That was clear from the initial quote. There's no way you'd put that on the marketing materials. It amuses me that anyone could read that and not realise its not quite on the level. (I was torn on how to present the initial post, to see if anyone here would but into it,or to make sure no one came to thy end conclusion I believed it) it did amuse me though.

Although sensory feedback would be a good improvement, I suspect electroshock is not the way to go

I've been playing GORN. It's all good apart from the LOUD CREEPY CHANTING that looms out at you out of the void when you first start it up.

BTW, the Bionik Mantis headphones are pretty good. 100% improvement in immersion and usability.

Oculus have dropped the ball somewhat by allowing a certificate to expire thus not allowing anyone with a Rift to connect to their servers.

Yeah, apparently the cert being expired is actually stopping them pushing out the fix the way they normally would.

Is it actually locking you out of your Rift, or is it just stopping you from doing certain online things? The Engadget article I just read implied the former but the hardware itself being 'always online' seems a bit bonkers.

That's total bullshit. I mean I'm assuming it would work if not connected to the internet at all (anything else would be mind-bogglingly awful) but if it is connected and just can't get through to Oculus servers having it totally shit the bed is ridiculous.

No, I did. But I *wouldn't have* if trooper hadn't seeded my brain.

I read that the next windows 10 update introduces haptics to all the steam vr games on WMR, so I tried the insider preview.

*Narrator voice*

It did not go well

So, WMR is getting Asynchronous Spacewarp (ASW) before the Vive as it's included in the April update to windows 10. This will let weaker PCs play more demanding games and still get 90fps in the headset.

The Vive forums were not pleased when this was announced.

So I've heard. I haven't had and FPS issues myself yet, but I've heard that it helps with the likes of Fallout and Skyrim in VR.

I mean I see the number on the screen saying 45fps, but it feels buttery smooth like 90. It's amazing.

So with the April Update to Windows 10, WMR now has haptic feedback in Steam VR games. It's been a long time coming, but it makes a huge difference to immersion.

I'm still a bit annoyed that WMR updates are lumped in with Windows 10 updates. Surely this is just an app, or at least a group of apps. Having to wait up to six months for a feature update is a bit much.

Anyway, now that I've added the headphones, extension leads and new face pads, my VR experience is as good as it can get (for now).

... I should have just bought a Vive :DD

So tonight was about time I tried Dirt Rally VR again.

I did much better this time, got through 2 stages before the nausea set in. I can really see the appeal of driving in VR. The depth makes it much easier to judge corners and obstacles. Just need better sea legs.

I can't play Elite with a controller either. If I don't have the input device that is replicated in VR I'm taken out of the immersion.

Windows Mixed Reality news!

In the next major update, Microsoft have relented to common sense and made a few changes. Here are the highlights:

* We will now be able to launch Steam games directly from the WMR environment. No longer is there an extra step involving navigating a virtual desktop with the motion controllers
* Pressing the "Windows" key on the controllers will no longer dump you back to the WMR Cliffhouse/Skyloft, but will instead pause your game and bring up a simple menu with the option of going back to the full WMR interface or using...
* The Flashlight. This is similar to the Chaperone system on the Vive whereby you can have a peek at your surroundings using the front facing cameras on the headset. Great for checking one something without having to haul the whole mask off.

Positives!

Do you have a PC VR headset?
Do you have no money?
Do you hate yourself?

Boy, do I have the game for you

https://store.steampowered.com/app/9230 ... et_Swords/

Quote:
CLOWNS ARE FALLING FROM THE SKY! KILL THEM ALL! You must destroy them. Do not relent. Do not give them quarter. FLY THROUGH THE AIR USING A UNIQUE MOTION SYSTEM, NEVER BEFORE SEEN IN VR! THEY ALSO LOOK LIKE CLOWNS.
Quote:
ABOUT THIS GAME
This game is an example of new motion systems in VR! Are you tired of boring teleportation and other such BORING alternatives?

Me too.

This game includes 3 weapons. Each one presents a new movement system, never before seen in VR.

-Blades: Hold the triggers to gain momentum, and soar!
-Daggers: Press the triggers to launch directly at your foes, striking with great ferocity!
-Lance: Hold and release a charged attack to fly through the air at breakneck speeds, and slay your enemies!

Fly through hoops, or kill clowns to gain points! Compete with your friends for the highest score!

Do you have any questions?

NO TIME FOR QUESTIONS! TOO MANY CLOWNS!

I take no responsibility should you try it out and get a massive headache/virus/clown.

Last night I manually installed the latest Windows Build on the VR box to get the new WMR features. Simply being able to launch Steam VR games without having to trawl through a virtual desktop is a *gamechanging* development. So much faff removed at a stroke. Combined with the little context menu that appears when you press the windows key (it previously dumped you back to the cliffhouse interface regardless of game status) I actually think this is usuable, viable platform.

The flashlight feature, where you can see your realworld surroundings without removing the headset, is actually a little bit strange. Going from a bright, colourful 3D game to a flat, B&W rendering of your room is really disconcerting. Useful though, especially when reaching for a beer :)

Would anyone be interested enough in trying it for me to bring it to the cottage? I don't have as many games as Dave and there's a fair bit of replication.

I’d be mildly interested because sometimes I wonder if a PCVR headset is in my future. But it’s a lot to ask you to pack/unpack so don’t feel you have to just for me.

I wonder this as well. The PSVR setup is more than 'good enough' for the price I paid, but it definitely feels compromised and based on my (admittedly limited) experience of decent PC setups I'd like some of that action.

Obviously I'd need to upgrade my PC for that (currently i5-7400, 8GB RAM, GTX 1060 6GB) but that's not necessarily my biggest worry. It's more the inherent variability of PC gaming.

VR necessarily brings a certain amount of extra annoyance over normal gaming in terms of calibration and whatnot. The PSVR setup minimises that which I appreciate, it's pretty much plug and play.

The latest Tomb Raider game ran badly initially in my PC and took some fucking around to tame. The idea of marrying that general level of specific per-game config to the whole VR concept fills me with an amount of horror.

I do genuinely love me some VR, but it's currently very much an adjunct to 'normal' gaming and if I spent a whole load of cash just to buy myself even more time dicking around in menus rather than actually playing games then I fear that would just kill the entire thing for me.

No controllers, headset only, not sure how much it would be to buy the controllers separately. On a quick google, that doesn't even seem possible, but it must be.

What Trooper said. You can buy the controller's direct from Dell I believe, but headset only still works with a lot of games.

Huh, actually apparently the controller are universal so you can buy them from any manufacturer and they'll work with any headset. They're still hard to find but you can get a Dell pair for $100 in the US at least:

Just tried Beat Saber with some custom songs.
