You can get a Steam Controller and a Steam Link for £27.35 in the Steam Sale: https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/7 ... _and_Link/

If you've already got them, why not get a spare Steam Link or three? They're £2! https://store.steampowered.com/app/353380/Steam_Link/

I believe so, but you'd better double check.

The Steam Controller is a thing of beauty, though.

I did check and you can. Don't need any more controllers!

PS4 controllers work natively but I think you need a dongle for Xbox ones. I love mine, it's great playing PC games on the sofa in the living room when my PC is upstairs!

If you've got a wired controller you can just smash it straight in and it works fine; I have a wired Xbox controller for when we play games on the link (this was before I got a better computer so the quality wasn't as good).

My only criticism with the Steam Controller is that not all games recognise it as a controller some pick it up as a mouse and keyboard can make it a little awkward to set it up properly.

I just choose the best community control scheme and it's usually fine.

Me too! But sometimes its shite, like in GTA 5 there are some way better schemes that aren't the community top voted one.

Oh, I see where you're going wrong. You're trying to play a console game on your word processor.

Can you access the normal desktop of your PC through the Steam Link? That would be useful.

Yes, but it’s a bit hacky, has glitched out for me a few times (requiring me to walk to the PC to fix), and is awkward to control the mouse cursor unless you have a mouse or a Steam Controller on the Steam Link. It is the only way to load games that don’t come from Steam, though eg. GOG or Origin.

You can, but it's a faff. When you start it up it kicks off Big Picture mode so you have to go to your computer and put it back to normal mode.

I think you can tick a box somewhere to enable desktop mode remotely. Although my Steam Link has been unplugged for ages.

Thanks guys. That's interesting. I'm thinking that it might be a good way to use Plex in my living room? I've ordered one anyway so I'll have a play and see what happens.

That's if I get it that is. There's a big demand apparently.

It's probably the worst of 45 ways to use Plex in your living room, but sure

No, it’s a really crappy way to use Plex in your living room. Get one of the Fire TV sticks for that. Assuming you somehow don’t have a console that runs Plex and your TV can’t do it.

I have the Xbox One which runs Plex but that's in my Command Centre away from the living room. I do also have a Fire Stick but it's old and a bit slow but never mind. I'll have a play and see how I get on.

It looks like it'll work which is good enough for me.

The most annoying thing about the Steam Link for me is that it's unusable when your PC is locked.

I suppose there's not really much way around that, but it'd be nice if it could do what remote desktop does and "unlock" the PC in a remote session or something, and then lock it again after when finished.

It does have WOL but I've never tried it.

I did wonder if Wake On LAN was meant, but wasn’t sure how that would help in that situation so thought it might have been something else.

I don't own a PS4, so I don't know how good a deal this is, but Amazon are doing 15 months of Playstation Plus for £34.99 as part of their Prime Day stuff.

There are a few decent films on Google Play for £1.99 at the moment, including The Martian, Gone Girl, Taken and Speed.

Not only is DEADBOLT absolutely brilliant. It’s now on sale (on PS4) for a limited time at the, frankly, absurd price of THREE POUNDS and ninety nine pennies. So FOUR POUNDS then. I’m struggling to think of ANYTHING for that price that’s more value for money.

If you don’t play this then you’re DEAD(BOLT) to me.

You ain't half right (you're all right). Been playing this on the vita and it's tremendous. I'm shit at it but it's very satisfying shooty puzzle em up in a similar vein to hotline Miami. But more lo fi and less arcadey.
