Mashed08 - Hack Day UK [21st/22nd of June]
Reply
I only first heard about this today, but it sounds fantastic.

It's a, free, BBC hacking event on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of June, next weekend time. The BBC are putting on a free return bus trip from Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield, Cardiff & Bristol.

I am almost certainly going, I was going to be in London that weekend already visiting some friends, if they are interested we'll be going but if not I'll probably have to miss at least one day of it.

Here's some from the event website:

Mashed - it's Hack Day time again and this year we've got a corker of a weekend planned.

Arrive on the Saturday morning and listen to real people from the development world showing you how to build things and how to use the systems that will be available to you through-out the weekend - including a full broadcast TV station.

As the talks draw to a close the 24 hour hack begins - there's plenty of food (no it's not all pizza this year - think pie and mash) - distractions for when you need them and if all goes to plan a special event at midnight.

Sunday plods on to the live presentations at 2pm - hosted by a very very special guest star... if you thought last year was a great time - this year we'll blow your socks off.

It's all about you, if you want something let us know and we'll organise it.

There is going to be:

A create your own Dr. Who Monster competition,
The inventer of Fire Eagle will be there talking about it,
Some bloke from Yahoo! will be there to talk about Searchmonkey,
People will be launching rockets with cameras attached to them,
NASA are presenting about the tech behind future Mars Rovers,
Microsoft Robotics Team will be there talking about robots,

And a chance to get on the telly!

More on it here
Colour me interested....

* glances at unwritten thesis though *
So wait, no transport from the capital city of the country... where they're based.

Joy.

A second look at the web site shows this too:

A free shuttle bus (limited seats) will be running between Wood Green tube, Alexandra Palace station and Mashed08.

Is that any use to you?
Ah, it's IN London.
Missed that.
