Those paints don't look cheap.

What's to stop you ordering a tester pot, painting a board, and getting it matched at B&Q?

We did this, B&Q sell Farrow & Ball so I just tore the colour off that I wanted and they mixed it. It was close enough, you'd know if you put the F&B paint next to it, obviously so don't do that. Just make sure to keep the code once they've mixed it, and don't throw away the last tin with the code on... Like what we did. Oops.

This is tonight! Really looking forward to the Strauss - the Four Last Songs are sublimely beautiful and long been resident on my list for the Desert Island when the time comes.

The second half is taken up with Per Nørgård's 3rd Symphony. I've never heard of him or the piece, so going in blind and no expectations other than the blurb, which promises 'glowing microtones and thick, textural beauty'.

What I do know is that if I turned on the radio part way through, I'd have immediately turned it off again. Random sounds, phrases and passages that start promisingly but then don't go anywhere or are swamped by dissonance, chanting, and all the other stuff that gives 20th century music a bad name.

And yet, I sat transfixed throughout. I enjoyed the loud deep droning of the organ (I don't think I've ever appreciated how big and dominating the organ in the Royal Albert Hall is until now), the unexpected sounds, phrases, and synapses of almost-but-not-quite melody. I didn't notice the time passing and the 50 minutes seemed to fly by.

I'm going to have to relisten because ever since it ended last night I've been struggling to really decide what I actually think of it, how any of it fitted together or, heck, even if I actually enjoyed it. I'm still ruminating on it now, trying to make sense of it all.

The composer was at the concert and took a bow with the conductor at the end, which was nice.

It's always good to hear see or read something that makes you ask yourself questions. If in the end you decide it's not for you it can still reinforce what you love about your usual stuff.

All positive.

Presumably the single-source Unicum is considered higher quality than a blended Multicum.

A while ago I bought a Tesla dual 18650 mod from a friend for cheap. About £15 IIRC. It was the first time I had vaped like, hard. And I loved it, even though I go through Eliquid fast. However, a coil will last 1-2 days at best and other than a simple dial there is no way to reduce the power any more. This causes a problem with .5 and .2 ohm coils. It sounds like a jet engine taking off and really annoyed my family to "whinging point" when I was there. So, I decided to be nice and buy a new 'mod'. I eventually found this for £24.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07 ... UTF8&psc=1

So I ordered it. I did notice however that the price was considerably higher about 30 mins after I ordered it.

However, it actually arrived. Then I realised just how good it was and why it's so expensive. It has a bios and everything ! (no I have not flashed it... yet !).

Chuffed. That crap never happens to me ever.

So it turns out it's Dragoncon here this weekend. We have already seen some amazing costumes. Just waiting for the parade now. Gutted we didn't know - some great guests.

It's a vaping "mod" (or basic battery case with no controller)

Image

Which takes two 18650 batteries

Image

But is not electronic, so you can only lower the voltage ever so slightly. Meaning you get a bonfire every time you vape with it (noise like a jet taking off). The new one is electronic, and you can drop the wattage massively. So less noise (and less vape but I can live with that).

Batteries will last a shed load longer too.

Random drunk shit: my new relationship seems to be going pretty well. I mean I really like her, obviously, but, in addition to that:

  • My cats, who fucking hate everyone, are basically in love with her to a ridiculous degree. This morning my grumpiest cat clambered on top of her and fell asleep purring her ass off while Aran casually threw an arm over her. My heart may have exploded...
  • My cute little neurotic cat now pounces on her lap the instant she sits down in my flat and then rolls around in ecstasy getting all the scritches. She's too weird and terrified of anyone else to even look at them (the cat, I mean) but when Aran arrives we're all about the relaxation.
  • She met my parents last weekend. We have a family wedding coming up so it made sense to get them together beforehand. It was a mutual lovefest the like of which I've rarely seen.
  • I met her sister two weeks ago. The sister, like most of her family, lives in Ireland and rarely visits Scotland. But she was here on a pre planned visit so of course we all got together. Apparently her sister was so gushing and gooey about us as a couple that Aran had to literally tell her to "shut the fuck up about it" hours later.
  • A few of my best friends have met her multiple times; everyone loves her
  • I think she's fucking awesome.

So, yeah; that's a thing.

After almost 17 months, my youngest has started to sleep through the night. 10 days in a row and he has moved from my inlaws in Dublin back to our house during that time.

Nothing to do with the specialists, routines, dairy-free diets, and endless fruitless but well-meaning advice from friends and family. He has just decided its time.

He is walking a lot now so guess being upright is helping his digestion and getting that farts out that kept him up, no medical evidence for this but its all I've got :)

So with a bit of luck, I can take my wife out at the end of the month for her birthday, the first time in 2 years.

Hurricane Florence has moved enough that we don't need to evacuate. :)

Hope everyone further North has managed to get to safety.

A rather strange road trip. Strange because it was in Caterham, where my brother lives (I was there two weeks ago) but also strange because it is where I used to live pretty much, so it seemed like the reverse of visiting the seaside many years ago. An amazing night out, though.

I had a last minute job come in on Thursday for Friday. I couldn't do it as I was at EGX but I managed to convince them to do it over the weekend instead. I've just finished it and put the invoice in so that's covered the mini Pac-man arcade machine I bought during EGX and more! Brilliant. It's like free money!
