I forgot to mention why I don't like 9.

I don't like 9 because I don't like how the character customisation works.

In 9 you give your characters spells by equipping them with weapons or armor (?) that possesses the skill. While the character has the weapon equipped, the skill is available. To make the skill stick after you remove the weapon, you have to achieve so many AP while using it.

I didn't like that. It was the choice between wielding slightly cacker weapons while going through the game normally, or giving everybody a go at whatever Cure-packing weapons I had and wandering about on the spot until they'd all learned the skill.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose RAPTURE. Etc.

I also didn't like a lot of the music or characters.
I started to dislike FF from 10 onwards when they ditched the cartoony style. Loved 7 and 9, but have yet to try the DS remakes of 5 or 4.
The DS remake of FF 3 is unbelieveably difficult. I can't fathom it at all.
FF7 is awesome. Anyone who thinks otherwise obviously has mental issues. The twats.

9 was great, I enjoyed 8, but the story was a bit rubbish, 10 was okay, but I missed the overworld and the voice acting wasn't that great. Oh and towards the end there were a few battles that you needed to know about beforehand, like the one where the boss turns you into zombies, but you needed to remain zombies to survive its Ultimate Death Attack. So, if you have 'anti-zombie' equipment on all your characters, theres no way you could possibly win.
I reiterate the fact I love FFV11 as there has been some pretty heavy shit slinging on here about it being crap. It is an amazing game and the first FF I played! It's a sinister game aswell, which I love! I don't like games with mega happy endings and love that make my teeth ache because they are so sweet.

I am currently trying to get the older one's, but the problem is I'm so used to the graphics being fantastically awesome now and I feel I may be upset by the earlier ones :( but I'll still get them as FF is the best, no question about it.

FFV111 was my favourite of all time, the graphics had moved on from FFV11 and the characters were amazing. That was the hardest one for me to complete, The GF's were great! Carbuncle :luv:

FFV1111 I didn't like very much. Quite easy to play, the way you could use abilities and the slots they had was weird and I didn't get on with that. The characters were pretty much unappealing for me too, and it pains me to say that

FFX Brilliant for the graphics yet again. Storyline was good, sinister in ways. A good game that cleaned my pallate after it's predecessor didn't deliver the goods. The characters were great!! Auron was freaking amazing and so was Rikku (which is why I write R/A fics ^.^ hehe) the main character was a bit of a twit, but he grew on you. Lulu's boobs were amazing and probably used half the budget to create. Wakka was a dick. Kimhari was...interesting. Aeons were pretty cool.
Oh, also there was the bad guy called 'Seymour' which sold it to me instantly, hehe.

FFX2 Well, what can I say? It upset me as much as FFV1111 did. It was just a game to turf out, very very easy to play. Some bits were good, some bits were bloody awful. Garments grid was great, I loved the fact that they could change costumes and stuff and I loved the fact Rikku was in it-that was it. I mean, whats next? A story about Wakka? NOOO!!

FFX11 YOWZA! We have a game that is different from the others and also made me happy after FFX2 crushed my RPG loving soul. The random battles now do not exist! You can choose them because you can see your opponent now, you can gauge how powerful they are and plan ahead for the type of enemy they are...or simply turn all Gambits off and sneaky sneak past and run like fuck! Espers are great, I love the fact you have to obtain them by seeking them out rather than just getting them at a stage in the game. Characters are great, my favourite so far is Fran, then Basch. The moogles are really really cute! So different from the others in previous games, go out and buy it if you haven't already :)

I liked DOC aswell because Vincents great! :droool: A lot of people didn't, which is understandable as it was mainly cut scenes and not much game play and was very easy to complete, a day and a half for me I think it was?

I have to get some sort of console when my money problems are sorted because FFX111 looks amazing!

Really sorry about the essay-like post there but I am sat in bed feeling poorly and so have time to write a 'review' type thing on FF games

There's your problem, there. :nerd:
The whole "first = only good" JRPG things holds true for me as well. I did get Fibnal Fantasy 8 in a massive box with... some stuff in it, though I can't remember what. It had all the p[roblems of the predecessor, with graphics I found less charming and a changed magic and modifications system - bad news given I'd only just got my herad round FFVII's at that point. VIIII didn't go very far for me, and savwe for a ahalf-hearted try of Baldur's Gate I didn't RPG properly until KotOR, which is how RPGs should be on a computer.

No, Football Manager is how an RPG should be on a computer, now that I think about it.

Very mini lulu boobage
(Lulu's the one in the middle)
Cunningly posed in front of a whole pile of games better than FF7.
I'll tell you what, this thread is long overdue for a

*RANDOM BATTLE*

Shut up and take my gil.
Cool! FF7 was the only Final Fantasy I played and I loved it. Will happily buy this.
I am slightly interested, but having played it to death when it came out, I'm not sure exactly why I should buy/play it again.
I'm nervous that I won't have the time. Because I'll make time, and I have other things I should be doing. Like working and sleeping.

Although as work has only just started, it's not going to be out for ages.
Hrmn. I'm not convinced how FFVII will work as a modern, photorealistic FF game in comparison to the ultra cartoony original. The game has an awful lot of silliness about it. I think they'll have to make a lot of changes - which is good, because new game.
Why would they have to make changes?

Watching Cloud cross-dress in HD will be something to behold.
They had better let you change the character names, or I'm out.
If they have voice actors, I guess they won't.

There's a lot of dialogue there, though.

Because there's loads of bits in the game, that one included, that are really silly. Silly works in a cartoon context, but I'm a lot more dubious about it working in a non-cartoon context.
I think it will work better.

If they change too much (or anything at all) the Internet will go fucking mental.
Play it FIRST on PS4...

So does that mean it will move to other platforms after maybe?
I love the fact that younger me described why this game is crap with so much more arrogance than i though i was ever capable of. I wish i could summon younger me every time i'm annoyed with someone/something.
Younger you was wrong, of course ;)
This announcement made me rebuy FF7 & 8 on steam. That music at the end of the trailer. Man, goosebumps.

Younger you was indeed firmly in the camp of the wrongheaded loons, with Mr Chris and Dudley. That should tell you all you need to know.
I played 4 hours of FF7 yesterday. I've just got out of Midgar and now I can't remember what to do. Also I read a walkthrough that said I could have stolen two high power items from specific enemies, except I didn't and I'm now sad.
You head northeast to Kalm.
Then you sit for two hours tapping the button while it recaps the whole thing so far.
Still, at least you can tap the button rather than being forced to sit and listen, right?

When I did a speed run tapping through the dialogue made my thumbs really hurt.
Despite having completed the game more than once I remain unclear what the deal with Cloud, Sephiroth and Jenova's lineage actually is. Jenova is an ancient but not really, Cloud and Sephiroth were made from Jenova, sort of, somehow. Cloud wasn't really in Solider, he was a grunt. Something something.

I need to read more wiki pages.
Also: A translation that wasn't rushed out the door
I am back from reading some Wiki pages. The subtlety of the story definitely isn't conveyed in the game, from what I remember.

That's been fixed quite recently.

Look at the "journo's" losing their shit.

(I'd have been exactly the same, to be fair)
iOS FF7 is a-comin' - and you can turn off the random battles.

Woohoo!!!!

I'm having that, yay!
I'm going to finally play this on the Vita so I can have an opinion.
Neither my phone or iPad mini are new enough to support it according to The Verge. 5s and above or iPad mini 2 and above.

Sad face.
I feel ridiculous putting plot twists and shit into spoiler tags for a game this old, but...

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I remember going mental for this game back in 97 or whenever, and looking on the web to help unlock all the mental shit. I recall reading that the main lass that dies was actually supposed to come back to life at some point, and that there's actually a space left for her in several scenes, but they ran out of time or money or something and so cut that bit out of the game/story.

Was that all a load of bollocks? The web was a lot less reliable back then.
Nah, its bollocks.

according to the guy wot wrote it (Tetsuya Nomura), Aeris was always supposed to die when she did. There is place holder dialogue for her in certain places later in the game but that was due to technical issues, ie earlier in development she could accidentally show up as if she's in the active party, and the game would hang, as the game would look for dialogue for her. Its a debugging thingy, basically. People tried putting Aeris back in the game with Game Sharks, and discovered this dialogue and thats where all the rumours came from
£12 is a bit too steep for me, considering it is £8 on PSN, and that version doesn't have silly virtual buttons.

Bit lazy of them not to make a touch native interface, considering it would work quite well if they tried.

Oh man!
It's free with FPSe ;)
I have *random battle* this!

You'd be doing it all wrong if you did, obv.
I have still never played FF7
