Two populist parties were the big winners in the election. They proposed a cabinet to the Italian president, who rejected the nominations, but no other parties can form a viable coalition, so limbo time.

The Beeb have a good explainer.

That seems like a really sensible idea. If everyone could do that and solve their disagreements with a dance-based contest the world would be a better place.

Gosh. Geordie Grieg (Mail on Sunday editor) is replacing Paul Dacre as Daily Mail editor. He and Dacre are political opposites.

Yesterday, the House of Commons debated the crucial issue of a box for Cornish people to proclaim their identity in the next census, and quickly grasped the key point:

Chloe Smith (Parliamentary Secretary, Cabinet Office) wrote:
I understand the argument that a tick box has been seen as essential in getting to questions of cultural identity, such as ethnicity, national identity and language. However, the innovation of an online questionnaire means that we can add a drop-down box with a “search as you type” option.

Only fair to praise Mr Corbyn for that. Well done Jeremy.

Haven't caught with this but apparently there's an exciting twist later on in the episode.

What? Mr Trump's charitable foundation, modestly titled 'the Trump Foundation', might have been a bit dodgy?

BBC wrote:
The lawsuit alleges that the foundation paid $100,000 (£750,000) to settle legal claims against Mr Trump's Mar-A-Lago resort, $158,000 to settle claims against one of his golf clubs, and $10,000 to purchase a painting of Mr Trump to hang at another of his golf clubs.

BBC

I'm shocked.

I’m sure we can all agree that taking photos up the skirts of women without their consent is a creepy and bad thing.

So it went to Parliament to put it in line with other similar offences.

It was nearly filibustered by Friend of the Forum, Philip Davies, and then shouted down by SIR Christopher Chope, who objected to it.

Cheers, Tories, you weird sex offenders.

Davies has said before that a lot of the proposed legislation requires scrutiny lest poorly drafted laws find their way on to the statute book, hence the many questions posed and clarity of definitions sought. Even though the principal might be good (free parking at hospitals for carers), the execution less so (there was little to no definition of carer, in this instance). A goal without a means is just a dream, as I like to say, and, such definition is important.

I see seasonal workers are now getting a visa exception as well.

It's good to see the British tradition of forming a simple but ineffective law then amending it to high buggery is already bank in full swing.

Senior Tories are advocating for legalising weed. If I were a young person, I'm not sure that the promise of a joint would take my mind off the government's disdain for our future.

But I'm not, and whilst I agree in principle, I really don't like the smell of weed.

Mali! Stop tweeting to lords!

Quote:

My Lords, does the noble and learned Lord know whether Karl Marx is public or private property?

Lord Keen of Elie:
My understanding is that there is no right of property in a body.

This is why we have a House of Lords:

Quote:
Lord Selkirk of Douglas:

Does the Minister accept that in the past I have had a particular interest in this because one of my ancestors was buried in an Egyptian sarcophagus? When efforts were made by respected members of the public to recover the sarcophagus, it could not be found. Perhaps I may say that where private sector measures impact on the public sector, it can often give rise to offence if it means interfering with other graves.

Lord Keen of Elie:
I am obliged to my noble friend for his question. I am not aware of the present whereabouts of the sarcophagus in question.

Speaking of which, Mr Trump is apparently going to have dinner at Blenheim Palace when he graces these shores next month. He'll probably find it a little too restrained compared to his properties.

Reading that article, I didn't get the impression that the recommendation was due to them being American. It was a recommendation about avoiding the protests as they could get violent in general, not specifically targeting them.

Which, to be fair, isn't terrible advice.

It's a strange world we live in. I cannot help but feel, when faced with a bellicose US president, the whole thing was handled much better by Prime Minister Hugh Grant.

It would be great if she has finally had enough, and decides to put the beat down on trump in her speech later, but it will be all special relationship this, and valued friendship that.
I want her to go "fuck it" and call everyone out on all the petulant bullshit.

The whole thing is just amazing, as everyone just seems to step back and doesn't quite know what to do. Still, tea with Brenda, later, could prove interesting.
