Probably not a massive surprise given that:

Quote:
Ben Silverman...asked Greg Daniels to create a spin-off of The Office. Daniels co-created Parks and Recreation with Michael Schur, who had been a writer on The Office. The two spent months considering ideas for the new series and debating whether to make it a stand-alone rather than a spin-off.

If you’re in a group of people where’s there a divide of opinion or peer difference, a bully or someone playing for power or dominance will often single out a single person with an opposing opinion to make a point of that one person having a different opinion from the rest of the group. Person X has a different opinion ion from the rest of ‘us’. They’ll often phrase it so that that one person seems to be different from the entire rest of the group, whether that’s true or not. Often they’ll do this to one of the people they see as weakest in a group. By singling one person out as an ‘US versus that one person’ in the phrasing it often stops those others who also have the opposing view from saying so as humans naturally want to have the ‘right’ view. It happens loads in playgrounds whether it’s brand of trainers, characters on backpacks, anything. Even more in offices and meetings. Relationships, friendships, whatever. So, whether you think you are or not, you are making a point and singling me out. Whether you see it as bullying or simply bolstering the validity of your opinion by making it out to be the popular opinion against what you paint as the weaker, lone voice, it has the same effect.

SHUT UP JERRY

(Not being mean to you Meems - it's just that what you have described perfectly fits the group's behaviour towards Jerry in Parks and Rec)

We need a new 20-min episode comedy show now we've finished S4 of B99. Any suggestions? Preferably on Netflix or Prime Video.

I imagine most people have seen a lot of this already, but Amazon added all nine seasons of Scrubs today. I might have to give it a watch myself as I've only seen a handful of episodes really.

Scrubs is great - Dr Cox is a legend.

Do yourself a favour and stop at the end of season 7, though.

Amazon has bought the rights from the Tolkien estate to do a TV show, rumor is they paid $250 million for the rights and are sinking another $750 million into 6 seasons of the show.

They are going to do a Conan the Barbarian show as well.

By all accounts, they are not seeing the success with internally scripted shows as Netflix has, so are buying in established stories to try and get their subscription figures up.

I'm sure that anyone spending a billion pounds must know what they're doing but I can't help wondering if there's really going to be the appetite for a more twee version of Game Of Thrones.

I was thinking that the main stories have been done in the films, so you have to wonder what the show will be about over a possible 6 seasons.

The article I read said the Amazon has sunk $4.5 billion into their TV business already and were frustrated that they haven't see the results they expected for the investment.

A billion is peanuts to Amazon so no guarantee they won't make a mess of this, still, with over $100 million a season budget, you have to hope it will be good.

Looks like there will be a lot of new shows with big budgets coming out in the next few years, Amazon, HBO, Dinsey, Netflix, and Apple are all competing for subscribers and are going to use their deep pockets to make shows to get them.

Anyone has seen "Electric Dreams"?

First episode was ok, but the themes that were explored were much more deeply done in other PKD novels.

The 2nd and 3rd were much more to my liking. Very eager to watch the rest, even though the intro looks like something out of a geocities webpage from the 90s.

Yeah, it's hit and miss, like most anthologies, but certainly worth a watch. They got some great actors in there.

I think Bryan Cranston is a PKD fan, since he said the reason he was in the Total Recall remake wad because it was going to be a more faithful adaptation (didn't work out that way though).

That's funny because for me the original Total Recall feels the most authentic PKD adaptation, even more than a "A Scanner Darkly" which was almost a copy of the book.

Seen fourth and fifth episodes.

The 4th (the one with steve buscemi) was by far the weakest. Very confusing tone and not very focused. But it was worth it for the sexy synth lady.

5th (the one with Anna Paquin) was pretty cool, although these themes are probably too cliched now in a post Black Mirror world, but PKD invented them, so it's ok.

I think reading these comments must have raised my expectations a bit too high. It was alright until after they did the main mission and then there were some stupid filler episodes and now I can't see us bothering with any more.
