No stress test for you, then.

PS4 will be better anyway: no hackers and there’ll be an Ian.

If I can scrape enough together I'll see you there. Possibly after a few price cuts.

After enjoying Bloodborne immensely I've been toying with the idea of a Dark Souls, but having watched a decent amount of play of the first game it just seems to revolve so massively around slow turtling behind a shield, which I have no interest in. I dunno, is it worth giving a shot to if you've cut your teeth on the more fast, fun, aggressive combat of Bloodborne?

Nah, depends on your build. Don't think I used shields at all, pyro glove on one hand and bladed weapon in the other. Keep the weight down and you can be fast.

Yeah, I did a dex build, no shield and light armour. There's real bonuses to keeping equipment weight down.

In shocking news, I was a fucking great tank with the biggest shield and the heaviest armour you could get.

And a big hammer, I think.

Nah. I spat my dummy out when the tutorial is completely wrong if you happen to choose a dex build, but I got past it eventually.

Got the remaster on pc. It's dark souls. right dow to the accidentally floating merchant.

As I have the non remastered version on steam, I am able to buy it for half price on steam.Surprisingly, this also seems to extend to buying it as a gift for others... I suspect that isn't what they meant to do. (Although I'm not going as far as actually paying in order to test this, just the review & purchase page)

Playing through with a magicking person for the first time ever. This appear to be easy mode.

Picked the knight build, very slow movement compared with Bloodborne.

Beat the Asylum Demon second time the second time you meet it after running through the open door the first time. Went one way once I got to Lordran and found some skelibob men who killed me. Decided to go a different way and made good progress to Undead Burg before being killed by the Taurus Demon. That'll do for now.

First impressions are that the graphics are significantly poorer than Bloodborne, despite only being three years difference between the games. I'm guessing they got a bit more budget from Sony. The combat is SLOW. I don't mind it, but against the Asylum Demon I kept missing my chance to roll out of the way because I'd set it off way too early. My character is incredibly lumbering. I can't time parries yet.

But it's definitely got a lot going for it. I just need to adjust, I think.

I'm playing the remaster on PC though, so I expect better!

I didn't pay zero pounds to look at ghastly textures!

It’s a remaster not a remake! I’ve not played it though so I can’t comment on the textures but the geometry and whatnots probably won’t be improved much over the PS3/Xbox 360 original.

Shaders are noticeably improved, and higher target resolution. but that aside, the only difference appears to be the distance over which some enemies follow you.

You can get lighter weapons/armour, or improve your endurance.

You did choose the slowest, most lumbery initial build. But no matter, its only a starting point, and only really affects the beginning.

Undead Burg seems like the path of least resistance so far, but I'm getting my arse handed to me by both the knight down the steps after all the firebomb guys or the taurus demon further along. Am I missing anything or do I just have to get better?

The knight is a mini-boss that you probably shouldn't be tackling now. The Taurus demon is the first "proper" boss. Try running back to the tower when he appears, climbing up and doing the dropping attack you used on the asylum demon.

There's little point to killing the knight. he guards a crap ring and nought else.

Taurus demon is the way to go. I typically fight im on the tower as it gives enough space. Not sure how easy that is with slow-rolly mcrollerson you have there. You can kill hm entirely with plunging attacks, but getting back up ladder isn't so easy.

With judicious positioning you can also make him jump of the side of the walkway where the walls gone, but you'll likely find it's you who ends up off the edge.

Is it me? Or is it a bit... *Looks around furtively*

Easy?

I mean I've done DS3 and Bloodborne since, and it helps that I remember a lot of stuff from the original version. But I've also forgotten a lot of stuff from the original version. But I went wandering in the Basilisk bit of The Depths... That used to be a no-go area, but never even got close to being cursed.

I'm already at the Gaping Dragon.

Okay, so it's (fucking) Blightown next so that's going to suck. But I now know why people were complaining that DS3 was too easy.

It isn't, it's just you have the skillz you didn't when you first tackled a soulsborne.

Urgh, the playerbase (at least on PC) for Remastered has dropped 95% on release thanks to a slew of game breaking PvP bugs that haven’t been fixed since release and, in fact, were there in the original game. All of the PvP toobers that I watch (all 2 of them) posted about 1 video of DS Remastered and then went back to Dark Souls 3 because PvP doesn’t consist of glass cannons and just endless unavoidable backstabs. What a shit show of a remaster for one of the best games ever made.

So I’ve finally cracked and brought the Remastered. It’s the same classic game as it ever was but now at 60 fps.

I got to Taurus and smashed him first try; didn’t even die once getting to him, although that run from the bonfire under the bridge is surprisingly cunty for first timers especially since there’s loads of areas where you can’t swing a sword for hitting the walls.

I felt a bit saucy after that so I went back to get that first black knight I missed just beneath Taurus. Two hits and I was outta there.

I’m sure I’ve got 100+ hours on this on the PS3 so I was just amazed for something to happen to me that I’ve never seen!

Basically somehow I got picked to be one of 3 by someone in a grave lord covenant that infected me with an evil eye ring or something. This made the game much tougher until someone defeats the gravelord which you could, apparently, go to via a special summons. I never saw the summons or knew what was going on until a big signed flashed up “Disasters are gone on the defeat of the Gravelord” which made me google it. What an exciting time.

Turns out...

Quote:

There is a covenant called the Gravelord Servant covenant. Members of that convenant can use an item (Eye of Death) to infect three worlds. The infected worlds will then replace some enemies with their black phantom (BP) variations, provided that the player is in New Game + (NG+) and has rested at a bonfire after having been infected.

On top of that, the infected world will also have a special summon sign appear, which is really an invasion sign as, once activated, will have you invade the Gravelord's world as a blue phantom. Once the Gravelord has been killed, be it through the sign or other means, the infected world will be relieved of its infection and will display that message to let you know.

Anyone ever experience that?

I’d like to play Demon’s Souls with some QoL improvements from Dark Souls, specifically get rid of the item weight limit which sucked donkey dick.

Also, how fucking hard is the Undead Burg for first timers!? I’m a vet but even I was having issues getting from the bonfire under the bridge to the bonfire above MC Hammer. Fuckers will chase you all over the sodding map. Rats sodding poison you and there’s no moss knocking about.

And I’ve forgot how to trigger the Red Kite Dragon to get off the wall so I can duke it out with him man-o-dragon instead of him just roasting me before I can under his feet.

It's nervewracking for slow players. If you play it fast, you're shimmying side to side like you're Christopher Walken in the Weapon of Choice video with nothing being able to hit you. DS2's start is way more annoying, with tons of ladders and no Flask.
