He all but plays The Doctor in the BBC version of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere.

Whilst ironically despite the genius of Johnson, I couldn't get Neverwhere's dangerous, charismatic, sarcastic Marquis DeCarabas out of my head. He can do it, have no fear.

Dr Who can make me get past Billie Piper's 'Because I want to!' and Catherine Tate's 'Am I bothered?' so they could get Jacqui Smith* to play the next Doctor and I'ld still come round to her.

I'm not sure that would really be true- Joseph has a pretty large range, and he's been nothing like Johnson in anything else I've seen him in. I think he's a good enough actor that it would be easy to disassociate the roles from each other in a very short space of time. I think he'd be a great Doctor; I hope he gets it.

Likewise, and I very much hope the James Nesbitt rumours come to nothing. If there's anything that might make me quit Doctor Who for good—even with Moff in the driving seat—it's Nesbitt.

I've never understood what people have against Nesbitt, I've always thought he was great. I might just be too simple to notice bad acting, of course. Richard. E. Grant is the only person I could think of who would cause me to switch off, as his interpretation of the Doctor is teeth-shatteringly awful.

Tennant in "not exactly truthful about reason for leaving" shocker?

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page ... e&id=18672

Quote:
So was David Tennant's leaving the show all down to his need to move on? A now or never thing? Not quite. He had been in negotiations with the BBC for a fifth, even a sixth full series, but wanted another 2009-lite Doctor Who break in 2011, a film pursued, and money above the current BBC wage cap. It didn't happen.

[mild spoiler for potential future plot arc snipped]

As for Paterson Joseph, the positive response that rumour has received has pleased a lot of people, especially the lack of expected "you can't have a black Doctor" responses.

I hear that Paterson Joseph, Sean Pertwee and Marc Warren are the three main contenders. But that right now Paterson is still the favourite.

But I'd also like to remind all and sundry that, according to "Doctor Who Magazine" editor Clayton Hickman, Bill Nighy was Russell T Davies' favourite for the role back in 2005. And that went nowhere.

Thats good.

I think any percieved worry about him being black is actually nothing to do with him being black, it's just the Dr has to be an British Gentleman (emphasis on the gentle rather than the man). He's the literary continuation of Sherlock Holmes, Alan Quatermaine and other classic English heroes.

And I think people worry when a woman or a non-white dr is proposed people worry they are moving to far away from that. Which is of course nonsense. There would be outrage if an american was cast though.

After just watching Neverwhere again, Joseph would be an incredible Doctor. Especially as The Marque was written to be a version of the Dr anyhow.

I think I'd make an awesome doctor. Who wouldn't want a slightly overweight non-actor that can't string a sentence together without stuttering? I'd make the show all hip and REAL. A furiously angry doctor that twats people over the head instead of over-reliance on intelligent gadgets.

Petition the BBC immediately.

Joseph's acting ability is such that this would be no problem at all to him. I'd actually love to see a regeneration that goes kind of like:

- Usual 'in pain' mugging from 'old' Doctor
- Bright light
- Doctor transforms into Joseph
- Joseph looks at his hands, which have changed colour

Joseph: "Huh. That's never happened before."

I watched the morning interview with Tennant where he said, totally off-the-wall speculation that 'hey, sure, maybe a female doctor, who knows', and then when one of the presenters said 'Billie Piper?' he was like 'Anything is possible with this show!', again, in a totally shrugging 'fuck knows!' kind of way.

Next thing you know I'm reading in all kinds of media the next that 'Piper tipped to be female doctor' based on these totally non-binding meaningless statements. The papers can just fuck off with their stupid reporting. How the FUCK would they cast Piper as the doctor? The very idea is stupid in the extreme. Ugh, gnngnfgf, etc.

I don't actually watch Dr Who, or give two shits about it, but the conclusions made from a few random words from Tennant are just lunacy.
