Apex legends
Free to play battle royale
Reply
Apex Legends has been released today, another battle royale game, free to play, on Xbox, PS4 and PC.

Looks mildly entertaining, I'll give it a go for free at least.
Just to add some info: it’s from Respawn (the ex-Infinity Ward peeps) who made the mighty Titanfall 2. Guess what it plays and feels like? A Titanfall 2 battle royals game.

It’s very nice so far.
I have no interest in battle royales... Wait, a Titanfall Battle royale?

Okay, I'll give it a go.

3 man squads if there is any bezzie action on the go.
Not that I've actually played it yet, but folks on the ether are saying it's good.

I mean Titans are fun and all, but they were hardly the high point of Titanfall 2
I played some more of this last night and it was alright but all the areas I went to looked a little...”brown”. I don’t know if I’ve just landed in some bad spots but it certainly doesn’t have the vibrancy of colour and location that, say, BLOPS4 has. And despite it being a Titanfall game in all but name it seemed a little slower than BLOPS too. And where the hell is the wall-running? Wall running was one of the elements of TF2 that made movement feel so fluid. Tch.

But they could be so cool in battle royal! They're hugely powerful killing machines, but you'd be able to see and hear them for miles.
Maybe that's the point - on a wide open map they'd maybe just get hosed by infantry anti-titan weapons before they ever saw anyone. All the TF maps have titan-scale cover and little open ground.
I'll wait for the Small Titans DLC.

There are plenty of dense areas on the map.
Its definitely better than Fortnite. It suffers from the usual battle royale problems, but its fun enough.
It wat wat is it beter than fortnite?

( i guess for my kids it Will dempend on where their friends are)
The weapons are much more fun to shoot. It definitely feels more shootery than Fortnite. I like the different classes too. No stupid building stuff. I also like the way you eject from the dropship as a team, with one player as jumpmaster who decides when to go and basically controls the team as you drop. (You can drop solo or split off if you want.) TTK is a bit more reasonable too.
And the ping system is glorious.

Yeah, that works really well.
It looks like MW2

This feels like a poorly considered knee-jerk nonsense.

First of all, thoughtful people who have played Apex properly are hugely impressed by some of its innovative mechanics like the ping system, the drop leaders, and so on. It's not like Respawn stopped being a bunch of talented devs.

Secondly, although it has loot boxes, they are entirely cosmetic and the core game is f2p. That's not a bad trade-off.

Thirdly, there's more Titanfall stuff to come: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019 ... -the-works
Yeah, I’m afraid I agree. Just because it’s not the game he wanted doesn’t mean it’s lacking in merit. It’s got some decent ideas.

(Double tap ping to skip straight to “baddie there”, by the way)

Mind you, one of his comments about loot boxes refers specifically to Anthem which “is” a full price release with loot boxes. But there’s no point moaning about cosmetic loot boxes and MTXs in a F2P game. These games don’t just arrive with the stalk.

I too played the tutorial.

I think the trick is to write like that and come off as charming instead of Old Man Shouts At Cloud. I don't think the problem is with you.

That appears to be every Star Wars: Battlefront 2 review ever.

Did the tutorial tell you this? I had to read it somewhere. Maybe I missed it then?
I was too eager to play the game so I missed most of the stuff in the tutorial. Then I did it again :)
I did the tutorial. I learned nothing.

I was pissed.
Played the tutorial and then a round, our squad came 6th out of 20, I killed someone.
I had no idea what was going on, where I was, where anyone else was at any point, what any of the items I picked up were, what they did, or how I used them.

So... fun?
My team won the second ever game I played of this! (by basically hiding)

Welcome to the wacky world of battle royales!
We completely randomly spawned in the same game as APoD, Grim..., and Doc. So we all met up. And we killed them

I'm so painfully bad at it.
I'm just not sure it is fun. It is like playing Minecraft for 10 minutes, then someone invading and shooting you.

And those were the only three kills we got all match :DD
At the moment I generally prefer the CoDBlOps version of the Battle Royale, because of the vehicles and it having more of a familiar feel (I don’t think AL really feels much like Titanfall).

Need to play it a bit more to get the hang of the guns, because I couldnt hit anything. Must have fired about a hundred sniper shots without hitting anything, and the LMGs seem to have massively high recoil. Just about getting the hang of it though.
I think I agree. But it's not free to play, so....

That's the Battle Royale Experience™.

Although if you want excitement, deliberately drop in a big group. Scrambling for weapons and throwing punches and 'nades because that's all you got in a big melee is pretty fun.

I do wonder what will happen when someone makes one of these where you start with a solid weapon. Like a decent pistol or something.
They should make one like 'gun game' from blops.

Indeed. It engenders tension. But I'm not one to overly equate tension to fun.
Also, WTF no killcam?

Nah.

I retract all of my comment. My humble apologies for wasting your time.
Wookie, col and I got second, 23:50 survival time and one kill.
I got a second, three kills, basically on my own because the rest of my squad died before the first circle collapse.

Twats.

Good.

But seriously, the CoDBlOps one just shows your death when you die permanently. I found it useful.
