Cheap Gaming Rig
Budget wonder - £500 or under
Reply
Fuck that's a sweet sub heading.

Can this be done?! A gaming PC that will run new games half decently for a paupers price?

Thrill me up.
(But, aye, I think should be doable for that price),
Ryzen 2200G etc. Are you self building?
Do you need to run it as a home office machine too? Mayber Craster could help, I hear he's looking to buy something new.
This comes with an i3 and a 1050ti. Slightly over budget but it would definitely play most new stuff at decent settings.

Just an idea at the moment, would need to scrimp and save. Just need an idea of what to look out for. Thanks for everything so far.
murder some cryptominer after he leaves the shop with some overpriced graphic card and steal it. You'll help the environment along the way.
Keep an eye on the Dell Outlet section for desktops. Maybe a lower end XPS system, or one of the cheaper Alienware systems.

OK, will do.

Just looked that chip up. pretty impressive, amazing bang for buck.

I need to try and get this chip in our next PCs in the office ;)
Incidentally, I was planning on getting a £400-500 pc for network game testing and a few other off board tasks. If you haven't got this by then, I'll post my findings as to its performance then.
Cool ta.

This thread is so much more positive than Crasters.

That's because literally no one buys a PC unless it's to play games. You'd just get a Mac instead.

Hello! I'm done with Macs and would buy a PC now by choice, games or no games.

Same, I was just trying to wind Cras up. Good job ruining that!

Everyone that I ever met ever since the dawn of time used PC's and not mac's.

My brother in law works in video edition, and his colleagues made fun of him at his first day at work because he was the only one using a PC laptop.

I don't know the moral of this anecdote. Maybe that I'm glad i'm not into video editing.

(i once had a job that forced me to use a macbook air. I hated the thing and never got used to it. All those finger gestures seemed like too much effort. Just let me be lazy and rest my hand on a simple 2 button mouse, like I use to do since 1990)

You want mine?
Since so much software is platform independent these days, only zealots still evangelise OSs. The 5k retina iMac is a thing of beauty though. Haven't had a go with the iMac pro yet, but it's just a matter of time.
The design guys actually try and convince me that one button mice are superior. Numpties

I work with Apple shit every day. Apple are utter cunts and everything they produce is seemingly designed to infuriate me in every conceivable way. Except their hardware, which is lovely so long as you can replace the OS.

I only have an iPad Pro now. I have two Windows PCs and an Android phone.
I like that you've gone from raging against the megacorps stealing your privacy to basically sharing your personal info with as many as possible.

It's amazing how quickly your objection to data sharing dissipates when you have no money. I even complete surveys for cash now. :DD
Have yours started going weird? Mine asked me the other day if I was recently at Lancaster City Hall.

My latest one was a video of a cow and it asked me what I saw and heard on the video.

Is this the company you work for/used to work for? Are you even in the same industry now?
I really hope valve one day invest large sums of money into a WINE like solution for playing your entire Steam library, on Linux, including games with no native Linux version.

Last time I used WINE, it was functional but fiddly, and performance took a big hit.
Linux is pointless except for servers.
Servers are quite a big deal, though.

Where did I say it wasn't? You're forgetting where I used to work. :D

Sure. What do you feel like playing?

Yeah, but they're someone else's problem. Just like sewer pipes or electricity lines - as long as they work, then most people probably don't really care to know any detail.

And if you are that someone else, thanks for maintaining the servers for us
