Its supposed to clear at lot of the bloat you get on the default one. Also allows some things like loading retroarch files from micro SD

This guy covers it a bit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmbctIirJ0I&t=509s

Also he recommends this guy https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe8AMU ... hdCuZJsTYQ

checked the films, so basically it improves saturn emulation.. and i love the virtue racing version he is showing.. will test on how floaty the bloat ware is when i get it later today and then decide i guess.. depends a bit how filled it is i guess, according to one unboxing video's it contains already lots stuff set up (like mama , sees etc...) including roms so that might make me lazy

Great nerdy article about the 'secret' colours of the Commodore 64.

Day 1..
arrived at1745.. had uae4droid running at 1830... problem was that googleplay store didn't seem to run at first.. but it had asked my other android device (my work phone which i just switched off since it was friday evening.. to confirm i wanted to use my google account...) setup went easily and was playing swos in the train a few minutes later.

* snes support excellent and set up (including roms)
* n64 crashed a bit firs time, but then excellent.. (not sure i'm happy with the control setup.. 10 games included
* ps1 , raiden was included, put an iso (cue format) on it, but it didn't;t recognize it.. more study needed
* downloaded md.emu... worked fine it seemed...
* arcade: quite a few neo geo games included, they are really beautiful..

screen is great, controls are made well..(although the glinstering is allready of the left analogue..

might replace the interface, though, saw some tv-launcher people liked and added images to.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... o.tv&hl=en

amiga emulating most of the time great, some weird glitches though

So.. a week in..

* The build in snes - emulator ceased to function
* replaced there launcher with this (see image), quite pleased
* impressed by the DC emulation (WWE is included)
* psp works like a charm too...
* built in ps emulator didn't find all games, (but they did open via the file explorer), so replaced that too
* mame 4 droid: horrible interface, but works perfectly
* took some time to find a good ds emulator, but Drastic is great and full speed
* saturn works nice, frameskip needed though
* i just took the sd card out of my ds-flashcard, so now lots of games to play extra
* retroarch does work for 32x at least... interface is kind of horrible on god
* n64 works ok, for some reason pokemon snap (which was included, so kind of weird), but e.g. ridge racer 64 is amazingly fast..
* so current systems emulated: snes, md, 32x, gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advance, ds, psp, psx , dreamcast, arcade, n64, amiga 1200, saturn.. , neogeo..

Have you only just heard about Arcade Club, Grim... ? It's been mentioned a fair few times on here before I imagine - I've been twice.

It's a great place. The only thing that bothers me about the place is that, because every game is free play, there's none of the "Ah shit, I've got to make this one count because this is my last 10p" type feeling.

I am totally going there next time I'm over visiting my family, my brother lives a couple of miles down the road from it, my dad's place is one stop on the Metrolink away.

A few of the big driving games like Outrun 2SP or the sit down Star Wars cab might have one or two people stood by, but there's no long queues and there's enough choice that you can always find something else good to play then come back.

Yep, being on free-play does take away a little of the buzz, but it's still superb fun.

WHEN DID YOU BEAT ME AT OUTRUN?

I'm very good at forgetting my defeats.

I do remember the epic competitions we had on OutRun2 on the original XBox back in the day.

ARCADE REPORT.

MINUS ONE PINBALL - The Lord Of The Rings pinball has gone :(

PLUS ONE VIDEO GAME - Sega Manx TT Superbike, two-player sitdown edition! According to the copyright message in the demo mode this game is 22 years old, SEGA 1995.

Of course we had to have a go. Mrs Hearthly got THRASHED, if the race had gone on much longer I'd have lapped her.

It's in perfect working order too. Splendid stuff.

She's the same age as me, 43.

It was videogames that kind of brought us together in the first place, playing Streets Of Rage into the small hours of the morning in our shit student house in Manchester, whilst my girlfriend of the time was out cheating on me with her fiancé.

So there we were, with me thinking 'She's well fit and my current relationship is a disaster zone, but I'm going to look like a twat if I make a move on her when I've got a girlfriend, and I don't think she likes me like that anyway.'

As I found out later, Mrs Hearthly was there thinking, 'I really like him but he's already got a girlfriend and I don't think he'd go for me anyway, so I won't do anything'.

As such mutual desire and frustration were played out with some serious co-op beatdowns on the mean Streets of Rage.

I watched this last night on Google Play and thought it was good but not excellent. Certainly not as good as the likes of Man Vs Snake or King Of Kong.

The main issue I think was the lack of real protagonists. Ultimately there's this arcade and the dude who runs it gets old and retires and some people miss the arcade and then it gets reopened but it's not the same. There are a few 'characters' who are interesting enough but I never found it particularly compelling.

Also, it suffered from a lack of archive footage, so like, they're talking about 1981/1982 whilst showing footage where a Space Harrier is clearly visible.

Don't know it anyone has played the version of Outrun on the 3DS but that emulates the knocking sounds the steering wheel made when it went full lock either side. Very clever.

I remember "playing" outrun at an arcade.

This did consist of a stand up cabinet with a pedal on the floor and a steering wheel where the joystick should be.

Unfortunately, I'd have been about 6 or so, so didn't have the required height to use both controls effectively. It was shit.

I'm not sure if the more famous sit-down machine would've been any better, mind.

I remember playing the upright version of Crazy Taxi in the arcade. It looked like this one -

but without any seat, so trying to quickly switch from brakes and accelerator was unnecessarily difficult.

There's an arcade game that I saw only once when I was on holiday in Wales as a kid, but I can't remember much about it so I'm hoping someone can help me track it down.

It was a left to right platformer where you played the role of a kid. The kid may have been in a nightie or over sized wizards outfit. This could have been purple or blue and I think he had a wand to fire at the enemies. One of the levels (possibly the first?) was a type of dream sequence and I seem to remember you sitting on a bed or perhaps having a bed as a bad guy.

I seem to remember one credit lasting ages and it was very colourful and bright and modern looking (for the time, possibly late 80's/early 90's?).

Any ideas?

Bingo! It's not exactly as I remember it but yep, this is the game! Good work Devliman.

Why didn't I come here sooner? I've only been thinking about that for about 20 years.

Actually, I didn't have a clue. I just tried a variety of google searches using stuff like '80s arcade platformer wizard' etc. till I found something that might be a match :)

Quite dry in places but an interesting GDC talk about history of games

Quote:
In this 2017 talk, game historian Laine Nooney demystifies how historians turn everyday artifacts and documents into compelling narratives, share behind-the-scenes stories and images from her own hunt for game history, and empower industry professionals with the knowledge to begin their own practice of self-preservation.

Yeah, it’s a great game. I forgot how hard it is though!

This version has had the keyboard controls mapped to different buttons on the CD32 pad and so far, it hasn’t crashed. I remember the version I had on my Amiga used to crash every time you hovered over a certain item in your inventory. I’m yet to see that item so it’ll be interesting to see if they’ve patched it.
