Better Call Saul
's all good, man.

Holy crap on a cracker, episode 5!
Episode 6 was necessarily a bit of a step down from Episode 5 in terms of intensity, but nonetheless a very engrossing 45 minutes of telly.

Saul Goodman appears for the first time.

Good review here:

As Better Call Saul enters the home stretch of this season and the Breaking Bad references become more and more prevalent it’s becoming clear that the end of this show (and the beginning of the previous one) is slowly coming into sight. The pieces are in place that will create the world Walter White will come to dominate. Now the biggest question is what will happen to the characters we see no sign of when Walt walks into Saul’s office for the first time.
I love the show, but when it leans hard into being a breaking bad sequel is the weakest part.
Yeah, but it's brilliant at being a prequel.

They have already stated they may carry on BCS as a sequel once they get up to the start of BB.
Very effective episode I thought (S03E07).

We're now seeing a real transitional phase for Jimmy, fascinating to watch (him putting him the boot into Chuck at the end via the insurance company was genuinely nasty), and also the first cracks in his situation with Kim. Lovely scenes with Mike too and the grief-stricken widow.

As ever, thoroughly splendid stuff.
Yeah.

Really well done how they've shown Jimmy trying his best to keep things ticking over but getting squeezed into taking the inevitable dodgy path.
I've just started watching this... it's really rather good. I figured if Hearthly AND gaywood liked it, it must be good. And I've got three series to enjoy! Yay!
Your bar is terrible.
No, your bar is terrible. And your face.
So that's Season Three drawn to a close and it was, of course, most excellent.

We've still got a way to go between the world of BCS and BB though, I just hope everyone in the cast lives long enough for it to happen, and IMO they need to start tying up some loose ends pretty sharpish and leading us on into the BB world. (I've already decided I'll rewatch all of BB once BSC finishes.)

Whilst it'd be nice to have two more seasons, my personal feeling is they should try and get it all done in Season Four. (Which AMC haven't even renewed it for yet......)

Chuck dead though! :(

Will be doing the same :)

Last episode was pretty good

Shame to see chuck loose it and die after he had secured a payoff in the millions and appeared to be ok.

Have to wonder if Jimmy will get his class action money, I would say not, as surely he would not be doing the cheap arsed lawyer work he was in BB if he had picked up a million dollars?

Well that's the point with Chuck, he'd basically lost everything, as HHM was everything to him. He didn't need more money as he was already fairly wealthy, he wanted back in at the firm but Howard outmanoeuvred him by coming up with the cash, which Chuck knew the firm didn't have so wasn't expecting, but Howard bought him out with his own cash and loans. Chuck's final show of power was to belittle Jimmy, 'You were never that important to me', and with Jimmy gone, Chuck had nothing.

As for Jimmy's Sandpiper settlement, he gave it up because he could see what he'd done to Irene at the home, he thought he'd be able to get the other ladies back on-side after he'd secured Irene going for the settlement, but they wouldn't budge. As such he sacrificed the settlement to save Irene.

I thought that Jimmy was just trying to push the Sandpiper settlement early rather than wait for the money? I figured that he will still get paid out at some point in the future when the case gets settled?

I can imagine that there will be drama linked to what happens to Chuck's money, I wonder whether his will would say Jimmy can get his money if he does [x]. Or maybe HHM interferes and gets the bulk of his money, and maybe offers Jimmy some of it if he agrees to [y].
Oh yes and Kim's bottom in those pyjamas. That was nice.

I was certainly 'seeing the horn'.

I was wondering about that....

I'm not aware that Jimmy and Chuck have any other family so you would think Jimmy would get the money.

But last night before he told Jimmy 'You were never that important to me' he was doing paper work at his desk so I wonder if he was cutting Jimmy out of his will.

Right. I doubt he would cut him out entirely. It'll be "you have to do something that means I get the last laugh in order to get the money", Jimmy will just refuse because he doesn't need the money, but then circumstances will develop that he needs the money (to help Kim with something), and have to do whatever Chuck wanted in the end. Somehow his relationship with Kim will become fractured and he'll begin his full on descent into Saul Goodman.
I'm a few eps into series 2. Oh my god this continues to be brilliant. Kim is just awesome as a character. I would definitely hire her.

Must admit I wasn't giving much thought to her CV....
Mmmm. Tall blondes
And if we're going in that direction, who the hell wants anyone under 30?
Superb season finale.

Aw man, now the wait is on.
I hope they wrap it up this season, before key cast members start to die.

Also, MORE BETTER CALL SAUL!

They have mentioned they may go past BB's timeline so BCS bookends it. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Well that's literally already happened, albeit only for a total of a few minutes across BCS's run so far.

I mean actual seasons focused on it after they wrap up the prequel.
Better Call Saul - Season 4 is out!
One a week or all at once?
Muskerhounds are always ready!

There's fucking only one fucking episode!

First world problem ahoy.

EDIT - I think it was always one per week though wasn't it. Even so. Fucking.
It's a cable show, not a made-by-Netflix show. So it airs once per week.
Pretty sure we did this last year.
It does naughtily state it's a Netflix Original though.
Lonewolves wrote:

Netflix deliberately conflate "regional exclusive we bought the streaming rights to" with "thing we paid a production company to make", I assume for marketing reasons. I dunno about naughty but it is confusing.

There's shows that are different though. It buys The Expanse off SyFy, but it drops the whole show in one go after the live broadcast run is finished. I assume it's all tied up in the negotiation process and other streaming companies (The Expanse streams on Amazon in the US, Netflix elsewhere.)

Indeed we did, but I forget things.

However I did go back and check earlier in the thread, hence the edit to my post. I've just got used to seasons dropping in their entirety in the interim.

Also, I REALLY WANTED TO WATCH THE NEXT EPISODE.
We have one more series of Breaking Bad to binge, then we are all over this!

I enjoyed the new episode of Better Call Saul but I could barely remember what was happening with the chicken man and baldy.

What was happening with the chicken man and baldy? Baldy has a job working for that tart for some reason but why?

And why did the young gangsta want to do that thing to the Salamanker guy again?

I need answers.

A good bet is to either watch the recap, or even better (and this is what I do), have a read of the previous season's summary at Wiki. (Before watching the new season, of course.)

Otherwise it's basically impossible to remember where everyone is up to (IME at least).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breaking_Bad_(season_3)#Episodes
Read the part where it says each episode is released weekly next year.

Things change with age and kids! I remember when Lost was an active show and there were recaps, my wife an I were mocking the need for them.

Then last night whilst watching this we had to pause 10 mins in and look at Wikipedia to remember what had gone on at the end of S3 :)
S04E02 was great I thought, and Kim's 'chat' with Howard was splendid.

I'm not sure I like watching an episode per week though, I'd be much happier if I could binge the entire season over the course of a few evenings.
Just wait a couple of months and you can.

Howard is such a strange cat.
Pretty weird duck, too.
Caught up with ep2 last night.

This show is so good. I don't think I look at my phone at all when this is on.
Watched the final two episodes of Season 4 last night, which weigh in at just shy of two hours between them.

Thought it rounded off the season really well, and we know that they're going to wrap it all up in Season 5 to transition into the Breaking Bad world.

When Mike shot Werner! I knew it was coming, but it was built up to so well it was still fucking awful to see it happen.

Saul Goodman is now reality, and it looks like Kim will be exiting stage left soon.

And we get to see Chuck again!

Fantastic television.
Yeah, by far the best thing on TV for me.

Now the long wait for more.
Call me mad, but I’ve been disappointed with this season. It hasn’t really done much after last season and felt ponderous and self serving. Mike’s end scene was well done but I kept thinking of “that scene” in Barry which was very similar - Barry is talking to his friend in the car - but far more impactful.
