Paragraph 9

Oh, yeah, I'm stupid.

That was before they had any info though, so I'm not surprised the Garda didn't do anything. They don't have the time or expertise to investigate this sort of thing. The same thing happened with that lady who got stalked and abused after she posted something positive about an X Factor contestant.
Maybe, but my cyniscm makes me think that the story was written because of a "see, I'm a nice
guy" one rather than "People are dicks". Changing "the authorities" to "the garda" also seemed out of place.

And it's two words. Stupid Internet.
At least I know it's two separate words.

And yours, you.

Right, that's sorted.
It's in the Guardian now.

EDIT: not just me then, from the comments:

Quote:
At the risk of being accused of trolling, this story doesn't seem plausible to me. It smacks of attention seeking. Why does everyone nowadays feel the need to share the details of there lives with all and sundry?

If it is a true account of what happened then my sympathy is with you. That kid was awful but TBH I think you should have alerted such behaviour to the authorities because if he is doing it to you he will go on to do it to others.
"there lives"

And from someone professing to be a lawyer, from their username. Good grief.

Not going into specifics (probably lieing), but the twitter bandwagon does more harm than good, I think. I'm fairly sure I've written of this before, but new examples have come to light. I think the poltiics of twitter's users lies to the left (maybe demographics, I dunno, more research needed). Sometimes, I think the abdwaggoning of things on it are ugly and downright rude. By and large, I don't think that someone should be berated for their support of the GOP or the stupid party, not by baying hrose through 140 characters. It's inelegant. And stuff.

BOOM!

Ahead of the zeitgiest once again.

Could be.

Scumbag dogshit wonky bastard Nick Griffin of racism fame has just posted the address of the gay couple who won the case against that Bed & Breakfast, along with a lovely threat.

Quote:
So Messrs Black & Morgan, at <snip> Road. A British Justice team will come up to <snip> & give you a bit of drama by way of reminding you that an English couple's home is their castle. Say No to heterophobia!
Christ, that's vile.
Horrendous... hopefully that does actually constitute a crime that he can be in trouble for? Is there any such thing as "heterophobia" anyway? (leaving aside the fact that wanting a room in a b&b hardly constitutes a phobia of anything)
I'd look very fucking closely at s127 of the Communications Axt. If people are going to prison over comments about dead children then sonwthing like that should ve looked at very closely. It got a nention on PM when the xouple were interviewed.

I think the thing that irks me most about loons like Griffin is that they win whichever way you cut it; when they get shut down/arrested or whatever, they shout that it is a mainstream conspiracy to stop them speaking some uncomfortable home truths and challenging "political correctness" and whatnot and it just strengthens their credentials amongst those who were dumb enough to fall for their odious schtick in the first place. The only way to really beat them is to laugh at them and not take them seriously, like a forum troll, but when the stuff they say is so vile and you know some people buy it on some level then it's so hard not to rise to it.

Shit. Publishing their address, while scummy, probably isn't a crime, but the implied threat of a visit from his heavies to "give them a reminder" is clearly a breach of the law on, um, doing bad stuff.

OOps
I heard yesterday that Twitter are introducing an archive feature. You'll soon be able to download your history of tweets.
Fuck, I hate Twitter from what I've seen of it (which admittedly, is very little and I don't have an account myself).

I guess mate, but to me it just seems like a forum for people with too much time on their hands to shout angrily at each other, either that, and/or else spout the most banal stuff about the last sandwich they just ate or whatever? I'm probably being very unfair to it, but that's just how it seems to me.
Yeah, but enough about this place.. What about Twitter?

Twitter and social media prosectutions guidelines. So, that is clear, then.

I wonder if that is in any way related to that Lords vote on removing 'insulting' from the Public Order Act.

Sounds like you're following the wrong people. You're accountable for that, not Twitter ;)
Is there a way to block someone retweeting stuff which fills your timeline? I'm following a guy from work and he keeps retweeting mundane shit that I'd rather not read.

Stuff like "watching Cheryl cole. God she's got nice eyes" or "if she's too tight with your mates.. DROP HER OUT" or even "traffic wardens cant (sic) go to heaven its impossible"

Annoying, don't you think?

In Twitter click on the name of the offender and this will bring up the window with their last 3 tweets. Next to the Following text there is a little 'down arrow' click on that and there is an option to "Turn Off Retweets". See if that works.
Some clients (Tweetbot, for one) allow blocking of a person's re-tweets of different users.

Or that! Sorry, I somehow missed this because I only looked at the preview, which only showed what you'd quoted. Plus your answer is far better.

I think it has been a while coming. Although, after reading a few bits about these guidelines, I'm still not sure about what can, or can't be said if you don't wish to end up in front of the judge. Can we make jokes about missing children and poor parenting skills now, or not? It is clear you can say what Griffin said, so that is OK, but where is the line?

Oh, as I said before, I'm not 'following' anyone - I don't have an account at all. My total experience of Twitter amounts to about 10 minutes' worth of looking at random stuff as a non-user.

Also like I said originally however, I'm probably being unfair to it, but I have precisely zero interest in getting involved anyway, so hey.
I like Twitter because there's lots of people who post/used to post on Beex on there.
Everyone should like Twitter because I'm on it.
You need to get a picture in your header. Unless that black, bezel type background IS your picture?

Meh, a few people I recognise there. :)
(Including a certain Ghost of Christmas Past :D )

Not for me though; I spend enough time on the forum, let alone yet something else to distract me. :)
