Well. That's a tasty set of scores.
Well, there goes my first launch day order of this gen.
We're being thrown a bunch of really great games at the moment, practically unheard of for this time of the year. Nioh, Resi 7, this, Nier Automata, Mass Effect...
Things that lead me to believe that this won't be for me:

Checklist of things to do in an open world.
I've got absolutely no faith in Guerilla being able to write a good story with memorable characters and decent dialogue.
How dare you, that game series what they did, with the gasmasks and everything... That was dead memorable. What was it called?
I've changed my mind, it looks hilarious. It's filled with crackheads apparently.

At long last, a game about cavemen versus robots.
I'm sure I'll be picking this up at some point, but has a less memorably named game ever been made? It's an absolute wispy lift fart of a name.

It sounds like it was named by Hideo Kojima, that's how awful it is. The actual game looks good though.
I fancy this game

Don't be shy then, ask it out
I have to work up to it..

I will start with admiring glances
Hustle up there, be loud, tell it it has shitty graphics and the gameplay sucks, keep that up, then say the control scheme is great.

Ok Roosh!
Kov and Horizon Zero Dawn sitting in a tree,
He's downloading DLC.
I think the advert on the telly for this is rubbish.
Well, what I've played is pretty damn good.
I had a blast on this earlier before loading up GTA. I like it! It's well pretty, and the premise seems fun. A bit much stealth at the moment, hopefully that'll reduce as I get more skillz.
How many Titans did you steal?
I did not steal any titans
To be fair, there are some nights in GTA where our Titan thievery success rate is that low.
Not on my watch. :attitude:
I don't think I've been in a session where we've not got it at least once.

Well no, because the session wouldn't end otherwise.
Last night I met a tallneck. They are fucking impressive.
Dutch mainstream media just discovered it's a dutch studio, and suddenly it is everywhere... (even at the society gossip programs)
I'm in Dutchland now! Yay the Dutch.
It's like FarCrySkyrim's Creed. It's the greatest hits of the open world 'em up. And it's great!
I do like this a lot, I must say. And they've done an amazing job with the dinobots.
This game clearly shows its far cry influences. From collectibles, to 'radio towers', to 'strongholds' and the weapon wheel, it's full of reused mechanics. That's no bad thing though, they're all mechanics that work well. Combat is a fun combination of stealth and action, with plenty of scope for well thought-out tactics and also the ability to not really bother and just go in bludgeoning.
It's so very pretty, too.

I have a robot horsey!
The 'radio towers' are a bit more interesting though.
Well yes, indeed.

Also, did I say it was pretty? It''s actually stunning. I've never seen graphics like this on the PS4 before. I almost want to spend more time in camera mode than playing the game.

Only grouch so far is that the AI for human opponents is astonishingly dumb. What's that? There's a whistling noise coming from that pile of long grass with a suspicious pile of the bodies of my friends piled up next to it? I'd better go investigate on my own.
Better graphics than Uncharted 4?
I think so yes, in everything except facial animations. Which, given that UC4 is completely scripted, doesn't seem unreasonable.
It's a game with stealth in, the enemies have to be as dumb as rocks.
You normally at least need to hide bodies and the like though.
Fucking Ravagers. Also Fucking Glinthawks. I've seen a Thunderjaw but was too fraidy-cat to engage.
I'm okay with Glinthawks. I took down a thunderjaw with a fully loaded firecaster, in no hurry to do it again though.
Stormbirds can fuck off.

naughty
I'm coming up to the end of the story, and I've loved every minute of the 40 or so hours I've racked up.
I borrowed this from Craster, and I'm really, really enjoying it.

Kicked the shit out of a Thunderjaw with a bow and arrow last night, OORAH.

There's not a lot to dislike about this game. The name is stupid, sure. Thinking a bit harder: the lip-syncing is terrible and selling stuff to merchants is a pain in the arse and Aloy could do with a few more "spear" moves, but literally everything else about it is excellent.

And you don't even need to know that because fucking robot dinosaurs.

I was about twenty hours in when I finally decided to get the "Lure" skill.

Bit of a gamechanger, that one

Whatever floats your boat dude.
Aloy is a rather attractive collection of pixels.

Voiced by the also very attractive Ashley Birch of HAWP and Tiny Tina fame:

This is definitely one of my two games of the year (Nex Machina being the other).
I'm 40+ hours in, having finished the main campaign and now I'm carrying on wrapping up all the side missions and errands which is very unusual for me in a single player. Normally I'm looking to move on to the next game quite quickly.
I've only recently acquired this. It's good is it not!

I suspect the combat becomes a little unwieldy later so I'm paying close attention to my upgrades and I may sneak around first and try and get all the power cells for the invincibility armour...
