The new Education Secretary has gone one step further, and has resigned, less than 2 days into the job!

My Hope is that Labour win the next election, but need the Lib Dems to rule, and that they DEMAND PR and some form of way back to the EU (or single market at least) as the price for that.

If that doesn't happen then I think we're probably doomed for the next 20+ years

The conversations I have had in meetings make a Lab-Lib government very unlikely, as they jumped straight in with the Tory party, and this isn't forgotten. Also, a pact. Tween voters to GTTO doesn't work as lib Dems rarely reciprocate by accounts.
I was thinking of confidence and supply, because I don't think the Libs will want to be burned again.
Joy as the rumours abound that he'll step down. Grumpiness as the Beeb says he plans (though the reporter added a "hopes") to stay till Autumn.

It was the consequence of their actions, to be fair to them.

Not yet... :)
I've meetings all day so won't be able to open the fizz just yet. Pah.
The official statement from number 10 is that he's going to make a statement, doesn't say that he's going to resign, so he could still call an Election, burn the house down as leaves...
Some reports are saying he wants to hold until October so there can be a proper leadership contest. Fucking delusional.
More likely because he wants to last longer than May

but it is July :P
As someone that gets paid primarily in USD, is it selfish of me to not want this Governmental implosion to ever end?

As someone who pays tuition and rent in USD, yes! :D
The photos from the official photographer of the last 82 hours should be fucking amazing.
Oh fuck, I've just remembered that out-going PMs get one last set of gongs to hand out as a farewell gift. Expect another bunch of freaks to get ermined.

:DD

I think he should resign from his purpose built press conference stage.
I honestly suspect that Boris has a delusional fantasy that if he can hold on as 'caretaker' until October the his adoring public will come to his rescue by mailing tons upon tons of, "Don't go Boris, we love you!" letters direct to the Commons like that bit at the end of Miracle on 34th Street.

They're all from Nadine.

Written in crayon, yet signed in blood.
So he's about to speak and I'm starting my weekly team meeting!
Right Kern. Let's get your campaign started. :)
They will have to drag him out...

Aide: "Well Boris, it looks like you've just a couple of months left."

Boris, pulling out map of Berlin: "Rees-Mogg's counter-attack will bring everything under control."

Aide: "Oh dear."

Grubby little cunts, aren't they?
Sickening. Who's paying for it?

Why don't they go the whole hog and do a huge farewell tour?
He's not going to resign, is he?
He spent his whole life and threw so many under his bus to reach Number 10. It's going to take him a while to admit it's all over. I picture a few weeks of wandering through the offices alone late at night, quietly giving all the speeches he's never going to make.

And I have absolutely no sympathy for him.

I think he thinks he's being pushed. Resigning would require a conscious act on his part.
There's a lovely article talking about his immediate problem being finding somewhere to live. It quickly points out that he'll not struggle overall any time soon, but robbed of acolytes, access to misuse the government jet to fly back from Cornwall, or to pop to Chequers etc. He'll miss *all* of that, so, so much. Probably also means he'll be in with anyone who offers him a private jet flight as soon as possible, totally and hopelessly compromised.
In less amusing news, the former Japanese PM, Shinzo Abe, was shot and probably killed. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-62089486

My MP finally broke her silence yesterday (I assume she had urgent nativity planning sessions to attend) and sent out an anodyne statement after Johnson's speech. I She made no mention of any scandals other than to say that it had become clear in recent weeks he could no longer lead the government. This is in great contrast to her statement about Partygate, when she said that getting rid of Johnson would be Putin very happy. It's this kind of seeing where the wind is blowing that's made her career what it is.

My favourite political joke is the one about the ex-minister who sits in the back of his family car and wonders why it doesn't start driving off.

Yikes.
Now upgraded to “definitely killed”
The audio sounds more like an explosion, so I suspect the reports of a homemade gun are accurate
Disappointed it wasn't a battlemech suit or GM lizard, tbh
I mean, super-tasteless but :D
No case to answer for Starmer over beergate.

On Radio 1 Newsbeat they announced it as "police have decided not to punish them".

Well, yes, that's what you do when people did nothing wrong.
As with World Cups, I think I'll only pay attention to the Tory leadership once we get down to the semis.

I have no idea how it's going to pan out, mostly because everyone is trying to appeal to an initial electorate of the current Parliamentary party, which is pretty rabid, and also the party membership, who are [*BLATANT STEREOTYPING KLAXON*] probably even worse.
The grand plan is to reduce the tax burden on people! By... reducing corporation tax...
I just...I... fuck it, I don't care any more, what's the point.
Tugendhat's out of the running. About the only one of the candidates I'd let anywhere near the controls. I feel like it's going to be a long summer, and a longer two years.

And yes, I'm fully aware that he was the only pale male in the line-up so without knowing the qualities of the alternatives that could come across really, really badly.

Maybe not if you are a supporter of critical race theory.
Just down the road from here, the council have introduced a £20 charge to park overnight (circled red, pretty much) There's reasons apparently, and the place was popular with motorhomes and the like.

Quote:
The ECHO understands the intention of the new charges is to better control where larger vehicles and motorhomes can park in order to remove obstruction on the public road, which is a statutory duty for local authorities. It is also understood that the new ETRO is expected to improve waste management in the area and help the authorities enforce the public space protection order in place at the New Brighton Dips.

However, I am a bit confused. Many comments I have read have said that people should get facilities for their £20 a night, whereas I think the charge exists as a deterrent and there shouldn't be an expectation of anything. Want facilities, go to a camp site.

Apparently, most of the motorhomes now are on the road that runs to the place marked Bluebells which must ruin the views of the more expensive houses over the golf course.
