Shows in both iOS and Android App Stores for me. I'm resisting installing it for now though.

Installed it and uninstalled it. Not really my thing. As I work from home these days, I don't exactly go anywhere so I wouldn't imagine I'd get much out of it anyway. Although it was odd to see that the pub this house is next to counted as a pokestop.. well, its clock anyway.

Couple of them tried and couldn't do it, so unless there is a knack to it, I don't know (I'm not playing it)

I've installed it, caught two Pokemon without leaving my sofa, can't see it taking over my life, not really bothered at the moment. At the moment...

Are you talking dodgy Chinese Android phone cheap, or proper mainstream phone cheap?

You can get a Motorola Moto G Gen3 for about £135, which is a capable smartphone with a decent screen.

The G4 is incoming I believe but expected to cost around £170.

Neither of those are 'cheap' if you're just after playing a single game, admittedly.

Your other option is to go second-hand I suppose.

The Moto G 3rd Gen is indeed a capable smartphone (I got the one with double the RAM from Amazon and it's serving me rather well) but it doesn't have the gyroscope needed for the AR functionality in the game.

Wow, I did not know that. The Moto G V2 had one so that's a bit of a step backwards.

I wonder what the cheapest smartphone is that supports all the features required by this game then.

Fortunately we have THE INTERNETS.....

http://www.pcmag.com/news/346032/these- ... ng-pokemon

That says it's the Motorola Moto G4, which costs £160. (They also suggest going down the route of getting a capable second-hand phone.)

wandered back from the pub last night about 11. two lads were at a gym in the church.

Most of the pubs in town have pokestops. I can get pokeballs and a pint

Go into items in your backpack, and click on the potion. It will show any pokemon that need healing, click on them to use a potion.

I got from Level 1 to Level 5 on my usual walk back to the office from where I park my car down the other end of the prom. Collected many Pokemons and tapped lots of Pokestops.

My chum hit Level 5 a bit before me so was able to have a crack at a gym and got absolutely destroyed. (Two blokes in their 40s tapping away excitedly at their phones, chasing after Pokemons like giggly children.... It's quite the look.)

The number of other people playing the game was amazing, I'm not talking a handful, I'm talking 20-25 people at least during the course of the walk, including a group of three guys who were battling furiously over a gym.

Not entirely sure how much of an actual game is in there at this point, but it was very entertaining.

It's not going to be long before someone gets run over and killed, this is a game that actively encourages you to rush across busy roads whilst concentrating on something that isn't the road.

EDIT - Local Pokemon Facebook group, I've joined it, natch. https://www.facebook.com/groups/pokemongoiom/

It's nonsense. He had decided to take a couple of months out to go travelling, picked up Pokemon go and thought he'd get in the news and play Pokemon whilst he was travelling. Which is fine, but not newsworthy.

I think there will be an inevitable 'man gets stabbed defending Ookemkn gym contested by warring Pokemon factions' story in the next week.

I have no idea about what anyone is talking about here, do not know how the game works and have not seen any screenshots of it in action. However I am greatly enjoying imaging the strange parallel-universe activity in my head through your posts here, an activity that may even surpass actually buying and playing the game myself.

It is free.

Doctor Who has taught me that whenever there is an insanely popular 'app' that has people doing silly things and is being released for free, it is probably part of a sinister alien invasion plot.

Funnily enough the aliens never have to run tech-support on their apps in order to keep the invasion-wheels running smoothing.

"Hello, is this Cybus Industries?"

"SPEAK."

"It's my Picnic-Planning App. I've planned the picnic and notified my friends but then some swirly images appeared and now I'm twitching uncontrollably down the left size of my body, and have the strangest compulsion to attempt to graft scrap metal and kitchen appliances to my arm."

"CONFIRM APP IS PARTIALLY WORKING."

"Well the picnic went alright, though all my friends had turned up in fancy dress as metal monsters."

"POSITIVE AFFIRMATION."

"But I feel funny and what do I do about my electronic-whisk arm?"

"HAVE YOU TRIED TURNING YOURSELF OFF?"

"And on again?"

"NO. OFF."

I installed this last night. Gave it a brief go in the living room, and after a while managed to figure out that I was supposed to flick this weird red and white ball thing at the blue thing that was sat on the table in front of me. The red and white ball thing threw out some flashy lights, then the blue thing disappeared and the red and white ball thing span around a bit.

And then it just kept spinning around a bit. And a bit more. I left it for 2 minutes and then assumed that something had crashed somewhere, quit out and promptly uninstalled it.

That's my Pokémon Go story, by Gareth, aged 32.

One thing that became clear is that whilst it works out when you're moving too fast to be walking (so the distance required to hatch your incubated eggs doesn't decrease when you're in a car, for example), it doesn't stop you snagging Pokestops and capturing Pokemon if you're quick enough.

So on the drive from the centre of Douglas to the end of the prom, my chum was gleefully snagging sackfuls of goodies whilst I was lamenting that I wasn't a free fucking Pokemon taxi supplied for his benefit.

Still, a decent chunk of his roster was badly injured in his failed attempt to take over the gym, so that was amusing.

I think that's motion sensing and gait analysis, not speed.

Got to Level 6 on my walk back down the prom after work, the levelling slows down quite dramatically after Level 5.

The number of people playing the game is beyond ridiculous, I've really never known the likes of it before, saw loads of folks Pokemoning away.

When I got near to my car I noticed a rustling of leaves out on the beach on the map, so rather than, y'know, walk to my car and drive home, I instead crossed the prom and walked out onto the beach to investigate the rustling, hoping to find an interesting Pokemon, alas when I got to the spot there was nothing there.

I've already hit one pretty clear paywall mechanic, that of incubating the eggs. You only get one 'infinite use' incubator to start with, and hatching an egg requires walking between 2km and 5km (certainly at the stage of the game I'm at) with the egg in the incubator (one incubator can hold one egg), as it stands at the moment I've managed to hatch one egg, I have two* incubating, and a stockpile of eight with nowhere to incubate them.

I had a look in the shop and the price of Pokecoins seemed sort of semi-reasonable, I think it worked out to about a quid for a three-use incubator for example, I'd give you an exact figure but the servers appear to be on their arses at the moment and the shop won't even load now.

My feeling is that if you do a decent chunk of walking you'll get most if not all of your bread and butter items from Pokestops, such as Pokeballs and potions and stuff, but there's definitely a clear nudge towards the shop already just for getting the eggs incubated. Not least because you can have multiple eggs incubating simultaneously so walking contributes to all of them at once.

I suspect I'll be spending some cash on this game....

* When I hit Level 6 it gave me another incubator but it's only good for three eggs.

Set your expectations on the eggs. They aren't things you do soon, they're stuff that happens in the background.
