I think you mean "ball", in the sense of a party-type occasion. But "bawl" would also work in context if you meant they were wailing and shrieking noisily

I've reached the first milestone of the game I'm writing and it's pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. Only a little bit more to do now, the rest should take about an afternoon.

We dropped the Grimlet in at the deep end and went to Southwalk Fireworks, and fuck me they were ace.
