Star Trek: Bridge Crew (Oculus, Vive, PSVR)

It's co-op, so one player is the captain, one tactical, one helm, one engineering, you use VR hand controllers to interact with those LCARS panels... and. You. Fly. The. Freaking. Ship.

(Really charming trailer, too, with some of the Star Trek cast playing the game, and looking genuinely excited not just I'm-being-paid-to-look-excited.)
I saw that on Reddit yesterday and, oh man, it looks ace.

Obviously, the local multiplayer is impractical for most though. I wonder what netplay would be like.

It's VR, by definition I don't care about local multiplayer :) I see no reason netplay won't work.
Just took delivery of a Vive at work yesterday :)

This will be very popular in our IT dept when it comes out!
Yeah, that looks fucking incredible. Not so sure about the cost to play it, though :)

Do the headsets have built-in microphones?
Holy crap, that looks awesome! Will it run properly on a PS$?

Cras as helm, me as engineering, Curio as tactical, you as captain DREAM TEAM BABY
I'm not convinced "open fire" is going to be the answer to everything.

But only if you don't open fire fast enough.
"Should I go to Red Alert, Captain?"

"WHY ARE WE NOT AT RED ALERT ALREADY WHY ARE THERE OTHER ALERT MODES WHY DOES THIS TIN CAN CUNT EVEN HAVE THOSE BUTTONS"
"IT NEEDS ONE GREAT BIG BUTTON MARKED 'FUCK SHIT UP' THAT WE CAN ALL REACH. FUCKING SHOOT, CURIO!"
We have to fucking buy this.

Note also that I have optimised for maximum lollage at your criticism of Craster's driving.
"What are you talking about, of course this bitch will barrel roll"
Please live stream this when it happens.

We had a GTA game once, the two-on-two mode where each pair consists of a driver (in a 60s muscle car, racing the other driver) and a blocker (in a huge armoured truck, trying to stop the other driver and protect their own driver.) It was Grim... (driver) and Cras vs me (driver) and Curio. Grim... was completely irate, screaming at Cras, demanding he be in two places at once, I was laughing so hard I forgot how to breath, tears running down my face. It was great.
"YOU HAVE ONE FUCKING JOB. ONE. STOP GAYWOOD AND KEEP RILES AWAY FROM ME. YOU CAN'T EVEN DO THAT."

I was on mad rant form that night.
Oh yeah, it was Riles, not Curio.
It was fucking amazing.

"THAT'S TWO JOBS! TWO FUCKING JOBS!"
"JUST STOP FUCKING ARGUING WHEN YOU SHOULD BE DOING YOUR JOB!"
My life would be immeasurably better if it involved:

This game

More GTA
This game. This game is fucking amazing. Everyone get it. Oh my god.
Jesus shitting christ.

Predicta-LOL at the cost completely not putting you off.

So I don't know if you can Twitch VR but maybe you can?

Also: we had the game hours before America, we could have been streaming sensations! Dammit!
It was just brilliant.

Totally forgot about live streaming. Next time, though, fo sho.

It cost me £37. I can deal with that.
Is this out now? Time to buy!

Not only is it out, but it supports PSVR/Vive/Rift cross play!

Wow, I did not expect that.

Oh shit, son. This suddenly became tempting, on the grounds that I have lots of PSVR people to play with and don't have to wait around for hours for the only other Rift owner in the UK to logon ;)

Sony opened up cross platform play a while back, but I can't think of a single game that supported it until now. Makes obvious sense for a VR co-op game though, given how small even the combined install base is.

I am totally sold on VR presence as an enabler for co-op play. Looking over and seeing Cras pushing buttons (or giving me the finger), and hearing Grim...'s voice barking orders from the captain's chair behind me, worked perfectly.

You should get it and come play with the Yes! Chef!s

warning gaming with the Yes! Chef!s contains 350% of your RDA of petty squabbling and toilet humour
I wouldn't have an episode of Star Trek any other way.

Oh yeah, it makes all the sense in the world; I'm just still at the point of being pleasantly surprised when companies actually implement this sort of positively non-partisan stuff.
This sounds pretty cool! It would probably also work pretty well for other, similar stuff. Crew on a WWII torpedo boat! Tank crew! Something else I can't think of!

'Office Worker VR' - Experience the thrill of working in an office, from home!
I got a cheevo for driving through an asteroid field without scratching the paint so I reckon I'd also be really good at Driving Real Cars, Myp Edition.

This will be with me tomorrow.
In a shock to us all, we're actually getting quite competent at this.

We just managed a stealth mission, for God's sake.
We didn't just manage it, we bossed its face off
err, I take it Grim... can't fire the weapons, then??
You're good at it already? That sounds boring :(
Bobbyaro wrote:

I tell people when to fire weapons.

I'm surprisingly restrained.
Lonewolves wrote:

It's not an especially deep game nor a long one, which I think is a point worth stressing. I'm guessing VR's install base is still too small to justify anyone spending the money needed for longer games. Also, we also completely failed two missions last night -- if you fuck up your strategy, the game is going to happily hand your ass to you.

Having said that, we're five or six hours in and we're only good at our own roles right now. We've been sticking to one bridge position each. I have no idea what helm or captain even do, and I'm worse at being engineering than Jacket. If all I get from this is 20 hours of amazing co-op play for £40, I'm down with that.
Also the next campaign mission (four of five, they take 20-30 minutes each) has a description which makes it sound like the difficulty might be about to ramp up.

Oh, and we haven't had a go at flying the TOS Enterprise yet, other than to start it up and laugh and laugh at how difficult it looks to pilot. Instead of elegant touchscreens, you have dozens of abstract, unlabelled, randomly coloured buttons!
I should be free tonight if anyone's around. I'll buy it later. :)
Note that getting the cross-platform multiplayer going will involve figuring out the uPlay based matchmaking, so we're gonna have to boldly go where no man has gone before.
