Come back, Baby come back.

All that she wants is another baby, and no bombs tomorrow.
That wanker Donald Trump has declared a National Emergency to alllow himself to appropriate funds to build an ineffective wall that isn’t even needed, because of reasons he literally made up.

A dangerous precedent to set, especially if (as expected) the entirety of the Republican Party grumble for a moment and then go into full TRUMP IS GOD mode.

?
There are currently 31 active national emergencies in the US, apparently.
One was started by President Carter in 1979. It's still going.

Ooh, what is it for?
I hope it's bears.

Ooh, what is it for?

Selling arms to Saudis, or something.
I'm idly wondering if those angry people protesting by wearing hi-vis jackets fall under section 1 of the Public Order Act 1936 prohibiting political uniforms. Might be that the law only applies to formal organisations rather than informal gatherings with just a poor fashion sense.
Another '80s favourite rebooted for the 21st Century with a larger and more diverse cast. No longer a gang of four - it's the Gang of Seven!

Well, this is interesting.

UK MPs Chuka Umunna, Luciana Berger, Chris Leslie, Angela Smith, Mike Gapes, Gavin Shuker and Ann Coffey quit Labour https://t.co/HXhplLVwro
Don't know what to make of this right now, but can hardly blame them given the inadequacy of the current leadership and what seems to be an obsession with ideological purity rather than opposing an appalling government and building a wide-spread movement to seek power (not to mention not doing much to stop Brexit).
Of course, with a better voting system I'd have more confidence that this is the right approach to both stop Brexit and evict the current government.
Do you think any others will join them? If a few more MPs start shifting over it will get interesting!
If some Tories were to join them, that'd be interesting and possibly more successful.

(Chain of consciousness right now because I'm not quite sure where I stand on this and the Russian pornbots haven't picked a side)
Are these rebels aligned politically? Is this a centrist movement?
It’s a shit name, tbf.
My colleague Brian, who is a literal card-carrying member of the Labour Party, lives in Berger's constituency and works with her often in his role as the Secretary of the University Unison Branch.

I reckon he'll have mixed feeling about this development.

"Now that we've decided to form an independent group of MPs, all we need is a catchy name!"

The People's Front Of Judea
Brian's feelings are not mixed.

"She no longer represents Wavertree. We're starting the selection process today"
I bloody love Berger. She's brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Clever, just, pragmatic and personable
Was actually enjoyable to hear that song again.

The video is an absolute effects-addled monstrosity, however.
Did see someone suggesting that the TIGgers (as they shall now be known) spoke to the Tories about some of their moderates joining the party, but they’re now all, “LOL, nah we’re cool.”
In an impressive move, TIG, who say they formed a new party in part due to racism inside Labour, have one of their founders refer to PoC as being ‘funny tinged’.

Our best and brightest.
"Quitting the party for another left leaning organisation will split the vote allowing Conservative victory at the next election"

"They should all call by-elections to make sure people still want them as MPs"

Aren't these two positions slightly at odds with each other?

Quote:
But a decent approach would surely be for Berger’s party members – and indeed all of us – to show solidarity against Berger’s antisemitic harassment (which we should do whether Berger is in Labour ot not), and for Berger to commit to not join a new party and thereby attempt to destroy her own party. Is that not reasonable?

That last paragraph sits really uncomfortably with me.

Heh
Disgusted but unsurprised by the Home Secretary's actions in the Begum case. Any citizen has the right to return home and, if necessary, face trial in our courts. We're also probably missing out on a potential intelligence source too.

But hey, it probably plays well in the local Tory Associations who'll pick the next leader.

Yeah, totally agree.

Banning someone born in this country from re-entering, even if they'll be arrested straight off the plane, seems disturbingly Trump-like.
What I expect: She gets legal aid, she applies to court, the case wins, she gets let back in. The tax payer picks up the tab for the government showboating. Again.

:this:

Followed, of course, by a week of hearing how soft/cuddly/out of touch our judges are. Trebles all round!
At which point Javid makes noises along the lines of "I tried to stop this terrorist - this kind of thing will be illegal when I become PM."

Mind you, why doesn’t the Syrian Government arrest her? I’d be happy with that.

One more and the Independents will be a bigger group than the Liberal Democrats.
Good letter. Right to raise the issue of entryism in both parties and how disruptive the so-called 'European Research Group' have been.
How many defections will it take for the Tories to lose their majority?

Trick question. They never had one.
Sorry; 'majority'
Now three tories have left Tory + DUP is 325 out of 650.

Is my maths right there? If one more leaves then they've lost their 'majority'?

Edit: Or am I looking at the number here that have already been updated to reflect the defectors?
https://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and ... e-parties/
Trying to work it out. I think you need another seven to counterbalance the 10 DUPpers but my maths are a bit shaky. Excluding the remaining Tories, DUP, SF and the Speaker, I think the opposition are now tied with the government.

Sinn Fein don't sit so 322 is a majority.
Ah right, yeah.
