yeah, trust MaliA. He'll take you adventures.

He’s good for a lock-in anyway (allegedly).
Whenever the spectre of :attitude: is raised I always go hunting for his fabled sandwich, and am always unable to find evidence of it on the interwebs. I recall it involving mars bars, cheese, salt and vinegar crisps, but I can't recall what else. Sounds claggy AF, whatever it is.
