I've bought THE BOY a 2DS for his sixth* birthday and I'm looking for recommendations for games to go with it. There are a *lot* to choose from and I've never been a Nintendo guy, so I'm not sure where to start. It came with Mario Kart 7 built in.
THE BOY is well good at reading and stuff, so we don't have to worry about educational games and he's pretty good at the basic platforming stuff that we've played on the Retropie. He really likes playing the Farmville-alike Dragon City on the iPad, so something where he can browse through something with lots of characters would be ace.
Give me a clue, Beex, as I have none of my own.

Wario Ware Gold! It's the game you can literally give to anyone and they'll have fun with it.
GTA V, Sniper Elite 4 and Dead by Daylight.

You can't go wrong with any of the Mario Bros platformers. They're all ace on the 3DS and don't forget that you can play DS games on it too.
Does he like Pokemon? Detective Pikachu is meant to be good from what I've read.
Also, Luigi's Mansion 2 is one of the most charming, delightful games I've ever played. The first one is due out on the 3DS soon so that could be worth considering too.

I reckon that's a given. I'm willing to pick up some 2nd hand DS games for him. It's not like he'll know the difference

Also, if you ever feel like playing on it. I can heartily recommend Kid Icarus Uprising. It's one of the best games I've ever played you know!
Of the 3DS (and 2DS) games that sell on my site, the Professor Layton ones always seem the most popular, so could be worth a look too.
Personally, I think they might be a bit hard for a 6 year old (And no, it's not because I had problems with some of the puzzles)

Ah, that's a fair point. I've not played them myself. In fact, the only one I've played lately is this -
and I don't think a six-year-old is going to really appreciate the games in there.

You'd be pleasantly surprised. Almost all of his gaming experience has been on the Retropie, so he likes 80s and 90s games.
I've just noticed that the Lego Star Wars games are on the DS. That's the level he's currently at, with a little help on the set pieces.

There's not much between them I think so I think I would just be looking at the cheapest.... Although, good luck. They seem to hold their price quite well.
Incidentally, if you're looking at teaching him how to type, you can't go wrong with this.

The bluetooth keyboard is lovely and works with anything that can accept such a keyboard. Shop around though... I got mine for £8 from Argos.

Typing of the Dead: Overkill surely? Why just have zombies when you can have zombies and ridiculously gratuitous swearing. Perfect for a six year old.
