Is this online multiplayer only or is there a single player campaign? It does look interesting but it also looks like one of those games where everyone else will be better than me.

You can play against bots if you like. My manager has this and he's not actually all that impressed. Says the beta for the new Unreal Tournament is much better.
Oh yeah, new Unreal Tournament. I'd forgotten about that. I think I shall play Doom for now and wait for that.
I put a fair wedge of time into it on the final beta, and was impressed enough to pre-purchase the full game, which I've been enjoying very much since it was released.
It's fantastic fun, demands proper team play, but generally speaking you can get a good game with randoms. Far better if you're teamed up with chums though.
Seems quite simple on the surface but there's a lot of tactical depth to it, the nature of the game changes completely depending on what characters your enemy are running with, so the entire feel of the game can change more than once in the space of a single round if people are switching their characters around enough.
Typical Blizzard shine, it looks and sounds absolutely gorgeous, and they've hit 60FPS on both consoles as well.
Blizzard have promised that all future content for the game will be free, with only cosmetic items costing further cash on top of the purchase price of the game.
There's also no progression system in terms of gear/power ups/weapons, levelling up just unlocks loot boxes which contain only cosmetic items. So a Level 1 character has exactly the same power level, weapon loadout, abilities etc as a Level Capped character.

My thoughts: It'd be great if it was a movie, shame about the game. It IS TF2 with a bunch of different characters. Although this one includes a character with an assault rifle at least.

If you are interested they have had a number of 'free' weekends for it (around one a month or so) where you can just download the game and play for free
The current one was this weekend (just passed) - but does not finish until midnight PST (so early hours of tomorrow morning our time) which means you can download it now - play it for free

Super fun game, I like to play with my friends who are all ridiculously high ranked but they get mad because they can't play ranked with me because I'm unranked because I never play the placement matches.

We did have some good games. There were a couple of games where we were facing a wall of fire yet still managing to inch forward to the objective - those were great.
T'is the first competitive online game I've enjoyed for the game rather than just for the people I'm playing with for a very long time.
