I’m playing this annnnnd, it’s not very good. I
Im on PS4 and it’s crashed once and I had to do a hard reset due to a bug that wouldn’t let me select anything from the NPCs. I didn’t lose any progress but still I shouldn’t have to do this at all. Actually I had another bug where I was climbing an early big enemy and was expected to extract a sword from a giants body but it wouldn’t let me and the boss just stood there motionless for about 2 minutes before it knew it’d fucked up and just instantly died on me.
It’s got an amateur feel about it.
Really fucking annoyingly though it fails to register some button presses and your character doesn’t feel very responsive at all. After playing Uber responsive Dead Cells this feels terrible to play.
The graphics are just alright but they feel “cheap”. After Cuphead, Dead Cells and a load of pixel art games there’s something “off” about the entire presentation. Remember Moonstone on the Amiga? The graphics just reminded me of that and whereas I remember that game quite fondly (just for the gore and atmosphere really) seeing a game in 2018 that looks unintentionally like a 16-bit game isn’t doing it any favours.
I’m going to crack it just cause it’s bloody difficult and something is interesting about it but I’m not really enjoying it. It’s certainly not “fun”. It’s got some good things going for it - like it’s a bit Dark Souls ish. Actually it rips off the sound effect when you start the game. And the story also starts with ring two bells one high and one below - I mean, come on, get your shit together game. There’s some good boss fights though, some interesting mechanics - some for dying and healing, some nice art here and there, the world feels quite good, some of the music is fitting, there’s a load of individual story flashbacks when you die and so on.
Play Salt & Sanctuary instead. It pisses all over this.
