Has the beta closed yet? If not, what are the dates for it?

I’m interested because I’ve read comments that this leans more towards Rainbow Six: Siege/PUBG tactical gameplay and the TTK has been increased. Some people were just crying like babies about the TTK but every bit of footage I’ve seen looks like more of the same.

Beta starts again this evening and runs for the weekend - if the code has not been taken you go to the Activision website and put it in and it will give you a steam / xbo / ps4 download key to grab the demo.

I got one for preordering at Amazon (which i got last week so played it at the weekend) , and got this one from the O2 app

The only modes available last week were very COD like - although no HC modes so you still have the situation where you pump bullets into them and they turn round and one shot you

Movement is still fairly fluid but no jetpacks - the grappling hook lets you move quickly but its very limited in when you can use it.

I'd say TTK (Time To Kill) is slightly higher than previous games but spawn camping is still there and one of the specialists can drop a spawn beacon - if you choose to spawn at that point then expect the enemy to be waiting for you.

Until you unlock create a class (level 6) the initial few classes and weapon setups are crap and I really did not feel like i could do very much until I hit that point - then getting a specific gun and starting to level it up to unlock sights / rapid fire / grips makes the run and gun game a lot better.

Just an FYI, I’ve took the first code and, yes, it was a ballache to login and get a code at all.

Many thanks to Zaphod!

I’m actually super-excited to try to BR mode tomorrow. Hey, Zaphod, I’m trying to get Myp to download the beta but this code isn’t working (and it’s not showing as being redeemed either - just it doesn’t recognise it). Is it still possible for you to check whether it’s extant?

Also, I should be on this tomorrow for BR if you want to play duos or, if we can get a third, squads!

Wow, erm, it’s kinda good. Smooth as silk at 60FPS, plays like a CoD without the ridiculous aim assist and also like a PUBG without the jank. Colour me impressed so far.

Gerroutta here. I got more kills and we both went down once.

I do like this new Call of Duty though, a lot. There’s RC cars for scanning the area, trip mines, moveable barriers to deploy, hiding in the grass, ATVs, trucks, boats, helicopters, healing on the move, massive areas to explore etc etc. There’s loads crammed in here. The movement is great, it’s smooth, feels nice to play and so on.

It’s not just a tacked on BR mode. It feels fleshed out and new and funky.

Meh. Like Fortnight and the other BR modes that other games now have? If it’s done well and differently enough then I’ve no problem with it. I consider this BR mode to be very good and well worth a go.

Fortnite at least tries to differentiate itself by being cartoony and less serious. This is just exactly what I expected it to be. A po-faced CoD does PUBG. There's nothing original about it.

Po-faced? It has zombies, monkey bombs, other daft weapons and the vehicles handle like Halo.

Sorry - Satsuma - on holiday when this came out - i did get a few quick matches on Sunday night when i came back but that was it - and by that point i was a total newb and everyone else seemed to know exactly what they were doing :-)

Will give the mode more of a try when the full game comes out.

I’ve already got a couple of chicken dinners but I really liked it and would probably pick it up if there were plans for more & free maps for the BR mode but I guess any additional content will be hidden behind a £50 season pass (or however much it’s going for. Something daft no doubt).

Tempted but I’m going to get it on Xbox. It’s holding it’s bloody price though. Tch.

Multiplayer is just typical COD multiplayer , it is at least stable and does not blue screen much (at all?) , you dont get jumpy wallrunning twats but you still get kangaroo people and people who go from standing to prone to jumping to avoid bullets

Still has the same spawn issues (some of the small maps again on Domination you have spawn / die / spawn / die / etc etc) - no obvious overpowered guns or perks and the specialists abilities tend to be a one off (or possibly 2 goes) in a game rather than being used all the time.

Zombies blue screens regularly which makes it okay for a quick blast but you cant spend the time to set things up and get into the quests and missions stuff.

I really cant get the Battle Royal mode - i spawn in - grab a gun - wander around a little and get killed - i may return to it but i just dont 'get' that

There is no single player but i think there are parts that were obviously designed to be parts of that and thats the Specialists training areas - pick your specialist and you get some cut scenes about them joining the team , and some tutorial missions about using your special weapons and abilities.

Overall I've played this more than the WW1 version last year but its nothing special

It’s a shame you didn’t get to play the beta with me, I could have showed you the ropes. It’s a tactical affair and much more fun in duos and squads as you have to keep your comms on point.

If you’re dying quick then try not to land in populated areas to start. You’ll find that the best loot is normally strapped to the back of another player so play smart, sneak attack and swipe their loot. Use the terrain to your advantage, never be afraid to avoid a firefight until you can engage on your terms, learn about bullet drop and leading your shots, and optics win games.

Nuketown has been added as a free map - yes its Nuketown (with a different skin) so very small map that people know well and gives you some crazy amounts of kills or XP if you wanted to level up quickly.

Microsoft’s Black Friday deals are already live. This is down to £41.99, which doesn’t seem like much of a deal at all.

I used to think that this was the hardest BR to get a win on and it was grinding me down a bit. But the Hot Pursuit mode breathed new air into its lungs for me with the ‘respawn on the next ring collapse if you’ve got a squad mate alive’ mechanic, especially since the later in the game you respawn the more guns you come equipped with. The last ring you always get a level 2 vest and an MX9 submachine gun from the off. It produces absolute fucking chaos as the final ring could theoretically have 88 players in it.

Plus, since you know you’re going to respawn in, at worst, 2 minutes (and sometimes you’ll die and be immediately thrown straight out the whirly bird) I don’t mind dropping somewhere hot right from the off and just getting stuck it.

It’s aces.
