And as a consequence, we now have severe flooding warnings in Leatherhead.

I worry that Google thinks I am stupid as I search for things like "How do snakes get to islands".

Snakes can swim. I knew that - you should have asked me. Of course, many island snake species would have been there since the land was still joined to the mainland and evolved somewhat or remained close to if not the same as those on the mainland in accordance with both timescale and survival pressures.

But anyway, next time you can bypass Google and ask me instead, and then I will think you are stupid

Looking at the car park ticket you're about to leave on your dashboard and realising you entered an incorrect digit when you keyed in your registration number and that if you don't pay for another one you'll receive a charge from the pirates who run the parking company, demanding £100 for not purchasing a ticket.

SOME islands, yes, of course, but as above there were several methods given including population before land mass depression, etc, then there is also introduction (purposeful or otherwise) by humans.

But I have seen a snake swim to an island. For real. David Attenborough was there explaining it to me. Kind of hazy memory now, uh-hm!

1. I went to the shops yesterday to buy chocolate covered raisins, they didn't have any so I got some yogurt covered ones instead.
2. When I opened the raisins, it turned out they were nuts.
3. There are no not-raisins left.

I'm in a Travelodge in Glasgow. I'll probably be here every week until Foojitsu can find a permanent engineer to replace one who's just resigned, which could be a couple of months or longer.

Travelodge offer 30 mins free wifi per 24 hours, or you can pay £3 per day for 24 hour access. Foojitsu won't pay for wifi as we use iPass on our laptops, which allows us free wifi access in many places that charge for wifi. This used to work perfectly well when I joined the company in 2013, then Travelodge decided not to allow iPass access for a while, and then they started again. But now I have to re-enable iPass every 30 mins because Travelodge somehow manages disconnect it every 30 mins.

I could pay for uninterrupted wifi, but I'm on an economy drive, so I'm putting up with fiddling with iPass every 30 mins.

I spent far too long yesterday looking for a new kitchen radio that neither looked cheap and plasticy nor was expensive and, frankly, ugly. It's just a speaker, a display, and some controls but it seems this is sufficient to defeat modern designers.

Eventually settled on an expensive brush metal thing that was the least offensive to the eye but still feel I'm paying more than I should for something that's going to be on an average of twice a day. At least it has Bluetooth so I can listen to podcasts when cooking if there's nothing else on.

Not sure what you paid of if you can take it back but..

Have you thought about an Echo? They are £99 now, you can access pretty much any radio via Tunein. It will also support Bluetooth from your phone.

Only thing I'm not sure off is if you need a Prime account for this to work, I have one so never checked what you get with Echo using a standard Amazon account.

Don't buy an Echo right now - there's a new one coming out at the end of the month (and it's £10 cheaper).

I was aware of the video one, but just looked on Amazon and see there are 2 more models out

Echo plus which is the same size as the old echo, then one that's around half the size, £139 and £89 respectively. The plus is shipping with one Hue bulb as well.

There was an introductory sale on at one of the posh men's shops in the Exciting New Westgate, so I wandered in to look at shirts. Found a nice one my size so pulled it out of its tiny shelf. The plastic thing around the collar fell out so I picked it up off the floor. I started pulling out some other colours and styles before I realised that as well as ordering things neatly by collar size, they were also sorted by sleeve size.

I've not had a proper measure done for about ten years and didn't have the time to ask, so stuffed the shirts back into the tiny shelves as close to the original ordering, but struggled as they wouldn't just slide in. I left the plastic collar thing on an empty one and then shuffled out, hoping to avoid the glares of the staff who'd have to make it look neat again.

Back to M&S I think.

That IS amusing. You can definitely work that into your anecdote repertoire, Kern. It’ll be one of those stories that follow you around in your obituary in 80 years time (I reckon you’ll live to be about 115, because science).

I spent most of last night trying to open the door to my spare room. It's still jammed and no amount of removing the handle or trying to shimmy it with an old card was successful. My toolkit, of course, is in said room.

I'm basically becoming a modern day Mr Pooter. I might as well go all the way and install a boot scraper.

Go to Wickes, buy axe and new internal door. Use axe on stuck door. Enter room. Open door. Remove door. Replace door. Problem solved for £30.

I was after a less-destructive solution.

I did check Youtube, and the first 'how to open a jammed door' video that came up was initially promising, then the guy pulled out a sonic screwdriver and started waving it around the door.

Get a chisel. Or long flat bladed screwdriver. Homebsse is around the corner.

Is it the catch that's broken or the actual door stuck in the frame?

Based on where I can push and where I can't, it's probably the catch. I unscrewed the plate but couldn't turn or pull it using the slightly-too-thick pliers I had to hand. Shimming with a card from above proved tricky due to the doorframe getting in the way meaning I could never quite get it in.

It's just a frustration that I'll have to deal with this afternoon.

Does the door open into the spare room? If it does, you probably need to pry the door jamb away from the frame. If you have a chisel handy, or a large flat head screwdriver, tap it against the join between the frame and the jamb up and down it's length until a gap opens, then prise it away from the frame. you may not need to remove it entirely, but if you can get clearer access to the catch, you should be able to free it.
