Pattersn Joseph has the potential to be an abslutely awesome Doctor. If he's really the Doctor I approve heartily.

If he's not, may I suggest Andy Serkis?

As nobody else has mentioned it....

I enjoyed the Christmas special. I was a bit drunk, but it was better than last year's effort.
Morrissey was an excellent Doctor-wannabe, and it was his plight that was more interesting then that of the cybermen, who did little more then create a threat for the Doctor and the 'doctor' to work around. The evil Victorian lady was suitably malevolent, but the throne of the cyberking bit did remind of 'Dark Season' . For Christmas Day fare, it worked.

I thought absolutely nothing happened. It just got to looking like it would develop a plot after 45 mins of over lengthy intro and then it was suddenly "Oh look I've freed all the children and won with a few words" ~~FIN~~

I would just like to say I have the Trial of a Timelord box set and it's quite fab. Great extras.

They've remastered the superb model shot from the opening of episode one from the 35mm film. Shot on the first motion control camera in London (and as the first project on that camera) it holds up well today against modern CGI. Really great stuff and cost 7 grand in 1986 for that single 30 second sequence (about 15 grand in todays money). To put that in context, it was about a tenth of an episodes budget in 1986 so was a significant spent.

Also the superb use of the "Harry" paintbox system in episodes 5-9.

And I discovered I'm not going mad. I went on a school trip to the iron age village used in episodes 4-8 but was baffled by the location when I revisited it. I could have swore it was opposite the Queen Elisabeth Country Park and not 3 miles down the road. However a documentary on the DVD reveals that the original village was demolished in 1991 and moved 3 miles down the road, so I wasn't mis-remembering (the school visit was, by my reckoning was 1987).

I have not seen the Xmas special yet because it will be repeated endlessly no doubt. That said I've not seen the Kylie one yet and I suspect I'd rather poke my eyes out with needles than see a piece of stunt casting that makes JNT look tame.

I trust that they made the right call. I thought both of the last two doctors would be rubbish, and was wrong both times, spectacularly so with Tennant.

Meh, great for the kids though as they will identify with him more. At least I have my Tom Baker memories. No one can take those away from me!

I just can't watch a Doctor who looks like he is twelve. It loses the credibility factor for me.

As I said, great for the younger generation.

So looking 40 is much closer to 900 then? It's hardly enough to make a difference is it? I think it's a great decision, as although he's young, he's not what you'd call a heartthrob (in fact, he is quite a bit funny looking). I didn't really know much about either of the last two doctors, and they made excellent choices then.

I'm sure he'll be a fine doctor, and I look forward to watching it in 2010. I do think though that there is an argument about the doctor looking older making it easy for us to relate to him as a figure of authority/wisdom. I guess the 11th doctor will be less obvious in that. Random military types are not exactly going to defer to that face...

I just watch the video they have of him on the BBC site. He certainly seems odd enough to do a good job.

Me, I was really hoping for Patterson Joseph, or someone old. As long as Moffat brings the sci-fi back into it, and we have at least... oooh... 70% less 'saving the world' scripts, I'll be happy. A young actor could work though, if he's REALLY good, and not just Beeb hype good.

As long as it goes in a different direction from the current somewhat staleness (though I did like series 4, it just wasn't anywhere near the wonder we should be getting) it'll be grand.

I say, let the proof be in the pudding.

Just to be clear, it's not his age that I have an issue with. It's that to me he looks twelve. If he looked twenty seven then I could accept him a lot more easily.

However after sleeping on it and calming down I will watch him with an open mind as Moffat is a great writer and If anyone can pull this off, he can.
