The Bip's heart rate monitor worked a lot better on yesterday's run by just tightening the strap one notch, I guess it just stopped light leaking around the sensor.

You must have lost a lot of weight since getting it.

I love the transreflective screen. Rarely have to switch on the backlight during the day.

Weirdly, my team leader bought himself an Apple Watch over the weekend, so we've been comparing. I can honestly say that my watch ('s battery life) is better in every way ;)

The things that Apple Watches do that these don't to me aren't worth the extra money, weight and the terrible battery life. But I guess they're also watches and in that respect Apple watches are definitely much better shiny baubles.

There's not one thing that the apple watch can do that's worth the extra money.

Change my mind, fanboys

Apple Pay. It unlocks my laptop automatically. It always shows my next meeting at a glance. It runs a Pomodoro style productivity app that taps me on the wrist when my 25 minutes are up. It has a realtime stock ticker, which allowed me to precisely time selling some shares last month and helped save me thousands of pounds. I can use it to check into somewhere on Foursquare without getting my phone out. It shows the timezone in California so I know when the people I need to talk to there will get to the office without doing timezone arithmetic. I can tap a button on it to turn my living room lights on and off. When I'm listening to music at my desk and a colleague walks up, I can pause music playback with it without having to reach over to where my phone is on charge. When I get on the Tube, I can power up my Bluetooth headphones and use it to resume playback of a podcast without getting my phone out of my pocket (if there's even room to do so, which where sometimes isn't on my commute.)

I'm not a fanboy.

(We need a sarcasm dimlie)

How entrenched are you with Apple and iOS gear in general? Would it be a massive wrench if the bossman (men? persons?) decreed that all google employees stop using Apple products? I'm fully aware that they won't ever do that, but I hear that Apple frowns upon employees using android stuff.

Battery doing ok, that's after a few runs and some long walks with the GPS on and the heart rate monitoring has been set to constant for the whole time I've had it.

Which one have you got Mark? Is it this one?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/YIMITECH-Smart ... B07919KHVT

or this one, which appears to be £20 cheaper for the same thing and I have no idea if I'm missing something...

Can you resume podcast playback if you did something else in the meantime? I only podcast on my commute, so inbetween I've been listening to Spotify on my phone. So if the Bip sends a "resume playback" command it'll get music, not podcasts. I'd be surprised if it can invoke a specific app.

I actually use an iOS podcast app (Overcast) with a full, customised Watch app. I can select podcasts, skip forward/back by 30 seconds, etc.

I daily carry both an iPhone X and an Android (currently a Note 8, shortly going back to Pixel 2 XL.) This is a conscious decision on my part.

Don't forget we have tons of iOS developers here. We ship some of the biggest iOS apps in the world. So this scenario makes no sense.

Sort of. I have two button presses for Spotify and three for Audible, it's hacky but it works for me. For skipping back and forth I just use the buttons on my headphones or my car bluetooth adapter.

Apart from that half of the time you're going to be giving data to the exact same companies whichever OS you use.

So I ordered one of those fit bip things from gearbest on the 23rd. Despite the product page saying it takes on average 3 days to go from paid to processing, I still haven't heard anything nearly 4 weeks later. My support ticket yesterday got an absolutely useless reply telling me the item was in stock(?!) and when I pointed out that this didn't answer my query (why am I still waiting after over 3 weeks and when can I expect them to ship it) they replied with the same comment basically re-worded. So I've cancelled the order and still don't have a fitness watch. :(

I'm still loving the Bip, BTW. I've charged it once since I got it. I've found a pretty sweet custom watchface that shows everything I need to know at a glance. Great bit of kit.

That's unfortunate, I've always had good luck with Banggood and Gearbest.

Yeah I think if they actually bothered to sell them over here they would be onto a winner. Same with their phones though really.
