I don't know, but as far as I know the servers aren't affected. It seems to be some unpatched desktops.

This'll be when we find out how good their backup procedures are.
Ransomware really makes me nervous.

Seems to be affecting desktops for the most part so there really shouldn't be any loss of data. But it's massively disruptive.

LOL

Wtf's that supposed to mean?

So ransomware usually affects anything the user has access rights to - so shared drives etc. I'd be surprised (but impressed) if the NHS was better than the majority of orgs where users have write privileges over a lot more stuff than they should.

I'll hopefully find out more today but the last I heard they hadn't seen any of that. Whether the actual encryption occurs fairly slowly (I know it takes a good while to encrypt a laptop when you actually want to do it) and begins on the local drives before encrypting network shares I don't know but there wasn't a lot of time between when the first instances were seen and all the windows servers being shut down. But I suppose given that they shut the servers down they still might not even know exactly what happened.

I've had a weird time lately with lots of work related stress and also quite a bit of health trouble. When I'm not doing well I go (even more) quiet

But now a lot is resolved:
I have left Capgemini after 18 years, they didn't care, not a single word or handshake on the way out. Still I am vary glad that's done.
I have gained a permanent position at my favourite client so yay!
I'm taking a fuckload of meds, but my lungs are finally behaving better
also some other stuff
so hi again!

Well I've been working for an old boss for about six weeks now. He set up his own Dynamics CRM consultancy business. It's only about five months old and there's just him, me and a developer guy in Bangladesh, so it's all a bit of a risk joining up, as I need to help bring in new business and also re-train myself on CRM so I do the tech support for it, but it came at a good time for me as it meant I didn't have to go out doing interviews. Plus I get to work from home as well for the most part.

Worse case scenario, it comes to nothing and I have to go job hunting again, but with a bit of luck, it'll work out. :)

A few friends came round last night to play some games and eat some pizza. We dug out my old PSone memory cards looking for a Tekken 2 save file andwWhile we were rooting through, I found my old Music compositions for the game of the same name.

It turns out that I’m quite the budding DJ!

I also had tons of time on my hands too as I actually made videos for some of the tunes.

I’m going to try and get them off the PSone somehow to upload to YouTube. I’ve got at least 3 watchers lined up that’ll love them I’m sure!

If you can get work to stump for flights on Singapore Airlines (which is generally the nicest way to fly out there), then sign up for Kris Flyer. There should be a Krisflyer Amex you can get out there which gives you a decent amount of airmiles too. The benefit of this is that Singapore Airlines can do your long haul to the UK as well as the local flights in SE Asia, so you're not splitting your air miles across different schemes. Used to be the case, anyway.

That's basically standard for a first offence of that type. So you're going to have to try to overhaul sentencing guidelines.

As always, see The Secret Barrister for details.

Might be worth looking at Star Alliance membership - Singapore are a member and it's one of the biggest clubs for miles.

Whilst he does give a fair bit of context at no point does he say or imply "that's pretty standard for stabbing someone for the first time".

The suspended sentence part is absolutely standard for the type of offence she committed, even if it the offence was major for that type. If there was little actual harm caused then it'd be hard to not give one.

I think the only contentious part is the deferred sentencing. Hard to glean the exact details of the case, but it seems reasonable enough to me.
