I sat next to Charlie Hunnam for five hours on a train, once. He wrote with a silver gel pen, which was weird.

I had an awful nosebleed. He was really nice. Very sweet and quite gentle. He was on TV at the time, but before he went to the US. I think it was shortly after (or maybe during) the airing of Queer As Folk.

D'oh! Which I mention because I think he's in that Sons Of Anarchy thing, but looks different now.

Get that theme tune stuck in my head again and we'll fall out.

I honestly don't know how he finds the time to do all that and be in Take That as The Little One From Take That. His work ethic is strong.

OK so I watched S03E01 last night and it was a good episode, however, I do wonder if the show overall is starting to head in TWD territory in my perception of it. Like, the bone-headedness of the protagonists is really starting to grate a bit.

I will spoiler this as it's more specific than my previous ten broad points.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
So we kick off Season 3 with Jax and the 'club' having managed, between them, to have ACTUALLY HAD HIS BABY STOLEN. Literally fucking stolen. This is from an MC (lingo!) that's armed to the fucking teeth and apparently really bad ass.

They left the baby with 'Half Sack' (an MC 'Prospect' so not yet a full member), and a nice nurse called Tara. They did not prove to be a match for a psychopathic IRA murderer/bomber/gun runner, who had just had his own son killed. (Albeit not by the MC.)

The rest of the club were busy chasing MAIN BADDY Zobelle who had pretty much run rings round them for the entire season. However they finally had him cornered in an ice cream shop and were just waiting for the schoolchildren to get back in their school bus so they could kill him, unfortunately a phone call from from the baby sitters alerts them that all is not well and even though it'd take an extra 10 seconds to kill Zobelle, they all decide to leave immediately. (Which fails anyway because Half-Sack gets killed, Tara gets tied up, and the baby gets stolen.)

So here we are at the start of Season 3, wondering if maybe there'll be time for some quiet reflection and a think about what they want to do with their lives.

Nope. Gemma is now in hiding after being framed for two murders, she's safe in an MC-friendly motel out of town, and with a multi-state APB out and a reward on her head, you'd presume she wouldn't be in a hurry to leave the protective custody of some MC members, but instead she keeps trying to escape, including stabbing someone who catches her trying to steal his car. Way to lie low, Gemma!

The rest of the MC are getting ready for Half-Sack's funeral, and Clay (head MC dude) tells Jax that he's going to have to start looking a bit more killy-happy soon as the GUYS are wondering what's happening to him.

Lo and behold! After the funeral they're all stood in the church grounds having a sad chat about Half-Sack and a van full of drive-by shooters opens fire on the MC! As fire is returned (and Hale, the upright copper dude gets killed, more collateral damage from the IDIOT MC BRIGADE'S CAVALCADE OF BRAIN-FAILURE DIP-SHITTERY), one of the drive-by shooters falls from the van into the road, where he is quickly put under arrest by police.

Hooray! They have a perpetrator, they can find out who the shooters are, which is good as all the rest of them escaped.

But no! Jax is CONSUMED BY RAGE. And with Clay's motivational speech about having to kill some shit ringing in his ears, he takes it upon himself to kill the shooter by repeatedly bashing his head into the road. Which erm, the three arresting, armed, cops allow him to do because of reasons.

Well done Jax, you just killed the only perpetrator, all the others escaped!

Each episode stacks up with chains of events like this, and they just seem to end up in worse and worse situations.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Oh yes the baby is in Ireland now. Karen Matthews could have done a better fucking job.

This reminds me. I've been watching a bit of the Archer - Dreamland season on Netflix. I can generally take or leave Archer, but it's good to have on in the background. However, with Dreamland, I end up turning it off after an episode as it's just terrible.

So much white trainer.

I think I've said this before, but it ended up feeling like a bad game of GTA, with each episode becoming little more than some fetch quest for Some Dude who Jaxx needs to curry favour with.

Still entertaining nonsense though, with some excellently nasty characters:

Nazi Rollins
Vengeful Tig
Mad FBI Lady
Cannibalistic Inmate (played by Kurt Sutter)
RoboCop BentCop

And of course Charlie Utter (can only remember his Deadwood name), who was excellently nice.

This is my issue with it, I get maybe 1-2 hours per day tops where I can watch telly/films, and my Netflix watchlist alone is already embarrassingly long.

It may well get to the point where 'entertaining trash' doesn't maintain its position as being worthy of taking up my screentime allocation on a regular basis. (I have a pretty high threshold for not ditching something, for example TWD which I stuck with for quite a long time after it'd largely turned to shit, but a selection process has to come into play at some point.)

Yeah, we gave it up. Similarly the Archer Vice season was really a struggle, so we were less inclined to carry on this time.

I thought Dreamland has been the best one for a long while.

I do wish they could be spys again, though.

:this: (well, 'spies' anyway :) )

I wouldn't have minded if it was just an episode or two, but I can't be doing with a whole series of it. At least it made me look for other animation stuff on Netflix though, so I've rattled through Bojack Horseman and F is for Family.

Watched seven episodes of it over the weekend. I liked the Inception episode, but I've not found any of them overly funny as yet. I'll still persist though.

Netflix or amazon has a 6 part documentary following teams at Le Mans. Each episode is 26 minutes long. It is shot well, and very interesting.

Really enjoyed GLOW, but I'm not sure whether I want a second season or not. It worked so well as a self contained story with a clear end point that it might spoil that by carrying on, but on the other hand some of the characters are just superb and more Alison Brie is never a bad thing.

Have you watched any Pacific Heat? I've only watched the first episode, but it comes across as an Australia rip-off of Archer. Some funny bits, but the mocking of Chinese accents was rather cringeworthy.

Suits S7 started last night, the UK channel that were showing it dropped it after S6 but Netflix appear to have picked it up

We enjoy it but the plot is getting stupid

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
During S6 we saw Mike go to jail for after we got caught out as a fake lawyer, then at the end he gets into the bar! No mention of issues with the many cases he worked on before getting caught that would get thrown out or challenged.

Then first episode of S7 Harvey makes Donna a legal secretary, into a senior partner of the firm! She also comes up with $500,000 that I can only guess she got from a Amazon Echo type device she "invented" with the company IT guy in S6

The series takes place in an alternate timeline, where the southern states have successfully seceded from the Union, giving rise to a nation in which slavery remains legal and has evolved into a modern institution. The story follows a broad swath of characters on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Demilitarized Zone – freedom fighters, slave hunters, politicians, abolitionists, journalists, the executives of a slave-holding conglomerate and the families of people in their thrall.”

Hmm.. makes a change from Nazis I guess, and there's probably a load of old statues lying around now that they could use for set dressing.

I read a novel set in a similar universe last year, 'Underground Airlines' by Ben Winters about a slave-catcher that was ok(ish) but not as good as Robert Harris's 'Fatherland'.

Reminds me: haven't been out in blue this year; probably should at some point, to at least keep things fresh and the moths away, but life and stuff.

This reminds me. I've been watching a bit of the Archer - Dreamland season on Netflix. I can generally take or leave Archer, but it's good to have on in the background. However, with Dreamland, I end up turning it off after an episode as it's just terrible.

I thought Dreamland has been the best one for a long while.

I do wish they could be spys again, though.

Have you watched any Pacific Heat? I've only watched the first episode, but it comes across as an Australia rip-off of Archer. Some funny bits, but the mocking of Chinese accents was rather cringeworthy.

Seems like every episode of this is virtually the same.

I'm enjoying Killjoys at the moment. First series is on Netflix. It's very low budget sci-fi but quite creatively done and it's never anything other than entertaining.

If you want slightly bonkers, I understand that Lexx is up on either Amazon or Netflix. Very surreal, quite sexy sci-fi series that ran from '99-02. The first series was good IIRC helped by the really very sexy Eva Habermann playing the character Xev
