This might well be covered by that video, which I'm yet to watch, but I often wonder whether Ian Bell is bitter towards David Braben about his success or anything.

Part 6 (starts about the 45 minute mark) - tries to cover the fallout from both sides of view
I'm quite sure all is not as it seems with this but interesting anyway

If I hadn't already got a Pandora's Box thing, I'd be seriously tempted to buy this one

I read that a couple of days ago and it reminded me of when snes emulation first started, and how Pilotwings (and Mario Kart) were amongst the games that didn't work because of the dsp-1 chip.
I remember visiting Daves Classics every day to see if snes9x or zsnes had been updated to support it.

Not sure I ever remember watching the demo though.

The order of the demos seems to be randomised too (or at least different between the two cart types). I have two copies of the game at the moment and the plane demo was the fourth one up and it landed fine. Second copy, the plane demo was third and it crashed.
Arcade Club's Leeds site will be opening this month. Still no exact date though.

On a smaller scale, Retroids in Worcester is expanding soon.
It is pacman! In the stockholm subway

Ace.

That reminds me, there is a game I'm thinking of but I can't remember the name.

It was a single screen platformer like Snow Bros but your character had a back pack that would suck up the enemies.

It may have been an Amiga game now I think of it.

Any ideas?

Tumblepop

Hmmm.. It could be that but I think the characters were more cartoony. Maybe clowns?

Or maybe my mind is tricking me.
Didn’t Super Methane Brothers have sucky-up backpacks?

Some of the enemies in Tumblepop were clowns

And so was one of the bosses

Maybe watch a video of it being played and see if the music / FX remind you

I’ve won free admission for two people to Arcade Club in Leeds on their opening weekend, plus food and a couple of drinks each.
Annoyingly I may now have other plans for that weekend.
Congratulations... I reckon they'd be easy to get rid of though. ;)

Yep, if I can’t make it, I’m sure a new home could be found.

They did.... sort of. sucky guns, little in the way of backpacks.

A chum of mine has done a video review of Arcade Club. (This is the chap who made the intro for my channel, and he was one of the earliest members of the fruit machine emulation scene.)

He has also challenged me to a game of Point Blank, which he will lose because I am toweringly magnificent at Point Blank. And also modest about it.

Two new arcade 1-up cabs announced
Quote:
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will feature two games:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1989)
Turtles in Time (1991)

The Marvel Super Heroes machine will provide three games:

Marvel Super Heroes,
X-Men Children of the Atom,
The Punisher
Says here they’re about 4’ tall.

Next 1up cabinet is the classic Atari Star Wars games
That's interesting. Something you can't play properly on Mame is way more tempting
Is it a proper vector projection screen, or is it rasterised?

If it includes ROTJ it can't be Vector

Shame. I didn't think it would be, of course but we can live in hope :D

Yesterday I went to the Arcade Club in Bury and had the place to myself for reasons.

I went there today! I enjoyed the mental Japanese table-flipping game.
I played Chase HQ and Turbo Out Run for over an hour last night, I think they're two of the most perfect arcade games ever.

I can often finish Chase HQ on a single credit, but not always, sometimes the traffic patterns just screw you up and cause mistakes to be made.

Turbo Out Run I've never finished but I'm getting better at it and I think I'll be able to complete it soon. (Continues aren't allowed.)

Continental Circus is one I can endlessly replay as well. (TRIVIA - It should have been called CONTINENTAL CIRCUIT but something got a bit lost in translation....)
This has all the hallmarks of being a record sale price for a Speccy game:

He’s also doing the DYKG Extra this week too. He painfully reads out reams of text from Alien Breed until I stabbed cotton buds through my ear drums.

Ashens !

I thought that was pretty shit actually, I've enjoyed Ashens stuff in the past but this just didn't work for me
No idea if it's any good, but The King of Arcades was added to Amazon Prime Video this week. Might be of interest to some.
Out chinny Chinnyvision with 17 different versions of Outrun

Got 1 minute and 53 seconds into that video and knew it wasn’t for me. Amateur hour. Literally an hour.
New candidate for the first easter egg in a video game (same year as Starship 1 but probably beats it by a few months)

That's really cool zaphod, cheers for the link :) I love stuff like this. (The nerdier the better.)

I like that the game author's son also posts in the thread. :)

This week I have another great interview from 1988 with Fukio "MTJ" Mitsuji, the legendary developer of Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Island! He discusses the design of both games, as well as his lesser-known early titles Super Dead Heat and Halley's Comet. http://shmuplations.com/bubblebobble/
