Whoh. Kinect hackery created to map real world to Minecraft, and immediately used to create an image that is relevant to our interests:

At first glance I assumed it was a real-time thing.

It's not.

Ok so Notch updated Minecraft and Hey0 isn't updated (and by the sounds of it, it's not going to be http://forum.hey0.net/announcements.php?aid=4 because hey0 doesn't like minecraft anymore) so for those of you that still want to play the server but don't know how, just follow this (I don't know what to do on a mac sorry)
1. Go to 'my computer' and on the top adress bar, type %appdata%
2. Click on .minecraft
3. Click on the folder 'bin'
4. Copy the File mincraft.jar from 'bin' to your desktop
5. Run minecraft
6. Let minecraft update then close it
7. Go back to %appdata% and .minecraft and bin
8. Delete the mincraft.jar in the bin folder and place the one on your desktop
9. DO NOT DELETE THE MINCRAFT.JAR IN YOUR RECYLING BIN PLACE IT ON YOUR DESKTOP
10. Once the server is updated simple delete the minecraft.jar in the 'bin' folder and replace with the updated one you placed on your desktop

[Edit] if you have a mac then follow these steps except go to the macs version of %appdata% (I have no idea what it is called or how to get to it- SO LOOK ON GOOGLE)

Shame that hey0 isn't updating anymore. Quite a shitty way to announce his stepping back, too.

A slightly creepy Dead Space marker , created in Minecraft by one of the DS2 developers

http://kotaku.com/5747200/dead-space-2- ... ft-trailer

Quote:
A Visceral Games engineer built this Minecraftized trailer to celebrate Dead Space 2. "I put it up in time for launch but it was too dark," he writes. "Now that the partying has worn off, I remembered to brighten it."

The trailer was done by Michael Noonan, a gameplay engineer for Visceral. "The whole environment and shot set up I've done myself, though the actual scale of the marker is closer to the one in DS2," he told Kotaku. "I genned a couple worlds until I found a big mountain to put the marker inside, fortunately it was naturally hollow to begin with, I only needed to blow up a floor a bit.

"I didn't want to copy any Dead Space trailers, most of them show off the monsters which I just can't do in MineCraft, but it was definitely inspired by the 'Twinkle Twinkle' and 'Ring Around the Rosie' trailers. I'm not really good at audio stuff, so I spent a couple hours looking for a creepy a lullaby until I found that Silent Night music box melody that just seemed to fit the theme perfectly."

Stick around past the end for a special outtake involving a chicken and some necromorph shrieks. "I threw it in at the end as a sort of blooper reel gag," Noonan writes.

Its also getting an official iOS and Android version

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/3313 ... s_Year.php

Quote:
Markus Persson, founder of Mojang, the Swedish developer behind indie phenomenon Minecraft, has exclusively revealed to Gamasutra that an official iOS version of the hit open-world game is currently in the works for iPhone and iPad.

The port is being developed by Aron Neiminen, a new recruit to the Mojang team, and will be released later this year.

Persson said that the iOS edition will not receive every update that the original browser and download version gets, but rather will be granted those features that "make sense" for the touch-screen platform.

The game has received numerous unofficial Minecraft releases on iPhone and iPad, but this is the first official iOS release from the Mojang team.

[UPDATE: Weblog Kotaku is reporting that an official Android-compatible version of Minecraft is also in the works for later this year.]

Minecraft is currently in the beta stages, with a full release planned sometime this year. So far over 1.3 million copies of the game have been purchased, with nearly five million registered accounts on the official site.

Gamasutra talked to Persson recently as part of the Road to the IGF series. The developer discussed his inspirations for Minecraft, including the likes of Dwarf Fortress, Rollercoaster Tycoon and Dungeon Keeper.

He said, "I knew from the start that I wanted it to be a fantasy resource-based first person adventure type of game, but it took quite a while to reach that point."

It's down, probably permanently I'm afraid -- it was costing me £35/mnth and no-one was ever on it. I do have all the files, so the work hasn't disappared, it's just inaccessible right now. I'll sort out some access to it at some point.

Any home connection will only have enough bandwidth for a couple of players. More will give lag.

I never tried it. I did some bandwidth measurements with it on the server that weren't promising. It's possible they've tightened the netcode since then; I haven't tracked Minecraft's changelog.

I'm tempted to run it on my home server. Even if it only supports one user at a time, it would be nice to have it "there"..

I'll try it tonight. Is there anything needed apart from the backup?

I think that the new server will convert the the backup to a new format which might take some time.... might be wrong though. Let me know how it goes was thinking about setting something up too... but I'll let you try first :p.

I have extra stuff that is non-vital but useful, like scripts to make the maps and do backups, the map itself, and the hMod config (which includes kits and warps). Let me know how you get on and I'll walk you through it.

hey0 mod config attached to the first post in this thread. TAR is a Unix file compression type, most Windows tools should be able to extract the contents. http://www.7-zip.org/ will, and it's free.
