In response to the bolded text, it's not an absurd criticism, based on how insistent they are about stringing every single race together with screens of wan, insipid, character interactions.
"Dude, you're the best racer there is!"
"I just try and do my best, and have some fun at the same time."
"Hey kid, you call that a car."
"Hey, I'm just driving for fun, man. I don't need racing to stress me out."
"I wish I could drive like Ashley. She's the greatest."
